  1. Nice. Manchurian Candidate. But all TV influences us. Trains might not be the best verb. Like you watch a shitty sitcom, we laugh when the laugh track happens at some shitty joke. Why? I have no fucking idea, we just do. With wrestling from the time you are little you taught to boo the bad guy and cheer the good guy just like in your cartoon and comic books. But when it becomes obvious that what the company really wants is for you to cheer Roman Reigns, doesn't it seem counter productive to have the company's CEO and COO as the bad guys? Thats my point with Reigns. Lance Storm said something similar on a podcast only he was much more eloquent than I was about.

    WWE vs Lana

Isn't kayfabe totally dead though? I mean there is a show on the network that shows heels and faces riding in the same car! You can't fault an employees for exposing the business when you as a company are doing that sort of shit.
  3. I think they fucked Roman Reigns out of the gate when he won the Rumble. When it became obvious he was going to be the 2015 Rumble winner in like fall of 2014, fans started turning on him for the sole reason he wasn't Daniel Bryan. Christ when Rey Mysterio entered the 2014 Rumble at #30, he got booed for not being Daneil Bryan. The only way they could have gone back and unfucked it up was to have Daniel Bryan have one either the 2014 or the 2015 Rumble, or both. Reigns was really, really hot in 2013 and 2014, its just there was backlash because he wasn't the guy the people wanted in the main event. I also think the WWE has spent the past 20 years promoting itself and the people running the company as the heels. This isn't good for when you try to create a top new babyface because the fans will recognize that the company they have been booing for 20 years is trying to make some new guy a big deal, so the fans will just boo that guy because that is what we the fans have been trained to do. We've been trained to boo anybody the WWE puts support behind, which is incredibly counterintutive for the purpose of creating new babyfaces.
  4. I'm going to be the asshole here. I have a problem with all the intergender matches. It bothers me when a guy sells for a woman. It bothers me that a woman got 2 seperate 2 counts in a main event against Mil Muertes, who they spent season 1 building to their version of the Undertaker. That all bothers me. The opening vinegettes were cool, and the post main event angle was awesome. But the main event and the 3 way were logic defying drizzling shits. And I wasn't wild about the opener either....
  5. This entire thread reminds me of the Seinfeld "not that there is anything wrong with that" bit
  6. I would very much like to know- How much merch DX was moving circa 98-99, how much the nWo was moving 97-98, and how much CM Punk was moving 2011-2012? WWE hypes DX in their own history so much, nWo was so such a big deal, and supposedly Punk was outselling Cena those years.
  7. Anybody else have verizon vios? El Rey seems to be burried very deep in my cable package and I'm having a hard time finding it.
  8. I am going to defend Sandman, Dreamer and Balls. All 3 of them were pretty good promos. That went a long way. In fact Sandman was a hell of a promo. Also all 3 had awesome gimmicks. And Balls was surprising agile for a guy his size. All 3 had something to offer somewhere on a card, especially in a company like ECW.
  9. Well I seriously doubt I have time to finish a list in time for the deadline, but if I did... Highest ranked Japanese wrestler- Tenryu. Maybe an outside shot at Kawada. Japanese wrestlers I'd probably rank (off the top of my head)- Tenryu, Kawada, Lyger, Misawa, Kobashi, Jumbo, Baba, Hashimoto, Kikuchi, Fujiwara, Fujinami, Choshu, Taue, Akiyama, Tamura, Yamazaki, Maeda, Sasuke, Tajiri, Noaya Ogawa, Nakamura, Sano, Hase, Inoki.... Christ there are probably another 15 to 20... 70s- Baba or Jumbo 80s- Tenryu probably 90s- Misawa or Kawada probably 00s- Kobashi probably, maybe Akiyama 10s- Nakamura Favorite Ace- Misawa Favorite Challenger- Kawada Favorite under the radar guy- I don't know what qualifies as under the radar. If you mean somebody who isn't going to get a lot of votes. Guys like Ogawa, Takada, and Onita for example. But they are all big names so I don't know. If you mean small time indy guys, maybe somebody out of BattlArts or some deathmatch guy would be on the borderline for me. Best peak- Misawa 91-95 ish Biggest disappointment- Inoki... people say watching 80s AJPW they were disappointed by how lazy Jumbo was at times, I found Inoki's laziness and lack of cooperation to be far more disappointing
  10. Jericho is also a good 20 pounds heavier than he was when he debuted in WWF.
  11. I thought the whole reason for bringing back Jericho and for bringing in Styles was because they had no heels for Reigns to work with. So why are the two of them wrestling each other and why are they both babyfaces?
  12. So this was my first time watching a PPV on the Network. There were technical problems a few times. And I was floored during the preshow match when they left the match for three minutes to advertise reality TV programs that would be on the Network. Between the match interuption, the 3 or 4 technical problems, and WWE missing Kofi's elimination, there were like 5 times where I was like "fuck this is why I never order PPVs, I'm calling VIOS to get my money back!" only to realize I was watching it for free.
  13. What amazes me the most about UFC is how it only takes them 3 or 4 fights over the course of a year or two in the company to turn a guy from nothing into a Main Event level draw. It takes boxers a dozen fights on HBO, Showtime, and ESPN over the course of 4 or 5 years until the guy is a PPV draw. WWE takes years of developmental, years of being pushed strong in the midcard on weekly TV, then a monster main event push on weekly TV for a guy to be a real draw. For WWE its a 3 to 4 year process to see return on their investment. But UFC, the guy does a fight on cable, then a fight on Fox, then an undercard on a PPV, then he headlines a fight on Fox, then he's ready to headline a PPV. It's a two year process if even until UFC sees a return on investment. They really are doing something right.
  14. Its so fucked. The title is meaningless. I'm looking forward to the Rumble just because its the Rumble and its free and Better Call Saul and GOT aren't back yet. First problem, 15 people on the current roster are "former World Champions" 15!!!!! Its like youth sports where everybody gets a trophy, thus taking away the importance of trophies. Second, 5 of the last 7 champions have lost the championship without being pinned or subimmiting. You can't vacate a title 3 times in two years, and have the champ lose without actually losing on the biggest show two years in a row and it not catch up eventually. If Reigns loses, that makes 6 of the last 8 champions to lose without losing.
  15. http://impactwrestling.com/aj-styles/ TNA is claiming on their website that they had a deal in place with Styles, Gallows, and Anderson and that they all backed out. I would need to see a copy of said agreement as well as video of all 3 wrestlers agreeing to said contract to believe that shit.

