Bryan comes out still in the neck brace to address his match with Kane. He says that protecting family is a priority for everyone in the arena. He was not happy that Kane put his hands on his wife. He got pretty fired up talking about the match at Extreme Rules. Kane comes on the screen and plays a video showing his attack from a few weeks ago. This video could have been so much cooler if it showed all the times Kane has attacked Bryan over the years. Kane laughs a lot. Pretty average segment leading up to Extreme Rules.

Not much here. It only went a few minutes before RVD pinned Swagger. Cesaro, who was at the commentary table with Heyman, attacked RVD after. Mostly to set up the just announced three-way at Extreme Rules.

Typical WWE comedy. A lot of short jokes. I chuckled when Torito threw the pen aside and made a print on the contract with his foot instead. Vicki was as annoying as ever. They started brawling on top of the table, Torito gored Swoggle into Jinder who took a bump to the outside. Torito did a big dive onto 3MB. Goofy, but the WeeLC Match will probaby be fun.

[1981-04-06-WWF-MSG, NY] Bob Backlund vs Stan Hansen (Cage)
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 1981
It takes a while for Backlund to come out, Hansen is in the ring losing his mind, ready to go. Backlund enters and we are on! Brawl to start, Backlund hits a piledriver a few minutes in and tries to climb out. He leaves his back to Hansen and suffers a huge low blow. Hansen immediately misses an elbow and Backlund is right back in control. He throws Hansen into the cage repeatedly, busting him open. Hansen tries to climb out, Backlund pulls him down and Hansen's head bounces off the buckle. Backlund is able to walk out of the cage and straight to the back. The crowd goes wild and Hansen screaming bloody murder in the cage. Hansen got surprisingly little offense in, he couldn't string more then four moves together without Backlund getting control again. The way Hansen was still standing in the ring post match, I thought maybe they were leaving things open for a "Last Man Standing" type match but it looks like this was the blow off. -
[1981-04-06-WWF-MSG, NY] Sgt. Slaughter vs Pat Patterson
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 1981
Patterson was really itching to get his hands on Slaughter. I did some googling, looks like Slaughter beat Patterson down quite brutally after Patterson nearly broke the Cobra Clutch during a televised "Cobra Clutch Challenge" deal. Slaughter kept running from Patterson, then tried to sneak up on him from behind but got caught. Patterson went nuts on Slaughter, with Slaughter bumping all over the place. Slaughter sidestepped an oncoming Patterson who went flying out of the ring. We had this extended sequence where Slaughter would leave the ring and give Patterson a stomp or throw him into the ring post, then get back in the ring and rile up the crowd. Slaughter missed a kneedrop off the ropes then got put in a Figure-4. Patterson was really feeling it and had Slaughter cowering in the corner. The ref was struggling to get control of the match and both guys kept shoving him to the mat. He put up with this a few times before finally calling a Double DQ after Slaughter broke a Cobra Clutch to kick him in the gut. Just great heeling from Slaughter throughout. He had zero redeeming qualities here and it felt like there was no way he could compete with Patterson in an even fight. He made look like a million bucks. The Double DQ wasn't the most satisfying finish but the closing brawl was pretty wild and left you wanting more. -
Sheamus took a wild bump over the top rope as he collided with Eric Rowan. He got up fairly quickly but it looked rough. Later, a hot tag was made to an Uso and he ran wild. Missed a tag to Bray who hit Sister Abigail for the clean win. That move doesn't really strike me as an "out of nowhere" move to surprise with. The Uso sat there for a few seconds just waiting. Afterwards, the Wyatts were celebrating outside when the other Uso came flying at them with a dive. Bray threw him in the barrier and sidestepped an oncoming Sheamus who then got beat down. Good match (and postmatch) for Bray to have some momentum going in to Extreme Rules. Also looks Harper & Rowan are being built as the next challengers for the tag titles.

