Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
peachchaos replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
People remember wrestlers for their look and entrance and rarely for their work. Has nothing to do with longevity since those people haven't tuned in since The Era. Glenn is solid. For someone his size he can move and when he was younger he did some truly impressive stuff. The problem is he never got a chance to shine in any of his gimmicks since he was emulating either Kevin Nash or Zombie Undertaker his entire career. Also, there's certainly no need for a monster heel to be over-exposed on 250 dates a year. If he had done a few isolated runs instead of being on TV 52 weeks a year, I think he'd have stayed fresher and would be seen in a better light. Tough to defend his career in it's entirety though. The song, the gear, the size, and the entrance are the things that make him memorable. Plus, Pete Rose. -
It’s not even just “make ‘em wait” that kills the entertainment value of this all. It’s the stuff they just flat out abandon with no explanation: “Original Plans for the Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade Feud The original plan for the feud was to have a mask vs. hair match but the idea ended up falling by the wayside.”

Yeah, I'm assuming all of the info around this time came from Kevin Sullivan and he either got the story all mixed up or told Dave to print it as if it came from a reader.

WWE TV 03/18 - 03/24: Sal Bellomo ate Bologna in a Balloon

The build to Orton-Styles has been so good that I don't think it really matters who wins. If Orton goes over it's just to put more heat on him and AJ stays hot with sympathy. It's their ideal 50/50 booking realized. Wouldn't be shocked to see a <18 seconds match with an RKO outta nowhere since they seem content to just run past angles again. -

Wouldn't mind seeing more from Jinder in that capacity...working base for midcard flyers. Could be a solid gig for him. -

I think they've both always just been told "be yourself" when they need to be told "be a wrestler". -

That was actually really good. Sasha and Bayley are nowhere close to the vets on the mic, though. -

Okay, let's chillax. Angle cannot work a 30 minute match. Pretty sure he can't even work a 10 minute match. I'm not a Corbin fan at all, but he is a Name they have been pushing for a year and is consistently over at house shows (as a face). Like, he's one of the big attractions for the people we like to refer to as "casual fans" since they're not part of this bubble. In terms of the TV and creative, it also makes sense. Not what I would have booked, but it's fine since Angle is faded glory at this stage. The Chicago crowd chanting for Cena was something to behold. Time really is a flat circle. -

The original report not coming from a valid source or even being complete bullshit does not change the fact that Dave reported Lex Luger, Crush, and Mabel as possibilities in the 7/1 issue and then said he thought Hogan was the most likely the next week. Even if it was just a wild guess and he got lucky, he actually got it right. Listening to the complete run of 83 Weeks at the moment and it's pretty obvious this "Mabel Was The Third Man" thing is just another Conrad rib to sell merch. I mean, Mabel is no more ridiculous a choice as Crush. When Bischoff learns that Meltzer actually did report Hogan, he's apologetic and gives him credit. But the meme is alive so Twitter gonna troll, I guess. Actually it's pretty incredible the amount of stuff Bischoff debunks, to the point where it changes entire narratives we've held as gospel truth as fans. Also, Bischoff said Hogan pitched the idea of being the third man on the set of Santa With Muscles. There most likely wouldn't have been another shoot within that same timeframe, especially with Hogan taking wrestling dates in July. But even the idea of an unreleased Gary Busey + Roddy Piper + Hulk Hogan movie is magical.

They've probably ran a broadway successfully since, but the result of Taven-Lethal gave me flashbacks to Final Battle '09. No thanks.

Why is it so hard for people to imagine Mabel as a possibility for the 3rd man? Part of what made the angle so successful at the time was that you were expecting another shitty 1995 WWF star and got swerved. Anyway, Dave clearly reported two week before the show that Mabel, Lex, and Crush were all in consideration and in the next issue states he's leaning toward Hogan:

Daniel Bryan as a star post-comeback: Pushes, Feuds, Matches and etc.

It's the "holier than thou" attitude and shoving his philosophy down the viewers throats that's supposed to get the heat, not the actual content of his beliefs. It makes it even better that his beliefs are pretty much harmless on their own. But yeah, if he didn't prop his ego on his ideals he'd be a babyface here in uber progressive Madison, WI. -
https://www.facebook.com/AJPWClassics/ They're basically uploading the entire All Japan Archive. Haven't seen anything new yet and don't anticipate to, but it's a fun group nonetheless. There's been a lot of new Japanese finds in the Village Green, however.

Not sure if anyone will get any milage out of this, but the other day I realized The New Daniel Bryan is basically Straight Edge Savior CM Punk without the religious overtones. -

Mexico wouldn't exactly be "overseas" and I can't imagine anyone caring if they went there anyway. Have they done Europe lately?

Also Harlem Heat and Money Inc. both peaked with their Hogan feuds (that subsequently didn't draw and nobody cared about). I wouldn't want a Hall of Fame with Money Inc. inducted either. Is William Regal in this thing yet? Now he was legitimately great during that period of WCW where most everything stunk until Nitro lit it up. Memorable for his comedic role. Influenced a generation of talent and eventually worked directly with them. Overcame addiction and substance issues. An inspiration.

WWE TV 03/11 - 03/17: Exposing civilians by fabricating lies
peachchaos replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
It's insane really. I remember running thru the fantasy booking scenario of Kofi winning during the Rumble, and even just 3 months ago it seemed super silly. But here we are now and the same billionaire promotor who got worked into restarting the XFL has also successfully not only convinced his audience to cheer for Kofi Kingston like he is Daniel Bryan but cheer for him like he is Daniel Bryan while also wanting him to beat Daniel Bryan. It's like if Bischoff had suddenly decided to put Stevie Ray over Chris Benoit at Starrcade but somehow it was awesome and you couldn't wait to see fucking Stevie Ray win the big one. At this point I think ending the show with anything but Kofi going over is gonna be anticlimatic. Noticed the Twitter poll didn't give this as an option for the closer, though. Anyway, this is the most I've paid attention for years, so they're doing something right.
