  1. One of his less out there promos. I mean, it's still out there, but you kind of get what he's going for anyway.
  2. Flair's ponytail is incredible. Great promo too, but that ponytail....
  3. Jake cuts a good promo again. My question is whether or not Vince knew he could stick Jake in garbage angles and he'd get them at least somewhat over.
  4. Damnit Cox. Now you have me thinking how incredible it would be for Atlas to come in as a heel in the Memphis side of USWA. Christ, him working a lengthy program with a babyface Lawler would be ludicrously good.
  5. Martel kills it here. Even if the matches suffer from him being a heel, the promos get a huge boost.
  6. Valiant and Lawler carry off their roles perfectly, but the crowd still won't boo him. Loved Valiant's "Go fish!" line.
  7. Valiant can't even keep Lawler a heel, which is making Lawler's heel run seem like it's got a short shelf-life. Fun stuff from Valiant though.
  8. I'm not entirely alone in thinking Lawler was getting a little too over for his own good here then. He's going to need to turn soon. There's no way we can pretend he's a heel very much longer like this. I knew as soon as they mentioned the 10 minute time limit we'd see overtime. But they executed it well and it gets across what needs to be gotten across.
  9. Seriously?!? The Pillman match hyped here is not on tape??? Well, we can imagine how amazing it was anyway. Good promo and Woman in 1990 is absolutely stunning. She still looks good in 1998-9, but you could see how the industry had worn her down a little bit. Here she is just gorgeous.
  10. Great re-intro for Hogan after the loss. It takes all of the negative stuff that could come out of the loss to Warrior and disproves it in one nice, compact package. Hogan's reaction to the crowd is exceptional, as mentioned above. Never been a fan, but Hogan does really well with this. Brother Love brings it as well, introducing the fallen hero Hogan as fanatically as you could hope for.
  11. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, Tenryu. Baba, for all his nice guy routine, was not a guy you wanted to piss off.
  12. I can see the complaints that it's never going to work, making Rude a serious challenger. But you know what, these promos are absolute gold. Rude and Heenan carry off their roles perfectly. Mainly I think this kind of thing could have worked (if he could have pulled it off) for Luger in the NWA. A more serious, less cartoony promotion would have gotten way more mileage out of this kind of deal.
  13. I can see the comparisons with Borne and Piper. It's this still-there-but-crazy-enough sense that you know can't be good for the opponent. And Borne does a great job of not yet being full-on heel. He's just overly ambitious at this point, so he may still turn it around (good luck with that). And yeah, fuck Kevin von Erich. If I never see him wrestle again it will make me a happy man.
  14. Man, those sure look like awesome lenses. Young gets really frustrated too. Break damn you!!
  15. The cover of the song is distracting me from the awesomeness of the video package. Lawler as a heel is not fun to watch in full matches, but the snippets are good. Also, I want to see that slugfest with the Dutchman in full.
  16. Austin cuts a good promo, Adams is upset with his choice of women. Why Adams, the guy who has the temper, is walking away after that slap is beyond me. Austin and Jeannie are tight-lipped about her connection to Adams.
  17. Yeah, shame we don't get to see that match because now I want to. Gossett taking a beating from 4 guys seems like something worth watching. Also, could he get up to answer a 10 count after getting beaten up by one guy??
  18. Harts with a heel promo before the match? Not heels during except for the apron knee from Bret. Good, fast-paced tag. Demolition being at ringside ruins everything at the end. So all of these teams are babyfaces? That seems like some bad planning.
  19. Tito tripping over Perfect on the drop down made me remember something I'd once heard some pro wrestler say. The way the move was supposed to be executed was to dive at your opponent's legs and try to trip them. Curt was trained old school, as was Santana, so I'm guessing they were putting that one to use. Fun match between two guys who could go and didn't get much of a chance to anymore.
  20. I was thinking Perfect was a good guy to have as Hogan's first "big" opponent after Warrior. Big bumps and lots of stalling to make the Hulkster look good on national TV. That the outcome was never in doubt is probably not something that was considered in the planning.
  21. Great Nick Patrick spot for sure. Eaton really shines in this one. Hated the interference ending, but oh well. Thought Robert hit some really crisp stuff as well.
  22. Pillman is on fire early. Both Midnights are really great at making anybody look good, but Bobby is in another world so far on the set. And when the Midnights get on offense things actually pick up due to them still being cutting edge with their offense years later. Could have used more FIP on Pillman and less Zenk (always), but well worth the time.
  23. Not a big fan of heel Lawler matches, but this is passable. Just don't care for the whole schtick and agree with Loss and Pete on why. Maybe it IS laziness, or maybe it's just how heel Lawler put over all of the way-under-par guys he had to make look like real challenges. It worked to a point, but it wears on me nonetheless.
