Cruisers match was great
-
I really liked that tag match. Cool finish that sets up a reason for a rematch
-
I like the concept. Could be an interesting journey if the young, modern fans, begin to slowly come around on the classic stuff after starting here as novices with a lot of negative preconceptions about the old days. I would suggest uploading the footage if possible and have your commentary over it so everyone can watch along.

On paper this show looks good. Reigns vs Strowman should be heated and hard hitting. I expect Joe vs Zayn to deliver. Charlotte vs Bayley should as well. I'm intrigued with how you book Owens vs Goldberg. Seems wrong to have Goldberg work a competitive long match before facing Lesnar again. Do we get a squash of Owens then?

What percentage of the time do you think WWE storylines payoff in satisfying fashion? I am afraid to provide my answer to that for fear it will be seen as a troll, but I am genuinely curious. I will provide it at some point after other people provide theirs. I have no idea, depends on your definition of "satisfying". I just feel that there is way too much hand wringing about hypothetical shittyness

Why must we always condemn a match/storyline/whatever before it happens? At least let it play out first, and then shit all over it

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Ricky Jackson replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
And apparently they officially dumped the TNA name on camera, so maybe we can finally close this thread and open a new one called "Is Impact Wrestling the worst wrestling promotion in history?" -
Based on the awards, 2016 New Japan should be remembered as the greatest year by a promotion in wrestling history I don't watch, so I have no idea how accurate that statement is
-
Great call. That match is the very definition of wrestling a broomstick
-
And also against Tom Magee if the legend is true

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
Ricky Jackson replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I have only listened to maybe 30-40% of the episodes, but I really like this show. Conrad can be a dick, but the value of Prichard's first hand stories outweighs the bad IMO -
Steele had matches against Bruno during both his reigns, Fuji only during his second, so it's even more impressive
-
I think this is a very interesting point. Fuji winning worst manager year after year as a subconscious fuck you by Dave and his followers to the WWF for continuing to prop up a stereotypical Japanese sneaky heel and not embracing the Japanese workrate revolution

Excellent Koloff bio by Meltzer in this week's issue

Under-the-radar wrestling book recommendations
Ricky Jackson replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Has anyone read the Piper bio done by his kids and have any thoughts? Just got that one yesterday -
I think Stu Sutcliffe may be more accurate
-
Had a great time doing this. Listen as I sell out and give star ratings for the first time!
-
Considering the tag division is going nowhere it's a way better spot than some random muti team match

Richard Land put together this super cool video of highlights of Ivan's final WWF run from 1983. Includes various TV squashes, promos, and a big angle he did with Pat Patterson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtV0H3JjFcc

Titans of Wrestling #76: Retrospective
Ricky Jackson replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Awesome work by Parv on the retrospective. Music was always a key part of the Titans package and his choices here are top notch Anyone interested in further trips down memory lane should check out the three Best of Titans volumes (cheapest of the cheap plugs) Vol 1 (Dom vs the Baron, Frank Williams bio, Bob vs Hogan) https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/the-best-of-titans-of-wrestling-volume-1?in=prowrestlingonly/sets/the-best-of-titans-of Vol 2 (The complete Bruno vs Larry Z feud) https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/bruno-vs-larry?in=prowrestlingonly/sets/the-best-of-titans-of Vol 3 (Best of Kelly's bios) https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/the-best-of-titans-of-wrestling-volume-3-the-bios-of-chief-jay-historian?in=prowrestlingonly/sets/the-best-of-titans-of Look for the finale to drop on Wednesday! -
An all time great, who will hopefully continue to be appreciated more with each passing year RIP

I'll admit I was never a fan, but recently my eyes were opened by exposure to his crazed heel work in NYC in the 70s. At that time he was actually great in his role as a dangerous lunatic with not a single redeeming quality, a type of heel that simply doesn't exist anymore. If your only exposure to Steele is as a cartoon babyface in the 80s I recommend checking out some of his 70s work, such as the cage match with Bruno that was recently added to the network

I believe that's a reference to Linda calling Dr. Zahorian and telling him to destroy/get rid of any records of dealing with WWF wrestlers/Vince after she was tipped off that he was being investigated by the FBI for steroid distribution, thus eliminating a potential smoking gun during Vince's trial years later
