I can't think of an instance of Gorilla hurting a match that had any hope of being good. But I can remember him making plenty of Boris Zhuchov/Young Stallions matches tolerable. "Hey all you people who formed differing opinions on old stuff. I'm gonna put you in the nostalgia pile. I mean why else would anybody disagree with me?"
-
Yeah at his best Gang was great. Hell even coasting he was pretty good. A few years ago, I saw him have a decent match with ancient Sweet Brown Sugar.

Powers Of Pain were awesome in the the NWA, doing all sorts of sick double teams. Then they get to the WWF and they are told "You know all that neat shit you do? STOP DOING IT!!" What sick double team moves? They did a flying headbutt Demolition Decapitation to a jobber. Lots of stuff but that one really stood out. In the NWA Warlord was busting out all kinds of suplexes. I get that they could not do that to the Bolsheviks in midcard matches, but even the jobber matches were boring. WWF really botched the Demolition/Powers of Pain feud, considering Dusty practically gift wrapped it for them.

Those are not bad matches.

I remember what he said. He basically thought fans were disappointed if he did not do a trademark spot live. Almost like its false advertising not to get your shit in. Which I agree with somewhat. He also mentioned something about looking forward to seeing a guy (can't remember who) and he did not do a big thing he was known for.

It works overall. Actually they might of been going for that and the TV botched it. I find it hilarious Buddy is rejected when they accept Tommy Rich.
-
Yeah I've heard that, I'm just not sure it was intended. In ring I think Rich was the best.

I'm watching some 91 WCW. Ricky Morton really tanks the York Foundation gimmick. Rich and Taylor both change their looks for the gimmick, doing the slicked back hair and shoots. Morton still has the mullet. He works as a heel, but doesn't match the gimmick at all.

I did some searching and found the following from "The History of WWE" website: WCW @ Orlando, FL - Disney / MGM Studios - May 3, 1997 Pro taping: The Barbarian defeated Hack Myers That's the only result I can find for Hack Myers in WCW on there. I'd say the site's usually about 95% accurate with WWF listings, but I'm not sure about their WCW stuff. Sounds like Hack went through a similar treatment as "911/Tombstone/Big Al" did in WCW. If accurate, I think I remember Hack's name being tossed around the still-somewhat-new Internet marks as the "Impact Player set to debut at MGM Grand on Nitro" that WCW teased in June of that year (which turned out to be Raven and Curt Hennig). I couldn't believe how over Hack was in ECW in 1995. I'd say his "SHAH" chant got transferred over to Balls Mahoney with "BALLS". It satisfied the ECW Mutants' need to chant whenever a midcard guy threw a punch. He was on a couple of episodes of WCW Pro. Also Gangrel did one Pro Taping as Dave Heath. -
I watched the Dibiase/Savage series this morning. I thought the MSG match was really damn good. They really got across that they hated each other. Ted hates Savage because Savage fouled up his master plan and took the belt he was entitled too. Savage because Dibiase took things too far. Really liked the cage match too. They built it up so well and by the end of it I can't blame the kid for jumping that prick Virgil. Also watching a series of tag with Dibiase vs Hogan and Bigelow that really impressed me. He put in a bunch of really strong performances as a true main eventer.

Yeah Brody was just fucking with him as a joke.

I think the Nikita/Taylor feud played out really well. But I recently saw the promo that teed Flair off. Gilbert said something about UWF being a real wrestling promotion. Flair comes out later and goes off on Gilbert and Taylor. He did it in a way that fit the storyline and he did not bury them. But it was odd seeing him put over Nikita in a feud that did not involve him.

I remember at the time thinking it was Foley. Since he had a clear connection to Bearer and Taker and had a reason to hate Vince. Plus he could pull off the promos of a deranged master mind. -

Even the WWF magazines were spreading rumors Yoko was set to join the Hart Foundation. -

I don't even think that Baba would have loaned ECW one of his biggest draws at that stage of ECW's existence... I always heard it was in 1999. That Kobashi was interested in wrestling in the United States. -

Doug Furnas and Dan Kroffat had a good enough run in ECW. Dr.Death fit in fine too. Really Kobashi would just come in and beat the shit out of guys for ten minutes. Easiest thing in the world. The bigger problem would be Heyman fucking over All Japan like he did FMW.
