  1. Has anyone booked for longer than Vince McMahon? By all accounts he has lived and breathed booking wrestling 24 hours a day for 30+ years now. His success is insurmountable. While he's had many collaborators over the years, he's always been the Ace booker. WrestleMania. Pay Per View. Monday Night RAW. Hulkamania.
  2. Technically it's two different matches. It was billed as Hart vs. Lawler so I'm considering the entire segment in my rating. Realistically, I could see people watch it and look at it as nothing more than a pair of **1/2 matches, but it's much much more than that.
  3. I'd be willing to bet that they have a drama already in production and they just want to use the survey to make these seem like popular demands to investors. Same with airing footage from other companies etc. Just a hunch.
  4. Along the lines of the JR threads, I sorta wish we had a different Flair thread (sigh). Seems like this will be a net positive for his life.
  5. Duke "The Dumpster" Drose was universally panned as a terrible gimmick, and rightfully so, but I thought the guy working the role held his own in the ring. I recall him looking good out there with Hunter among some others, but it was obvious from the getgo that the character was a flop. Part of me really really wishes he had a comeback during the Attitude Era so he could've smashed some trash cans in the Hardcore Division. Ahh, what could have been!
  6. These are all decent ideas but none of them will translate into new subscribers. A TV-14 program is something they should probably test the water with, just please not an ECW reboot. WWE attempting prestige drama is so far removed from what they really need to be at this point, so obviously that's what we're gonna get.

    Starrcade is back

To work people into thinking that a regular house show is suddenly a REALLY BIG DEAL because they gave it a name instead of just having it be part of whatever the tour name is at that time. Judging by the internet reaction that's worked quite well. Right, this is the same reason they did a title change at MSG a few months back.
  8. The third Headshrinker was going to be Yoko.
  9. Big Bad Leroy Brown coming out to the song of the same name would probably be the most on the money use of a song ever, but this is pro wrestling.

    Starrcade is back

I'm generally "whatever" about everything they do. But running Starrcade on Thanksgiving weekend in Greensboro is a good idea thumbs up. Would I prefer it to be on the Network and replace Survivor Series as the Novemeber special forever and ever, correcting an age-long blunder and righting the injustices of wrestling history? Sure. But a house show is cool, too.
  11. Cool find! I don't remember much about this one other than it was dubbed the "Human Cage Match" on WCW Saturday. I mentioned it in another thread but there's a March 1982 Capital Centre show that has Backlund and Adonis in a Lumberjack Match as the Main Event and it's also an extremely good match. Yeah, I really enjoy both of these and probably for the same reasons. The Adonis match in particular is just a strong match without a gimmick attached but they use the outside interference effectively enough that it makes it feel like a much bigger deal than a house show main event.
  12. I've never read one negative comment about him personally. I think it really says a lot about a person who worked in this business.

    Starrcade is back

A very cool idea for a house show, nonetheless.
  15. This is a really good brawl! Kinda took me by surprise since I'm not too high on Bugsy, but this is my kind of TV wrestling. Felt like there was blood right around the corner at any moment and the right guy goes over to set up the rematch around the horn.

  17. With Jeff Hardy, it's never been an issue of having great "performances" in these big Jerry Bruckheimer wrestling matches. The problem is that despite being in WWF development for the entire 1990's, Jeff Hardy absolutely sucks at the mechanics of pro wrestling.
  18. Watched this last night while going through the 1982 Yearbook. Still fantastic stuff. I always get tripped up on the Memphis vs. Louisville dates. I prefer to watch this stuff with the Memphis air date since that's when it aired first even though there are promos for shows at the Gardens. The highlights of the No DQ match from 3/15 are pretty spectacular as well. TV – March 20, 1982 (aired in Louisville 3-27-82) – Southern title: Jerry Lawler (ch) vs. Dutch Mantell (No DQ) (JIP) (3-15-82, MSC) – INT Dutch Mantell – INT Jerry Lawler – Southern title: Jerry Lawler (ch) vs. Dutch Mantell (Loser Leaves Town) I strongly suggest watching this episode before viewing the 3/22 MSC No DQ match between the two is what I'm getting at.
  19. I want to say there were some Funk Brothers clips in We Like To Hurt People. Everything I've seen from Big Time TV has been clips from Japan.

  21. Yeah, I think the real point to is that Shawn and Razor would have had a great match without the ladder. You really can't say the same for the Hardys and crew. But choosing between the two perfect matches that happened at ten is like picking a favorite kid. One is the best opener, the other is the best gimmick match in Mania history.
  22. I'm starting a new monthly thread series here on PWO where every month we will focus on a different gimmick match. Discuss your favorite matches involving the gimmick, how the stipulation has evolved over time, pros/cons, positives and negatives and try to predict where they will stand in the future. This month's featured Gimmick Match will be the Lumberjack Match. from Wikipedia: What do you think of the dreaded Lumberjack Match?
