  1. I remember loving this match when I went through the 90 YB. I love AA and Sawyer starting this off, and the look that Buzz gives him after the initial lockup. The hot tag to Sting sends the crowd into a frenzy! It's so awesome seeing Flair, AA, and Sting teaming together. The crowd is on fire for it. Sawyer plays his role perfectly. The heels feed to the crowd favorite Sting and keep the fans on their feet. Sting had major ups prior to his injury. He was super athletic and always bouncing and flying around. Flair's punches look super stiff on Dragon Master in the corner. I do think my favorite parts of the match come from the AA/Sawyer moments. They have good chemistry. AA is just the best at tags. You take a guy like Sting that he never teams with, and he works over the leg of Dragon Master to tag Sting in for the Scorpion. Maybe that's not a big deal at all, but I appreciate it anyway. Flair does great as the FIP. You can feel the tension in the crowd building for the hot tag. I guess since Flair is a face, he can hit the off the top rope chop to the head. Hot tag to Sting followed by a jump kick and drop kicks and then Stinger Splash. Finished off in true heel fashion with mist to the face by Muta. Awesome crowd/Fun TV match. Sawyer's splash after the bell looked awesome. Yep, I still love this match. #447 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-450-401/
  2. I couldn't agree with PeteF3 more. It actually kind of felt like one of the 80s brawls from Memphis in comparison to what you usually see with this type of match in WWF. It seemed more reckless with punches and kicks, and the spots did not feel planned out. HBK bashing the back of Mankind's head against the ringpost was pretty crazy. This had a super violent feel to it. The action was fast, and you got the added interference segment with a mean looking chairshot from Rude. Sweet Chin Music gets HBK the win. Really enjoyed this one. #449 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-450-401/
  3. Robocop definitely had better performances in my Federation than he did at Capital Combat.
  4. Totally one of the best tags I've ever seen. This match blew me away. The Funks continue age like fine wine for me. The more I watch, the higher they climb as all-time favorites. This match certainly is in that category. *****
  5. I know a guy who quit watching when WWE had the first brand split. He couldn't get over two world champions for the same company.
  6. I thought these guys were working hard here and ended up having a really fun and athletic match. It was borderline great to me, and I think I'd go **** on it.
  7. Yeah this was good, but not great. Pretty paint by numbers, but I thought it was fun.
  8. This was really awesome for as long as it lasted. The version I have may have been clipped a little bit. Terry's selling was off the charts!
  9. There are parts of this I loved, but also some parts I didn't like so much. I do think it was great. I loved the left arm work by Flair and Jumbo's selling of that. Flairs selling of fatigue and once he started trying to weaken the left leg for the figure four. Some of the moves didn't look very impactful, such as the piledrivers and elbow drop. And, when you see Flair motion for Jumbo to chop him over the top rope to the ground. I did enjoy it, those are just small things. I thought once Flair started bleeding the intensity level picked up. Good strategic wrestling. ****1/4
  10. Terry delivers a performance of a lifetime here - truly great. I thought his selling/performance was amazing and timeless the first time I saw this... but every time I watch I appreciate it more and more.
  11. Holy smokes, The KVE video before this thing is glorious! Eye of the Tiger. Shirtless horseback riding. Short shorts running. Pretty hilarious. They even do a slow motion fade from his eye into the actual eye of a tiger! I like how Tenryu goes after the right arm and hand to try and weaken the claw. The rest of the match sort of revolved around the claw. I didn't think this match was very good. Not for me anyway.
  12. I agree with what you said. Actually, with the footage I've been watching from this era, I've found Harley much more annoying and arrogant than Brody. At least Brody looks intimidating. This was geat, and yeah mostly thanks to Terry. ****
  13. Off the top of my head, I think I actually like Edge/Taker better than the second Brock/Taker. I think this one is the best one that Undertaker is not in.
  14. I've always loved this match. I really want to watch it again after reading your review, because I always felt like I was one of the few people that would bring it up in great match conversations. Last time I watched it, I think I was about at ****1/2 too (edit: I am at ****3/4). The top 3 HIACs in my opinion are HBK/Taker (1) then Brock/Taker (1st one) and this one. I do think the last Brock/Taker was probably around ****, but not in the same league as those three.
