Yes, that's the one. Terry's post match attack set up a match between Invader and Terry around the beginning of November.
-
I thought the story was that Flair was refusing to put Luger over at Starrcade and then Dusty wanted to go with Rick Steiner beating Flair in under five minutes as a sort of FU to his refusal. Push came to shove and Dusty got canned. What was it that happened then (so I can get the right story of events)?
-
I was thinking Luger too but not 1988 although he should've won it then....but 1990 when Sting got hurt.....Luger turning face because he as a heel was so disgusted by Flair's tactics that he was going to the win the title in Sting's honor. Blame Flair for that one. Heck, blame Flair for both those times.

Probably the first Observer of November. Thanks Bix! If Patera stays on the ballot this year, does anyone know if he would move to the historical bracket next year? 1985 seems to be his last meaningful year (anything post jail I see as visible but not meaningful).
-
This may have been mentioned already in the thread (apologies for asking if so), but when are the results going to be announced?
-
The Non-wrestlers being presented separately except when counting the votes for their percentage and the Esperanto bracket just mess things up for many candidates. That's without getting into the new 15 year rule. Hopefully the casualties are minimal.

Place to Be Podcast Episode 337: Tom Prichard
El Boricua replied to Bigelow34's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Tom Prichard was a great guest, you could easily spend hours listening to him talk. Look forward to hopefully more Prichard. -
Don't know the details of the provider for the iPPV yet, but they've said it's going to be $15. El Patron not appearing may be related to AAA dates taking priority for him, he's apparently booked in Tijuana the day before Aniversario. Whatever they're going to do now will probably be clear this coming weekend when Ricardo Rodriguez is expected to appear with a special message for Ray.

The Embry match is definitely from 1986. It's soon after the Vengeance in the Afternoon card, where Invader had come to Super Medico's aid when Embry cheated to win a hair vs. mask match against Medico. Invader came out to protest what happened and there were commission members at ringside because of the scheduled main event between Carlos Colon and Abdullah (this was Colon's return from the ammonia incident). The ref ended up restarting the match, Embry lost and Invader helped Medico cut Embry's hair. That leads us into this match. For the Kamala match, if I remember the explanation given, Invader was attacked by Abdullah just before the match with Kamala. He received medical attention but proceeded with the match against doctor's orders. I think Abdullah attacked him as payback for Invader interfering in a match Abdullah had against Carlos. I think this is the one where Invader jumped off the second rope with a heart punch onto Abdullah, allowing Carlos to retain the title after Abdullah had attempted chicanery. Kamala would usually come in for specific weekend shots, he didn't have extended runs as far as I can recall. I wouldn't doubt that there was a return match the next time Kamala returned. As for a follow up, I think the match between Invader and Abdullah with Carlos as special referee might have been the follow up to the pre match attack. This would then dovetail into the eventual 6 man tag and the ammonia attack. Hopefully I'm not messing up this sequence of events.

If you're looking for current WWC, you can find it at the following link: http://www.bumbia.com/wwc/ They're only posting the Saturday shows there now. And on the Aniversario front, they've announced that El Patron will not be able to appear, it will be avaialble on iPPV, and that the event will be dedicated this year to Chicky Starr.

Wrestlers is up to 10 selections overall. Non-wrestlers is up to 5 selections (it used to be unlimited but was changed for last year's election). Ballots with 15 names are voting for the maximum allowed (10 wrestlers and 5 non-wrestlers).

