I don't miss watching Raw or Smackdown. I don't miss the PPV's, or the documentary/reality tv original programming on the network. I don't even miss NXT. However, watching 80's wrestling in low quality video sourced from ancient taped-off-tv VHS tapes on Youtube for the last couple weeks make me really miss watching all the classic content on the Network. And I loved how all the full shows are sorted and in order on the Network. It made it so easy for, say, watching World Class from 1982 on, or going through the classic Coliseum Home Videos collection and checking out things that look interesting.

What was the greatest raw of the attitude era?
TheDuke replied to iamthedoctor's topic in Pro Wrestling
What was that Raw in fall 97 where Foley debuted as Cactus Jack for the first time on Raw for some kind of Street Fight against Triple H. I seem to remember that being a great episode at the time, although I don't remember right now what else happened. -
Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
TheDuke replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Yeah I stopped listening to this show as well. Episodes are too long about things I am not interested in. -
I read some of the 60's Fantasic Four and X-Men that Lee wrote earlier this year, and it felt a lot better than a lot of other stuff going on in comics around that time. I think Kelly you should bring back Imaginary Stories for a one time Stan Lee special.

Thank you guys for doing this fun series of Podcasts. I enjoyed it. I am interested in seeing what you are doing next.

I really enjoyed this. Forgive me for my ignorance of 1979 wrestling, but is this match more indicative of the New Japan style of wrestling in 1979, or the NWA Hollywood style? If it is typical of what New Japan matches looked like in 1979, I may have to watch more of them. I like this match a lot more than the 1979 All Japan matches I have seen. There is a lot of action, some mat wrestling, and more of a feeling that these guys really want to hurt each other. At least if felt that way to me.

I am surprised that Austin was already moving down the card in Fall 1999. My memories are always a bit hazy of what exactly the storylines in wrestling were in this period of 98-2001 because it seemed like there were heel and face turns and people jumping between companies every week. I remember being a fan with me and my friends at that time was less about reacting to booking and storylines, and more about just picking which wrestlers were your favorites and cheering them regardless of if they were heel or face or which show they were on. Actually, I feel like with most of WWE's crappy storylines and booking today, I am sure most current fans still just cheer their favorites regardless of what the storyline is supposed to be. I wonder if WCCW would have lasted longer if they had turned the Von Erich boys heel when business started to head downwards. I haven't watched much WCCW other than some of the 1982 stuff whenever I tried to follow along with the Ex-Titan Worldcast podcasts, but I feel like Johnny Sorrow made some really good points on that show about how some of the things the Von Erich's did looked, that could have been used for seeds for a heel turn.

Was there any report on what the Attendance was for Crown Jewel?

It's funny, I don't really follow the wrestling news now, other that what people post on this board. But I remember during the Monday Night Wars when I first went online I used to read a lot of these kind of wrestling news stories online. At the time, I always just took them at face value. But now, after listening to so many podcasts and reading so many shoot interviews and biographies, I read these and all I can think about is figuring out which wrestler it was who told that story to the newsletter writer.

I wonder what would happen if one of the wrestlers there got on the mic to do a promo, and instead started criticizing the Saudi Arabia regime? Like not as a wrestling promo, but as a serious critical speech? Obviously they would cut his mic off and take the camera off him, but I wonder what would happen after that point? A firing? Suspension? Would the crowd boo the wrestler? Could you imagine if the crowd cheered for the wrestler, or booed the Saudi government instead? Would the whole multi year deal be cancelled? Would the Saudi authorities get involved with the wrestler directly and arrest him? I know it is not likely one of their wrestlers would decide to go off script like that, but I am just trying to imagine how everyone else would react in a what if scenario.

I can't wait to listen to this. I love hearing you guys talk about 70's stuff.

I liked both the Orton/Hardy match, and the Charlotte/Becky Match. There was some rough stuff in both of them, but both of them also did something interesting, Which may be a symptom of lowered expectations watching modern WWE.

