Around the late 1990s was there any other wrestling company aside from WWF & WCW that did PPVs on a regular basis? The fact that PPV money was a reason they closed makes your point redundant.

What about matches that felt big, if they weren't actually big. Regal managed that with Ambrose, certainly.

Maybe not big matches no, but I'd wager influential would have something to do with how good they are. I mean, to my (probably flawed) logic something would have to be a least a bit good for it to change things and inspire people to follow that persons style or whatever.

It's not really a shoot interview as wrestling itself is only discussed for about the first 20 minutes, but Kevin Steen interviewing Cliff Compton is an absolute joy. I don't think there's anyone in wrestling as funny as Compton. He tells a tremendous story. His yarn about meeting Sami Zayn for the first time going to a GnR concert together had me pissing myself.

I'm not sure on that. I'd argue the increase in match quality in 2001 was more that he was put in more positions to have better matches in 2001 due to a higher quality of opponent in that year to what he had to work with in 1998-9, not on Austin himself being a better worker that year.

I can't remember who said it here, but someone was of the opinion that when Austin returned in 2000 his face just didn't seem to fit like it used to, and I'm inclined to agree.
