  1. I'd rate it really high on promos and in the Continental era (1985-1986) the matches on TV were actually pretty good. The lack of any real arena footage or anything other than TV squash matches during the Southeastern days is a real bummer though. I don't even know how much footage Dave was getting from that area though because the gaps in what I have in my collection seem to kind of line up with the times where he has barely any coverage of the territory.
  2. Alabama rasslin is everything that is good in this world to hell with Dave Meltzer.
  3. Yea if you got 34 you gotta drop someone to pick someone up, otherwise you can just pick someone up without a drop.
  4. On another note, I think we can retire the whole "drop someone to pick someone up" rule now with the roster cap in place. That rule was really just designed to keep people from gobbling up the whole free agent list and stockpiling guys which is no longer a possibility. I think if you're under the cap and want to pick someone up you should be good to go.

    The Nomination Thread

Brandon better at least do a Top 25 tag ballot since he's nominated every tag team that ever wrestled in WCW.
  6. I think we should take Johnny Powers out of the game, and possibly Dean Ho also although I guess we could wait another 2 months on Dean. I can't find any results for Powers past 1982 and Dean Ho retired at the end of 1983.
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5c5A5BVyds and here is a nice title match between Satanico & Sangre Chicana that was discovered after the lucha set was already out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUnYYgYE1bs
  8. Cool to see David show up and get into it with his former Florida mentor Dory Funk Jr., the guy responsible for the original heel David run.
  9. I'm quite glad you didn't announce that earlier. Don't really see a need to announce the 2-3 week stuff in here since the trade deals thread is really mostly to keep track of who is where on a permanent basis (and that announcing the short team stuff would most likely lead to "spoilers" as it would have in David's case for sure)

    Bob Armstrong

Is there a lot of footage of Bob Armstrong in his prime? Unfortunately not. Is there enough that I've seen that I'd still throw him in the bottom 10 of my ballot if I was doing one? Yes. Even old washed up Bob Armstrong in SMW was still putting on good performances. Promos don't really count for this but I might actually put him in my top 3 all time babyfaces promos with Lawler and Dusty. Also one of the great pro wrestling punchers.

    Forced Hiatus

There is no "minimum" of how much you have to write so if you just want to do quick results there shouldn't be anyone with an objection. This is what I've tried to encourage everyone I've talked to that got way behind to do as it leads to not feeling overwhelmed at trying to do some massive catch up effort.
  13. For as much as we might look at the finish and think it doesn't make any sense (and logically it doesn't) clearly it made sense from Boesch's point of view because the crowd went NUTS for it. I mean seriously they went crazy over Rich pinning Akbar and didn't seem to really care that there was no reason that should have actually been allowed. I don't think a countout or DQ would have gotten the same reaction and at the end of the day that's what it is all about in wrestling. The match itself is a ton of fun while it lasted. It felt short but then it was still probably the right length because any longer and we would have wound up with some long Kamala nerve hold as a control segment. As an aside this is a stacked card with Rich/Kamala, Duggan/Dibiase Street Fight and JYD/Reed North American title match as the top 3 matches.
  14. Despite being the smallest group in the project you continue putting matches on these cards that I'd really like to see. Add Ron Starr vs. Samu and The Nightmares vs. Scott Armstrong & Marty Jannetty to the list. Even if Scott & Marty were still really green at this point in time I think The Nightmares could have gotten something good out of them.
  15. I was really quite surprised that Buzz Sawyer lost the title so cleanly. Would have thought the dastardly Stud Stable would have gotten a bit more involved in that. Jimmy Golden also taking the TV Title off the Brisco AND Funk approved big man Charlie Cook means The Stud Stable is definitely making some waves. I can only imagine how much bragging would be going on in their promos, those guys certainly liked to celebrate when they won anything. Putting Tom Lintz in the Big Bubba role isn't the most original idea but he would have definitely looked imposing in the get up. I wonder what Tim Horner and Ricky Gibson are going to do now that they can no longer team up.
  16. Very interested to see what you do and what kind of shake ups happen with the former Toronto/IWF roster. Always good to have new writers come in.

    This Week In AWA

I'm digging this and how it's given me an outlet to up the profile of my top acts like Duggan, The Fabs & the now fractured Texas Dynasty. Eventually I might actually get the national audience "caught up" enough that I can start sending in current stuff but want to get El Gran Apollo some national shine with a Jose Lothario feud package before I get there.
  18. Seemed more like an excuse for another "El-P's moral compass post" where you let us know how you're against old dudes willingly wrestling each other because it's something they find fun and enjoyable along with your other examples of letting us know you won't watch matches with Invader or Ken Wayne.
  19. I believe Meltz reported that Funk was hurt by the fireball, yes. I would agree about the match being as good as it can be when the average age in the ring is 68. But that's the problem to me. I don't want to see a pro-wrestling match involving two guys that old. Then you could have easily not watched it. Not sure what is the point of you coming in here and shitting on the match and spoiling the surprise spot in it. Unless you're desperate to get your belt back from Parv.
  20. I thought the Mid-South one was the better of the two. I lost interest in the Dillon one because it was mostly stuff I've heard while at least the Mid-South one with Duggan has some funny stories that aren't all beaten to death.
  21. Please don't talk crazy just to put down Rollins. Yeah I don't think Seth is a great promo but he's decent, and he's had 3 back to back to back killer PPV title matches so. Remember he's reciting a script also. But this whole run is just to establish Seth as a top level star, they almost always make guys heel for there first big run, so that it matters when they turn face(Rock, Brock, Taker) I'm not talking crazy. EC3 and Rollins have similar characters and EC3 is better at playing it. I don't like Rollins as a promo and he DOES make me want to change the channel from watching him while EC3 is probably the only person I would go out of my way to watch in TNA.
  22. Thanks for plugging my fantasy Southwest at the end
  23. Thanks for pointing this out, gonna check this out later for sure. I was definitely hoping to eventually see this match after seeing it was going to happen.
  24. Yea I actually like Jake way more as a tag wrestler than as a singles. I feel like the tag matches I've seen with him and The Barbarian (John Nord) are better than the majority of Jake's singles matches.
  25. The point still stands that the actual discussion about those matches would not have all led you to believe they were going to finish in the top 20. There was a whole lot of hating on the Flair/Taylor series and talk about how the Reed/Flair matches went too long.
