[2018-04-08-WWE-Wrestlemania XXXIV] John Cena vs The Undertaker
peachchaos replied to ShittyLittleBoots's topic in April 2018
It's tragic to see how far both Cena and Taker have fallen in terms of performance. With Undertaker, it was to be expected due to age, but Cena clearly has several years left and should be at the top of his game. So instead of the classic successor to the Michaels-Undertaker series, after all these years the dream match became a dream angle by pure necessity. The buildup was certainly nothing to write home about, with a babyface Cena calling out the legend for weeks on end to no avail. This would have been perfect schtick for ANY heel on the roster and instead they go back to the well of Tweener Cena. The trouble is, the bloom is off the rose and Cena has worked passed the smarky crowds and earned their respect. But none of that matters because Undertaker appears after a 20 minute segment and squashes Cena in 4 minutes. The work doesn't look all that impressive (not that it needed to) and there is never any doubt who will win. Undertaker gets all his shit in and we're home. DUD A better approach would have been to program a heel Kurt Angle (who can't move anyway) with Taker and have Cena fill what should have been The Rock's role in the Rousey program. Angle certainly didn't add a whole lot in the build or in the ring to the Rousey program, while I think Cena would have both made a lot of sense and brought his A-game in an already classic match. Angle's whole heel act could have gone down in a blaze of glory one last time and no one would have expected anything close to an even fight. Personally, I enjoyed the Elias part of the segment a lot more, which was better than it had any right to be. But none of this belonged on an already over-long and excessive card presented as the biggest show of the year. -

I love it because an asshole like Ciampa would not take the loss lying down. No idea how they top that New Orleans match, though.
-
How about that match AJ and Bryan put on that was almost all matwork? Would be nice to see some more of that on the main stage.
-
I guess I really need to talk to Tom.

Oh I hope so I want 1998 Attitude extra segments. There won't be extras for Heat since those were usually taped before RAW.

There are a few good Tiger Mask-Dynamite Kid matches, but certainly not the one from 83. It's boring and sloppy and breaks down in the middle with the finish being a severe head-scratcher. This almost positively runs away with the award for most overrated 5 star match.

fingers crossed for a proper Styles-Bryan match on this show

Whoa, I did not see this coming at all. SLB and I are typically far more in tune, taste wise. That's gonna go down as one of the biggest outlier takes of the year. This was perfect wrestling on every level.

Clearly they need to revamp the entire show. I would bring the Slammys back to focus the show on the current product and have one or two HOF inductees honored per year. Move it to a theater setting so it's mostly industry professionals. Put it on Thursday night and let there be a 3rd wrestling show on WM wknd, maybe an all women's show even.

more likely baseball than tennis, no? and the sporting terms more than likely derived from playing cards

Twin Peaks/wrestling cross-posting
peachchaos replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Pro Wrestling Mostly
Two of my favorites things? I'll bite. As with any subgenre of memes, you have to weed through some stinkers and clinkers to find the gold, but the Bagwell/Judy thing really had me going. Also this is a good place to post how warm it makes me feel when I see Lance Russell, Dave Brown right along ringside in front of that good old red curtain in 82-83. -
I agree 100% and if there was one thing they could to immediately make him look like a bigger star, it's take the vest off. Imagine if Hogan worked with the tank on all those years.

Oh, Shane was cleared to work Mania? That's highly disappointing. I was really looking forward to Kane for some reason.

Unrelated, but I watched this match from the 2004 WWE Road Warriors DVD last night. It's not very good but it's from the Omni so maybe the release of TLBA shouldn't have been such a big shock. The Road Warriors (With Paul Ellering) vs. The Brisco Brothers - Texas Tornado Match (Atlanta, GA 8/28/83) The best part of going thru Mid Atlantic has been being able to see footage from other territories that haven't made the Network (Georgia, Florida).

obviously Bray returns from the Lake of Reincarnation as The Undertaker

Maybe the coolest looking BELT since the Attitude Era. It's like a modern redesign of the classic alligator skin United States Championship. Is this gonna be Ricochet's title??

Angle sticks out like a sore thumb. They need to get him out of the goofy suit and into the wrestling machine mode. I mean someone is going to have to have their working boots on in the damn match, in any case.

[2018-03-11-Lucha Memes] Negro Casas vs Aramis
peachchaos replied to Phil Schneider's topic in March 2018
Casas does the most amazing thing here. When the kid finally takes his shirt off a few minutes into the match, Casas threatens to take his trunks off before they get back to business. The reaction from Aramis is priceless as well. Really fun, fast paced work here. -
They draw really great when they get Omega. They've never drawn more than 3,500. 6k for ROH is unprecedented even if the announcement for Omega-Cody spiked ticket sales. Seems highly unlikely they'd ever draw this number if they're not running the same market the same weekend as a major WWE event. This article lists the capacity at 5,162. Joe Koff is an old school wrestling promoter, so you have to factor that in as well. It will be very interesting to see what happens in Chicago.

Please, yes. Give me 20 minutes of Andre-Bock.

Seems unfair to draw a comparison to Mania weekend show. Is ROH drawing anything close to that for anything they're not piggybacking off WWE?
