It's been a known issue with the Network since the beginning I believe.

I mean, there is the reality that someone the age of Cornette and Hogan growing up where they did would absolutely be exposed to the mindset that it was okay to use the language they did. The problem is that doesn't give them an unlimited pass to be a shithead long past the point anyone could reasonably believe they still felt it was okay. Unfortunately as we see in all walks of entertainment/politics/athletics, people will often engage in all sort of mental gymnastics to ignore or somehow handwave way shithead behavior in people they really like and don't want to see tarnished in any way. It sucks, but sometimes people you liked end up being shitheads, and it's okay to acknowledge that. It won't make your memories any less valid to do so. Hell, I grew up in an age where Bill Cosby was considered America's Dad and that certainly didn't age well. Doesn't change one bit I loved the hell out of his shows as a kid.

The funny part is Memphis was seen as the "outlaw mudshow wrestling" of it's time and that's what he grew up on. You would think he would understand that even if something isn't his cup of tea that people tend to gravitate toward something different than what the mainstream is offering. I've always had issue with this excuse. My grandpa calling black folks "colored" (when that was the proper term in his day) way past the point it was no longer acceptable is more in line of what you're trying to say here. There's never been a time the n-word was considered acceptable, and even if you're raised in an environment where it flows freely you come to understand that fairly quickly once you're out in the world. As far as Cornette is concerned, I think it is a gimmick in the sense that he knows it will keep his name in the mouths of modern fans. He doesn't seem to realize that it's because he's seen as a bitter old crank (or at least someone trying to convince you that he is one) rather than the encyclopedic fountain of wrestling knowledge he should be known as. It's like he buys into the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" argument.

I didn't even catch it the first time, but Cody said when the Elite and the Inner Circle meet it will be a "match beyond". That just happens to be one of the trademarks he picked up when he was trying to get as much of Dusty's intellectual property as he could back under his control. That tells me it's pretty much a lock that we'll get a War Games match in the not too distant future. Also I would think Cody would have at least a couple month run as champ coming off of this. Not only would it be paying off something that would make the fans happy, it would solve the problem of Jericho being champ when he faces Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom.

Charlotte was one of the big towns on the old Crockett circuit. They had tons of Flair vs Dusty encounters there. Edited to add: I just looked it up and the arena they were in tonight was the same one JCP ran in the 70s and 80s, so there's even more of a connection.

The gimmick sucks, but having a good working team that everyone else can beat isn't the worst thing.

Also this was announced today https://www.retromaniawrestling.com/latest-news/national-wrestling-alliance-and-nwa-champion-nick-aldis-coming-to-retromania-wrestling Getting the NWA studio ring/set in a video game that wasn't someone's creation has been something I've always wanted but never thought I'd ever get. 2019 is wild.

Jesus Christ, just give Cody all the belts. That was like Dusty just embodied his soul during that promo.

I don't get what his endgame is. I suppose the podcast market is more profitable than I think it is since no one's spending money on a show just because Jim Cornette is on it. The Joeys' (Ryan and Janela) aren't my cup of tea but if they can make it work there's clearly a market for what they have to offer. Pretty much any time I see Corny complaining these days this is what enters my mind:
-
I would think at least 70s, they would show classic matches on the Sunday WWC shows up until the storm hit and would regularly have matches from stadium shows from the late 70s/early 80s.

Congrats to Ryan Satin, all those years of caping for the WWE on Twitter under the guise of reporting finally got him that job he's been so transparently angling for. He'll be part of WWE's Backstage show on FS1.

Not sure why it included my comment in the quote, but editing won't let me fix it so whatevs.

Interesting news from the WWE Network News site mailbag: As luck would have it, yes there is. For those unaware, back in November last year, news broke that WWE had acquired the video library of World Wrestling Council (WWC) of Puerto Rico. One major concern was that the footage was severely damaged by a hurricane that had then-recently happened in the area. Unfortunately, we were told a good few months ago that this was indeed the case and the issues were so extensive that a lot of the acquired tapes were sent to an outside specialist. However, there is a positive. According to a source, WWE ended up receiving a lot more footage than expected, including “a ton” of unmarked film reels. So the impression we were given at the time was that even if a significant chunk is deemed unsalvageable, the larger haul means that a good chunk would hopefully still survive. It’s impossible to say regarding the near future, but I will say that if footage from WWC does surface on WWE Network in the coming months, I’d say it’s highly likely to appear in Hidden Gems or via documentary clips first and not as a “classic content” batch of full episodes. So while it sucks that it appears a good chunk was damaged, the fact that they could save a lot more than was expected is an excellent sign for the future.

They might as well at this point. Maybe he'll come off as less of a whiny manchild if his tweets get drenched in unreadable WWE speak.

They could do it Jack Tunney style (like how they do it with Regal in NXT) where the authority figure only shows up to make important announcements/decisions, but that won't get the McMahons on TV enough I suppose. It had the added weight of making it feel important when the authority figure had something to say (I remember when Jack Tunney showed up when I was a kid I knew shit was about to go down), but that horse has been beaten so dead the last 20 odd years it's not even worth using as glue at this point.

So two things were bothering me in this whole story tonight: 1. Why would Seth Rollins in storyline even want the NXT title? It's like the captain of the football team going back to his old school after he graduated. 2. Why would the RAW announcers promote matches on NXT? I mean I know why, but in Kayfabe land it makes no sense for the RAW team to hype up the invaders' show. I think the most deflating thing is yet again they took something that could have been cool and made it all about BRAND BRAND BRAND as if anyone outside a boardroom gives the slightest of shits about that.
