Timbo Slice
Hey, I guess we might get a couple big surprises tonight. Including one obvious one that has been in the works for a while.
The Thread Killer
I’m not really all that plugged in to the latest news and rumors. Is the obvious surprise Kota Ibushi joining The Elite team for Blood & Guts? (I personally could not possibly care any less about a “Golden Lovers” reunion, but I can see how for a subsect of fans that would be a big deal.) Timbo Slice
That’s the one.
KawadaSmile
Would this be Kota's first match since falling out with NJPW?

Blehschmidt
Wow, that Jericho/Kommander match was ugly.
The Thread Killer
Just now, Blehschmidt said: Wow, that Jericho/Kommander match was ugly. Yeah Kommander would be a lot more impressive if his opponents didn’t have to endlessly stand around waiting for him to set them up…and if he actually squarely landed the move and hit his target. In other news, I admit I do love Don Callis’s theme music.

I figured this might finally be the match where Jericho breaks his neck on the moonsault.
KawadaSmile
Big Bill is kinda awesome and I do think his tag with Cage is by far the best one in this tournament.
Blehschmidt
Ruby going over there seems like a silly booking decision. Skye Blue is currently getting over pretty well and the tournament could have cemented her. Now this likely means that Willow is beating Athena and going on to face Ruby in the final. Athena has been building the RoH Womens Title with a streak of really good matches, so why put her in the tournament if she isn't going to the final? Skye beating Athena for the Trophy would have been a huge win for Skye, or Skye fighting her way to the end only to get destroyed by Athena to re-introduce Athena to the AEW audience would have been fine as well. Willow finally getting one up on the Outcasts will be fine I guess. Ruby winning does nothing for anybody. Just a missed opportunity IMO
The Thread Killer
Um…maybe Nick Wayne needs to go back to the indies for another few years because…holy shitty choreography, dude.

sek69
Starting off Dynamite now, opening match wasn't that bad IMO. Komander probably needs to spend more time in sleazy Mexican indies though.

sek69
That tag match is just brilliant, they had the crowd going apeshit without really doing anything.

Final should have been Skye/Athena, playing off their history with the excellent ROH women's title match a couple months ago and the fact that the last time (and only time this year) that Athena lost was a tag match against Skye on Elevation. Athena hasn't lost a singles match in AEW/roh other than vs Jade last year, so to have her only other loss be just thrown in the semi final is terrible. He's 18 years old. I didn't see the match, but he looked really smooth in clips. Of course it helps that Swerve was there as the veteran. What was wrong with the kid? sek69
I suspect Britt is going to cost Ruby the win in the finals anyway, and WIllow's the one on the AEW roster so I don't see much of an issue here tbh,
Perfectly Straightedge
I didn’t like that Kota announcement at all. I don’t get why the lights went out a for a video package to save Kenny from the dreaded neck in chair. Just seemed strange and lackluster. Usually for a big debut you sorta want the guy to be there. My thing is we are supposed to suspend reality when we watch wrestling but why didn’t the four guys just keep beating up Kenny while the video played. Like I know we have to throw logic out the window but come on now. Who turned off the lights as well? I did chuckle at the whole you got any last words “watch the screen bitch” lol Also where was Claudio and Wheeler? Why didn’t they show up as well on your go home episode to blood and guts and not have all the pieces are there. Just seemed weird to me. I don’t know I’m not really looking forward to blood and guts this year. I would rather see how they book this MJF/Cole against Sammy/Garcia match. Blehschmidt
The issue is Athena has quietly been having an amazing streak of great matches and hasn't lost, so her losing to Willow in a random semi-final just seems pointless.

"Child prodigies" rarely fare well against mature, experienced competitors in any field. 18 year-old world champions exist in...BMX? Snowboarding? Sonic the fucking Hedgehog? We've seen Nick Wayne a thousand times before, and usually better. Even if no-one admits it. I'm led to believe it's condescending to call him "Flippy Guy du Jour #612", so I'll go with: there's a Nick Wayne in every packet; there's not a Jay White in every packet. My only guess is that Athena needs an opponent for the PPV and this is a different way to get there than an eliminator. In some cases ways Willow is the perfect opponent to Athena, light vs darkness and they could have built a year long story around that leading to Final Battle. Ah well. Ah well. i think Willow should beat Athena then beat her again for the championship. Athena should be on Dynamite shes way to good too not be on tv.
