This. I'd put in Mike Rotunda as I.R.S. (or his similar WCW gimmicks), mostly because there's a scene in Wall Street with Charlie Sheen wearing the white shirt, tie and suspenders that instantly remind me of him. All that was missing were the glasses.

I think it's cool he's in a Soderbergh film. -

WWE Network finally happening
flyonthewall2983 replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Megathread archive
What would be awesome (and in all likelihood, never happen) is that they make a bigger deal with Netflix for streaming new and old original programming. Or better yet, start up a new web venture not unlike Netflix or HBO Go. Put the idea of a television network out of their heads, and go online. But part of me kinda hopes this doesn't happen, as it would mean they would vigorously take everything they own off of Youtube. And there is some cool content there, that people have put up. -
This can't be ignored. The segment with the young man on Hulk's first DVD, who straightened his life up because of just seeing him on TV one day and going back to that place of when he was a kid and looked up to him. That was strong stuff.

Menounos I'll give ya.. (And she actually is a fan and did well in the one match she was in on RAW)... But you actually never heard of Mary Hart? The legs? The Seinfeld reference? Being a star on TV before there were 987 channels? Let alone her presence at WrestleMania III

Late '99 is when he first appeared on television, but he'd been working some dark matches (including one with Owen weeks before his death).

I saw the video. I don't know how it was perceived in the arena (let us consider for a moment, that a good chunk of WWE's audience wasn't even born when the company folded) but on TV it looked very awkward and fleeting, especially given the timing. -
Which makes no sense considering that Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest stars in music at the time. That's completely backwards. It's not as if Lou Albano was a hot property before he did that video. It makes them feel good to think people needed their spotlight.

Pillman's and Owen's families. I've seen that mentioned repeatedly, guys like Heenan have confirmed it. Flair also told a neat story about Arquette. After Dewey won the belt, he was sitting around backstage in a daze. Flair happened to walk by him, and Arquette (clearly uncomfortable with what had just happened) asked "Ric... what do I do now?" Flair told him to do what every old world champ used to, wear the belt down to the hotel bar that night and buy everyone a round of drinks. Apparently David took his advice to the letter. I don't blame that guy personally for anything that happened, he was just a victim in the wrong place at the wrong time in the middle of some of the worst bullshit that wrestling has ever seen. And Flair went on to say that by doing that David showed more respect to having the title than some other guys he'd seen.

As awful as the Arquette thing was (and as really fucking painful it was to see the graphic "former WCW champion" when he appeared on Raw awhile back), according to what I've read he donated all the money he made to Pillman's (and Spicolli's, maybe?) family. It's easy to understand DDP defending it, since that's a big part of his legacy.

Essentially this generation's Mary Hart.

I honestly have enough to hate about him already. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he was somehow involved in the cancellation of Terriers by this point. -

Your Wrestling Breaking Point
flyonthewall2983 replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
When WCW was bought out, I quickly realized that the fun of watching it was soon to end and that we would be stuck with the company I hated for much of '96 and after Bret left (actually liked the Bret heel turn enough to be interested in WWE again). I wouldn't describe that period as a breaking point, but during the Attitude era there were plenty of things that happened that turned me off, mostly the stupid lowest-common denominator stuff that was done to please the bone-heads in the audience. WCW wasn't much better then at all frankly, but I thought with the right people on board it would turn itself around. History ended up proving me wrong. I was already kinda out when the Benoit thing happened, to the point where it could be easily said I was watching more wrestling on CNN and MSNBC than on USA or Spike. It pushed a lot of personal buttons and feelings towards domestic violence and such, to the point where I just stopped reading the boards and the news and put on my DVD copy of The Big Lebowski to just have a fucking laugh at something. -
I suspect that's the plan.

I predict that's what'll happen, for probably the next two and then he'll quietly retire. It's just too bad he didn't stick with the biker gimmick, as it could have allowed him a proper send-off.

Performing once a year doesn't exactly mean you're a road dog, but you're bang on with everything else. Whoever brought up the idea of Cena breaking the streak being the beginning of his heel run would be an excellent idea.

Someone please tell me why they possibly aren't going with this where I think it's going, and this just being another case of WWE's serial star-fucking. -