[1978-03-25-WWWF-Philadelphia, PA] Bob Backlund vs Spiros Arion
xlynwoodx replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in March 1978
I had never watched Backlund from this era and I don't think I've ever even heard of Arion before. Backlund looked in great shape. This was pretty fun, I liked Backlund's energy when they were on the mat. The waistlock sequence showed his wrestling skill. There was another time where he was doing a rowboat maneuver, pulling on Arion's leg that got the crowd fired up. Arion was a brawler mostly, he removed a turnbuckle pad that Backlund ended up sending Arion into twice. I was surprised the ref allowed it. Backlund hits Arion with a huge Atomic Drop but Arion boots the ref in the jaw as he goes up. The ref gets knocked down and rolls out of the ring. A brawl ensues and a double DQ is called. Weird decision. I guess they were setting up a rematch. Would've liked to see Backlund go over, the crowd was really into him. -
[2014-04-28-WWE-Raw] The Shield, Evolution and Ric Flair
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
The Shield and Evolution are facing off in the ring when Ric Flair's music hits. He hugs Evolution, talks about his days running around with them. He says he is in the ring surrounded by guys that exemplify power, style, and grace, then swerves us and says he is talking about The Shield. He shakes their hands and leaves. Everyone is confused. Was Ric drunk? Reigns v. Orton follows. They have a short match, HHH grabs Reigns's leg and chaos ensues. Ambrose and Rollins attack Hunter and Batista. Ambrose goes flying over the announce table, Rollins takes a bump into the barrier. Evolution has the upper hand until Rollins comes flying in out of nowhere with a kick to Hunter's face. Hunter takes a weak looking spear but escapes the triple powerbomb. This was a pretty hot finish to Raw, looking forward to a fun brawl at Extreme Rules. -
[2014-04-28-WWE-Raw] Bad News Barrett vs Rob Van Dam
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
Kind of an smusing line to start, Barrett says the WWE slogan is "Then...Now...Forever," Rob's slogan should just be "Then." I liked the match a lot. RVD was able to hit all of his signature moves, but Barrett would regain control by just socking him in the mouth. It looked like Van Dam's mouth got busted open. Cesaro came out to distract RVD, it took two tries but Barrett got the pin after the Bull Hammer. Barrett gets the IC shot at Extreme Rules. -
Cena needed some time after the choir serenaded him to start the show. He cuts his go-home babyface promo for Extreme Rules. It starts off talking about buying Bray a donkey named Gluteus and by the end, felt like a rejected Rock promo. After the past few weeks of Bray "converting" the Universe away from Cena, John doesn't seem very fazed by it.

Paige doesn't even get an entrance. The two minutes they had was decent enough. Paige lets out three primal screams in this time, hits Brie with a Superplex, then Kane's fire goes off while both are down. Kane comes out from under the ring and grabs Brie, Bryan fights back and sells every bump like his neck is broken. He gets a wrench from under the ring and wallops Kane. Kane sits up and chokeslams Bryan. Brie had gotten out of the ring too soon, gets back in the ring and has to run from Kane again. She escapes, and helps Bryan to the back. Kane sets off his fire again. Not really a match, but a go-home angle for Extreme Rules. Kane is back to his old monster self for the first time in a while, brought on by the Authority. Bryan is injured as has to defend his title against the Demon. I know Bryan v. Kane at Extreme Rules wasn't a popular match when it was booked but I'm into it.

[2014-04-28-WWE-Raw] Stephanie McMahon, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
Stephanie comes out to apologize to Daniel and Brie for Kane's attack last week. Bryan, in a neck brace, says that Steph is full of crap. Steph says that Kane "became the demon." I guess she forgot a few weeks ago where she came Kane back his mask. Steph talks about being the wife of a wrestler, riding in ambulances and sleeping next to their hospital bed. A wife should not have to see her husband that way. Bryan still thinks she is full of crap. He knows that Steph can sic Kane on him with the snap of her fingers. If Daniel is going down, he is taking Kane down with him. Steph then books Brie in a Diva's Title match with Paige. Steph does a great job coming across as sincere, Bryan doesn't trust her one bit. -
The go back-and-forth a few minutes. Zeb grabs Cesaro's leg as he comes off the ropes, Heyman waddles around the ring and attacks Zeb from behind. This distracts Swagger allowing Cesaro to hit a beautiful German Suplex for the pin. There is no heat between these two.

[2014-04-28-WWE-Raw] Dolph Ziggler, Hugh Jackman and Damien Sandow
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
Dolph Ziggler brings out Hugh Jackman to promote a new X-Men movie. This was a throwback to the Raw guest host days. Damian Sandow comes out dressed as Dollar Store Magneto, Hugh Jackman hiptosses him to the mat. Waste of time, even my kid hated it. -
They took all the former Adam Rose vignettes and made a "Best Of." He's coming to Raw next week. I wish they had done some more stuff to hype him up, the vignettes got pretty stale.

Cena is inside a cage. He wants to ask the Universe "Why?" Like we haven't spent the last few years with half the crowd chanting Cena Sucks, he's now surprised he was voted into a 3v1 match against the Wyatt Family. The lights go out and we start to hear a child singing "He's Got the Whole Word in His Hands." There are 25-30 kids on the stage singing. Bray comes out and starts leading them to the ring. They surround the ring and the lights come out again. When they come back on, they all have a sheep mask on. Cena is silent in the cage. Bray laughs to commercial. This was pretty creepy actually.