Good Will Wrestling: Fixing the WWE PPV Schedule
El Boricua replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Enjoyed this show guys. My unsolicited opinion: Royal Rumble - Agree that it's in a good spot where it is. I've been watching all of the rumble matches recently (in the hopes of maybe posting a review of them sometime in the near future) and one thing that I'm not a fan of anymore is the winner getting the WrestleMania title shot. It really limits your options and makes things predictable in match where the premise is built on unpredictability. However, the winner should get something worthy of winning such a match. I think it would be better if the prize for winning the Rumble is the MITB contract title shot. It just make sense to me that it should be the prize. As for the WrestleMania World title challenger... Elimination Chamber - This is where you have the WrestleMania title shot up for grabs. You have the chamber match among your most credible challengers, and it opens up the possibility of establishing future opponents for the World champion post WrestleMania. Plus, the Elimination Chamber is one of the few gimmick matches that would benefit from being at set time or event. It doesn't lend itself for feuds, but it does lend itself for deciding something (such as a title challenger). WrestleMania - Whatever issues one may have regarding the booking philosophy for the event and the use of special attractions, no complaints about this one in terms of where it is. Extreme Rules - In recent years it has been a lazy crutch where they run WrestleMania rematches with stipulations. I guess it depends on your viewpoint of how much should start anew after WrestleMania and how much should continue. One thing though... Payback - Wouldn't a special event named Payback make more sense as the post WrestleMania return match card? And then you lead into the gimmick matches at Extreme Rules, since you still tend to get relatively fresh matches at WrestleMania. I'd flip Payback and Extreme Rules on the calendar. Money in the Bank - I'm with you guys,, I'm over the MITB ladder match. In the end it's a multi person ladder match. I honestly prefer putting the MITB shot as the Rumble prize. It puts the case looming in the background all year. And they definitely should do it more like RVD did, use it to say that you want the champion at this time. The cash in when a guy's vulnerable ends up hurting the winner more than it helps in terms of credibility (especially with WWE's notoriously weak follow up booking). I'd actually prefer bringing back KOTR, which can help establish someone for SummerSlam if one chooses to go that route. Battleground - No set opinion, although with a name like that the event just screams for War Games. SummerSlam - Agree that getting out of LA should help and they should consider the possibility of domes. Other than that, it's fine as it is. Night of Champions - I like the idea of adding that legends/Slamboree type element. I think that the focus should be that this is the event where special challenges are made by former title holders and you get to see some interesting matchups. Only former World champions are eligible to challenge the world champion, former I-C champs challenge for the I-C title, etc. You may be able to set up some interesting one night only matches like this. Hell in a Cell - Absolutely agree that this should be Halloween themed and there is ample opportunity to have fun with costumes. Hey, your audience is kids, this is a good opportunity for some fun things. As for the match itself, 100% agree that this is not a match that should be set for an event, this is something for feuds that should be used when appropriate. Survivor Series - They should definitely work on the survivor series match aspect more. This is my favorite PPV concept from a nostalgia standpoint and I wish they would do the team elimination matches more. TLC - I'd keep the different matches but change the name if the event. And I would make it a Spin the wheel deal to determine the match stipulation. Hey, it's the holidays, the season for presents. You can tie in the surprise element of the stipulations with the idea of it being like a surprise present on Christmas morning. As for other themes, I'm a big a fan of the Lethal Lottery concept and would think it could work as an event. It would at least provide a different dynamic, which should be the focus or these events. All in all, an enjoyable show.- 13 replies

Good Will Wrestling: The Legend of Dick Murdoch
El Boricua replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
One thing about the cities, it's not only the size but also that some were on a monthly card loop, while others were on a biweekly or weekly loop. How would that factor into the equation when you have to draw once a month in a city vs. having to draw weekly with the same matchup?- 201 replies

Seconded. Sure, I'd be glad to do it. I have to see how I fit this into my free time, but I'll do it. How would you need the info presented and what would you need it to cover?

Out of curiosity, did you watch the cage match after watching the feud in order or did you watch it in isolation? For anyone looking to watch these matches, there's a guide for the feud in the Puerto Rico wrestling thread.

A team I'm looking forward to see reevaluated, since their run as the Bushwhackers and the fact that they worked a lot of territories that were not as prominent in footage in prior years has likely caused some people to write them off as a good tag team.

If you'd like, let me know who you would like to nominate and I'll see if I can help dig up the reviews. -

QFT! If you think that (and it's a valid viewpoint although i wouldn't say it's shameful), then nominate Tama. There's got to be an Islanders thread in the Microsscope that should cover him. -
I'd like to nominate: Badd Company/Orient Express (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond/Kato) - The AWA 80's set and the Rumble 91 match thread should be enough to qualify. Sheepherders/Bushwhackers (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) - The Buddy Rose thread in the Microscope forum and the Puerto Rico wrestling thread have more than enough reviews for them to qualify.
-
By all means, if there is any wrestler that someone feels should be considered go ahead and nominate them. The modern indie scene is one of my various 'blind spots' (I've seen some matches but probably not more than two dozen) and I would love to give everyone that is nominated their due consideration. But the key is to nominate them.

So the vote will be for 25? I think 50 teams would match up better with 100 singles, but it may be too much to do together.

Wow, you guys were vicious with Sting's candidacy. Remind me not to piss you guys off. -
Hope you enjoy it! if you need any context details, give a shout and I'll see if I can help (the downside of not having see this since it aired is you tend to forget or fudge details in your memory).

The categories are a problem in that the voters self select in which ones they vote. While there are prudent voters that know their limitations, it wouldn't surprise me that many do not and they 'hit and run' categories voting for the one or two candidates they are familiar with while hurting other candidates in the total vote base count they have that to surpass for the 60%. Heck, that weird Australia/Caribbean/Latveria/Duloc mish mash category is forcing prudent voters to do just that through no fault of their own. If you are doing categories, the best way is how Mr. Lister suggests with the yes, no or abstain format (provided all voters are honest about where their knowledge limitations are). Right now, someone with a little knowledge can be dangerous in terms of doing hit and runs on categories they really shouldn't be voting on, while voters with a wider and more informed knowledge base are handcuffed by the 10 candidate limit overall (Dylan's post being an example of someone that's constricted by the 10 candidate limit).

Two quick questions. How would a three man unit where they would rotate the two who defended be treated (ex. Freebirds, Nikita-Ivan-Krusher)? And in the case of trios, would they be eligible, and if so as a three man unit or as two of the three as a tag team (ex. Los Brazos or Brazo de Oro & Plata)?