This was great as a kid. It was a moment where Hogan seemed like a real life hero that you could really believe in. Wrestling seemed more fun to me as a child, as I really was worried Hogan might lose or get hurt, and really wanted to see him win. I don't tend to feel those same kind of emotions watching wrestling as an adult except for maybe a few exceptions which are few and far between, and that makes wrestling over all a little less enjoyable for me. The promo itself is the best part of this. The angle at the end with Bravo, Earthquake, and Tugboat coming is a little disappointing as there is no actual violence shown here. I hope WWE uploads more episodes of Prime Time going into the summer of 1990, as it would be fun I think to see the week to week promos of Tugboat and Jimmy Hart discussing Hogan's injury and comeback leading into Summerslam.

Thats interesting. I thought WWF only went to MSG once a month but they went twice in march that year. Did they skip the MSG show in Feb or April that year I wonder.

I was hoping Almas would get the US title so that whenever Gargano got called up to the main roster, he and Almas could have a rematch. Edit: And it be for a belt.

It will be interesting to see if you guys find the regular week to week tv better outside of the Freebirds after the Star Wars episodes.

Watching a couple of the segments last night really made the Raw locker room look a former NXT Tag Team Champion graveyard. With Authors of Pain, The Revival, and The Ascension, it looks like its where formerly pushed tag teams go to die. I am reminded of Jim Cornette's podcasts where he talked about in the OVW days he would come up with gimmicks for the guys and the main roster writers wouldn't use them. It seems like something similar is going on now where the NXT creative really push these tag teams going to the main roster, and when they get there the main writers are like "Huh? We don't want a dominant tag team or to use these guys like this." And then find a spot for them wrestling on Main Event or doing comedy spots and jobs on Raw.

I like the Bayley-Banks tag team. I enjoyed the match against the riott squad.

Aren't Pete Dunne and Tyler Bates both really young? Maybe in the 2020's we will see all the top wrestlers in the world come from Europe/UK.

Wow. Now I am scared to reorder the Network, because there is so much of my childhood was the fun of renting Coliseum videos from the local video store. I am worried I will become sucked into a vortex of watching old wrestling and will disappear from society for weeks at a time. This is great and they haven't even added the Hulkamania series yet. Did JCP or any of the territories release commercial VHS tapes with exclusive matches on them that weren't just what was shown on TV?

I really wish they would just upload some full episodes of Georgia. I assume they have them.

I like to pretend that when Triple H is spraying water, he is actually spraying a secret clear mist that gives him special powers.

Almost all the matches had the heel win. Some of the matches, like Lashley vs Roman, it wasn't clear who the face and heel was supposed to be. Rusev is supposed to be a heel but is cheered by a very vocal section of the crowd so it is not as happy a moment when AJ beats him. There has been like 2 steel cage matches this year where the face lost in a way that makes him look like an idiot for losing so the fans don't feel they can get behind them (Roman and Brock in Saudi Arabia is the other one). WWE has seemed to have been the hottest when they had a strong Babyface who refused to take crap from the heels and would just beat people up. I feel like Bruno, Hogan, and Austin all kind of had this in common. The heels would try to screw the face around, but the fans always knew in the end that the Mega Face would punish the opponent and show them who's boss. This is what Roman Reigns should have been, but they really screwed it up. They gave him cute catchphrases, they had Seth Rollins go over in that big Wrestlemania match with Brock, and they booked him against heels nobody really wanted to see him fight instead of building up opponents that the fans would really hate and want to see get beaten up. I kind of think Ronda Rousey may actually end up being that kind of star for them. I hope if they fans really get behind her they would be willing to make her matches the true main events of those cards. I also hope they don't derail her booking by thinking she has to "pay her dues" or whatever by losing a lot, or giving her weird character traits beyond just being an ass kicker.

Good episode. I think if they are cutting out adverts for upcoming house shows, I wish they would keep those in to help give a sense of what was going on in the company at the time and what sorts of matches were they expecting to draw in the local markets. I am pretty sure that in the 80's Crocket stuff they cut out the parts where Tony Schiavone runs down the dates and locations for all the upcoming house shows and what stars or matches were being promoted for those shows as I am sure I remember seeing that when I watched those Crockett TV shows before. You know, the Saito-Inoki Island Death Match might be a good unofficial Mystery Titans Theater episode. Its a bit of a slog to expect people to sit through on their own right now due to it's length and long periods of little to no action, but if we could hear you guys talk about the match and about Inoki and Saito in general, it may make it more worthwhile to sit through. That one may need to go on Daily Motion or be audio only though as I believe New Japan are big on taking stuff down off Youtube.