Ephesto and Valiente started the dives shortly after Valiente nailed Ephesto with a huge forearm to the butt. The timing on Ephesto's tope was spectacular, he hit Valiente a split second after he turned around. I was impressed with so many of the dives, the guys were not just jumping onto their opponent, they were diving through them and really utilizing the barrier as a weapon in these moments. I'm sure this is somewhat common in lucha, but as a novice it really stood out. Long-haired skinny guy Rey Cometa gave me some old school Lightning Kid vibes. He hit a pretty crazy dive, took a sick bump off a superkick, and got submitted to a crazy lucha submission. Another guy that impressed me was the barrel-chested Valiente. This dude would fly out of the ring like a cannonball. He also hit this cool-looking Tombstone into a jawbreaker move that killed Puma. He got eliminated after Averno and Mephisto decided to start double-teaming some guys. This left Stuka on his own. He got his mask torn up by the rudos before rolling up Averno in one of those cool moments where the heel celebrates with his back to the action while his partner is getting pinned. At this point I am all for Stuka fighting back against these dastardly guys as his mask is hanging in tatters off his face. They battled for a while, Stuka took some damage and kept kicking out, surprising even the ref. He finally hit piledriver move to get the pin, knocking his own mask off in the process. I've always had a hard time getting into lucha, but this was a lot of fun.

This match was announced as an 11 on 3 match at the start of the show. There was a show long storyline of the Shield attacking guys to take them out of the match that was a lot of fun. They beat up Swagger after his match against Cesaro. They destroyed 3MB backstage, then Brad Maddox, who had been sent to Smackdown to take over for Vickie. Ambrose diving onto Maddox was hilarious. They also attacked Fandango before his match and triple-powerbombed him off the stage onto some tables. Finally, as the heels were coming to the ring, it was announced that Curtis Axel was "found decimated backstage." By the time the match began, it had gone from 11v3 to 6v3. The heels worked on Ambrose for a while. Ryback got to show off his power, throwing Rollins and Ambrose around. Things broke down after Ambrose tagged out. The Shield thrive in the chaotic situations, and began destroying guys all over the place. ADR and Barrett tried to leave but Reigns runs through the crowd and attacks ADR with a huge Superman punch on the stage. Barrett escaped unscathed, which was good since he seems to be in line for the IC title in a few weeks. Sandow takes the pin after a spear, and Ryback eats a huge triple powerbomb after. The Shield are so amazing in these wild brawls.

[2014-04-25-WWE-Smackdown] Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs Luke Harper & Erick Rowan
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
The Wyats beat down on Cody for a while, Bray gets on the mic and asks the crowd if they are impressed. Goldust comes in and I was pretty amazed at how fast he moves around the ring still. He looked great taking the hot tag. Cody climbs to the top rope to dive to the outside but Harper pushes Goldust into the corner. Cody splatters into the barrier and Goldust eats a huge lariat for the pin. The breakup of the Rhodes boys continues... -
Bray comes out with Rowan and Harper and cuts a promo inside a cage. Rowan and Harper look rather creepy standing right along the front of the cage. Bray talks about love, and how those who are loved the most have all the power. He asks Cena how can he be loved if the fans voted for an unfair fight for Cena on Monday. Bray climbs to the top of the cage and sings his song.

Short package on Paige. Included bits from her sitdown with Michael Cole. I always like the sitdowns they film with Cole. Nice to see them featured on television.

Smackdown kicked off with a black screen and Vicki Guerrero screeching. We then have a debate between Heyman and Colter with Vickie moderating. Zeb just wants to know why Heyman stole Cesaro from him, Heyman chooses to rant again about Brock Lesnar defeating the streak. He eventually starts a new rant about his client, Cesaro, winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. This was a nice change that focused on Cesaro at least. This devolved into insults and the two started pushing each other around. Zeb is always gold, so I loved this. After a commercial break, Cesaro and Swagger have a match. It went back and forth for a while. Cesaro was hitting uppercuts from everywhere, I love how he is the only guy doing them and he can hit them in any situation. He uses the swing on Swagger then the Neutralizer for the pin. The swing is weird, Cesaro feels like a heel 95% of the time, but this one move gets the crowd cheering him like a babyface.

Liger tried to shake hands to start and was denied so he kicked Samurai in the face, knocking him silly. Liger was super aggressive to start as a result, dropping a knee off the top rope and working in Samurai's left arm. Samurai did a great job selling the arm throughout the match. He would throw a lot of punches with his good arm to fight back. He hit Liger with a pair of awesome flip dives, Liger came back with a huge one of his own that nearly sent him over the guardrail. It looked like Liger was on his way to win when Samurai rolled him up out of nowhere and got the win and the title. Nice match that left me looking forward to a rematch.