  15. I had tons of fun watching this, but sort of got the same feeling about the discus punches.
  16. Hell yes. I absolutely loved this. How awesome is it Hansen catches the chair Funk throws into the ring - then nails him with it. The feeling of the entire match in general is just so intense and insane. Sleeze really cracked me up with the Revenant reference ha.
  17. Jumbo is the glue, and Harley has a hard time selling for him. There's one point where he puts Jumbo up for a piledriver and holds it for a solid 20 seconds and poses to each side of the crowd like he's Hogan doing the ear thing. It came across pretty arrogant to me. I feel like Harley did a lot of things in the match that you might hear as a gripe for Brody. It really is a bummer Harley took the win after being so dominating. The crowd was hyped for Jumbo and it only makes sense he would win after firing back, but Harley didn't make much sense here anyway. I can agree with *** just because of Jumbo.
  18. I just happened to stumble on this while looking at something else. I really need to see this...
  19. Yeah, the brawl at the end is really much more entertaining than the match. Then we get the restart and it's pretty awesome. They take it the outside and it gets out of control. Blood, stiff punches, nearfalls, yes! This turned out be really good.
  20. Muta does some good stalling to build some heat, and then that heats builds into a fireball explosion of offense onto Tenryu. Muta's offense looks very stiff and crisp. We get a sharp object, some blood, and a table spot. Muta continues to pick Tenryu apart at ringside. Tenryu is a bloody mess, and looks very fatigued. I guess they play on that when Muta no sells some hope spots from Tenryu. Tenryu finally gets his attention with some stiff chops and a lariat. LOVE the punches Tenryu starts throwing out. Muta gets Tenryu with the mist dodging a chairshot. Which in turn, he delivers to Tenryu. It looks like Muta is painting a shirt with Tenryu's blood! This was tons of fun - **** #450 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-450-401/
  21. Hashimoto's striking looks great. I didn't like how they no sold the DDT early on, but I never really like it when a DDT is no sold. Hashi's leg strikes look so brutal, so it makes total sense for them to go after his legs. The crowd is hot. Yamazaki does a great job selling the ribs/back. Hashi delivers one stiff blow after another, and his (Yamazaki) selling really sucked me into the feel of the match. Hashi really does come across like a beast in this match, and his offense is full of fire, but I think my MVP award might go to Yamazaki for this one. This was great. **** #451 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  22. This match starts off at an incredible pace. I like the chemistry between Steamboat and Austin. I liked Pillman trying to fake the knee injury. If I remember correctly, this is a callback from a recent match where he pulled out a victory that way. Love the teamwork, that had already developed at this point, established here with Austin and Pillman. Such as - Steamboat goes for a suplex to the outside, but Austin saves Pillman with a little sidekick to keep it from happening. There are other nicely timed spots between the two of them throughout the match. Douglas does get pretty fired up after the hot tag, but I saw it as really good, or standard. His performance didn't really blow me away. ***1/2 #452 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  23. I love the story they are telling when this starts off. Backlund is very aggressive, and Hart is trying to figure out the situation. I enjoyed the left armwork from Bret, Backlund sells it well, and him rolling it into a nearfall was a great. I liked the headbutt trading. They sold it just right. I've seen matches where headbutts are treated like KO's hockey punches today. They really took the time to put each movement over. This is a really good match, but for me it's the angle at the end that makes it memorable. #453 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  24. I don't think I've watched this since the actual PPV. This has tons of intensity. Owen getting slammed into the wall looked vicious! You hear stories about wrestlers working fixed fights in the back of bars back in the day. I wonder if any of them were ever this good? Lawler is laughing when Shamrock is getting his head bashed into a wall - not sure why.... looked awesome. The punches look great, and I guess they would have to in this setting to really get it over. I commend them both for wanting to make this as real and entertaining as possible. Owen is fantastic with his selling, and I think Shamrock may be one of the best guys you can put in a setting like this and make it successful. I loved this. #454 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
