  1. Yeah to this day we have to pay Stevie Ray a solid penny each time. I lost 6 cents on this post.
  2. Jesse actually said this ONE of the greatest matches I've ever seen. nitpicking yeah.
  3. I think Russo's twisted logic was that it was SO obvious that Kane was gonna cost Taker the match he had to have them "reconcile" so the fans would be shocked by the finish. I'll let someone else deconstruct the stupidity of that but it's amusing at least.
  4. It appears they've decided to STOP adding 95 Raws almost right before the MNW started. Making it impossible to watch a Raw, then a Nitro (or vice versa). I swear the people running this thing..................
  5. That's the one yes. He said that prior to that he believed the WWF to be a family but never thought so again.
  6. You're saying managers SHOULD be selling for the babyface world champion Parv? Yeah Gary's ego was out of control. His timeline on Texas wrestling is nuts too. The way he tells it he ran the whole state from 1970-1982 and within MONTHS of his departure every territory except WCCW went belly up
  7. I hear he was good in FL but for me Oliver Humperdink was overall worst in Fuji's era. I just have no use for the guy, though he was a great guy in real life and a regular KM poster. Sapphire was sadly quite over.
  8. Watching Flair-Santana from Royal Albert Hall Everything Gorilla did to not get Flair over is justified. By Flair's performance here which is so self destructive it's sad. Flair just didn't get it.
  9. Here's the thing about Sting, while I don't think he's a great worker, but he's sure as heck an enthusiastic one. Or at least pre-Crow Sting always was. But the moment he steps through the curtain at Starrcade 97 he's like a dead man walking and he doesn't get into being even a decent worker for a few months. So my question is this, how much of this was Ring rust Trying to play the crow character and not really figuring out you can't be boring Realizing his run as the tippy top guy had been brought to an end by Hogan's politics? I never hear Sting talk about this so I've got to assume he's ignorant, has anyone ever asked him his opinion of the Nick Patrick fast count?
  10. BTW that's NOT a cheap shot at Taker. But both Yoko and Mabel were booked as legit monsters, unlike Sid and Vader.
  11. IF Hogan had just done what was right and been beaten from pillar to post and pinned by Sting we wouldn't even be having this conversation sadly. I think an NWO sans Hogan could have lasted throughout 98 but no longer than that. Positive outweigh the negatives but most of the positives were unintended side effects.
  12. No more so than Coward Sid the year before. WWF had a real hard time booking monsters who weren't friends of Undertaker.
  13. This is the best defense of Gorilla I've ever heard. I would argue people watched Prime Time for them.
  14. Gorilla was like the dad you could NEVER make happy if you were a young wrestler he was doing commentary for. I grew up with people like that so it doesn't annoy me as much, its just their natural personalities Having said that yes I just watched and yeah it's a huge problem. If you ever wanted proof Vince wasn't always yelling announcer's ears here you go
  15. Half the WWF roster in the late 80's was protected. Clean jobs unless you were wrestling Hogan or Warrior were super rare. There's a whole tier of guys (Savage, Piper, Dusty, Rude, Perfect, Jake, Dibiase, Duggan, Bravo, Bad News, Bossman) who rarely jobbed clean except to those two.
  16. I'd say these are valid criticisms of a good announcer. Gorilla after Heenan left is clearly a huge detriment to the product, and even his beloved Polo combo is all about Polo doing this MST3K style of commentary and just completely exasperating Gorilla (I suspect for real) Gorilla clearly didn't like Flair and wasn't going out of his way to make Flair look good. I remember even as a kid though, not being impressed with Flair in the slightest until RR92 (I had never seen NWA stuff then). I'd argue Flair did himself no favors either, yes his match with Tito in 91 is great but why is Tito destroying him for most of the match? It was not how any WWF heel was presented and it made him a joke. That's Flair's fault and yeah Gorilla could have covered for him but he chose not to. Prior to that though, can you think of any match Gorilla hurt with his commentary? I'd argue even his teamups with Mean Gene and Lord Alfred and Hillbilly enhanced boring house show matches rather than ruined them. I'd like to see some where the reverse is true in that era to see if I am wrong.
  17. Daniel Bryan slays the dragon at Wrestlemania. That's about all I can see working at this point. Cena has a CHANCE if he comes out and actually sells this correctly. But I cannot think of a time he's ever done that in his career to be honest.
  18. Yeah I see no need to keep going with this. If you don't understand how much of a factor Shawn was you don't understand what happened at all. You must think Regan and Goneril are non factors in Lear or something.
  19. Reigns would not work. Honestly at this point I'm not sure anyone would. I have heard rumors of it being the Rock in his retirement match, but again no, don't see that working either.
  20. And come to that then how does that make what Flair did "Best for business" Exactly how was showing up on Prime Time with the WCW belt helping WCW out? So by that logic you'd be okay with Bret no showing Montreal and showing up the next night on Nitro with the WWF belt and laughing in Vince's face? I love your views on just about everything here Parv and almost always agreed with your perspective. But here.....I don't know. I think you're just misinformed about trying "Everything". Unless everything means you MUST lose to Shawn Michaels on this night at this arena despite him refusing to ever put you or ANYONE over again and basically spending a year trying to ruin your life and career. Let me pose this in a way you will relate to Parv. Your university tells you they are breaching your contract. BUT you are required to finish the term out in class as the assistant to the new professor. Whom you must praise and support all the time, and kiss ass to publicly and privately. And as they finish JDW walks through the door with a smile on his face.
  21. There were other options. Have Bret drop the belt anywhere to anyone else and then THEY job to Shawn at Survivor Series. But that couldn't happen because Vince wanted to humiliate Bret on the way out in the way that felt the most personal and heartbreaking to Bret. With HHH and Shawn behind him all the way. Your point about it being right for business Parv? That's enough for you? That sure as heck isn't how Shakespeare would have written it.
  22. I'd love to say it was neither and just his love for Shawn Michaels. But honestly I think it was a combination of all 3. I wonder if, when Vince realized Shawn was out for a LONG time after RR98 and there was no guarantee Austin would take off as much as he did if he ever regretted it. Tend to doubt it though. One thing Bret didn't do is show up on WCW with the world title. That Flair guy did which was what inspired this thread to begin with.
  23. Hahahahha I can't wait to bury Bill Watts about a few things myself if I get the chance.
  24. I feel kind of responsible for this whole thing. Though the fact that PWO has a member who could provide better legal aid to Vince than what he's got is either funny or sad.
  25. Was it? I've heard this as a talking point before and not agreed. Sure he won squash matches super fast even for JCP standards. But the moment he got into feuds with the top guys he stopped winning clean and went into the trade W's and L's and tons of DQ's of all the other top guys. He lost the best of 7 series to Nikita. It seems like they let him get to almost Dusty levels and then stopped him cold. A true Goldberg push would have ended with him beating Flair for the title the first time they met in 85.