    NXT talk

Some merchandise should just not be made in 3XL. Case in point, Bayley's I'm a Hugger TShirt.

    WrestleMania 32

As for Nakamura, casual fans I talk to know about him. As for bringing in somebody from MMA or boxing, the only MMA guys that are a draw right now are Rousey and McGregor. And the only draws in boxing are Canelo, GGG (kind of), Mayweather, and Paquiao. Nobody on that list walks around at more than 175. The Mayweather vs
  18. The thing is though, they do have competition. NFL playoffs, Monday Night Football, college basketball, NBA, Sunday night shows on AMC, HBO, and Showtime, CMLL, Lucha Underground, etc. All of those are WWE's competition for my personal viewership. They all air at the same time as PPVs, Raw, Smackdown or NXT in my area, and all of those are better than WWE usually.
  19. had it here the entire run in the DC burbs.
  20. Its not as bad as when I was a kid an WWF had the Gobbledy Gooker and WCW had the Black Scorpion. Parts of the late 90s were pretty bad, but honestly two of my favorite WWF/E fueds all time are Mandkind vs Rock and Foley vs HHH.
  21. I would say right around 2000/2001 when everything was turning to shit. I was watching WWF and WCW. I had just started on ECW like in 99 when it finally got to my area so I was watching that die a slow agonizing death. I had just started following Japan and was diving head first into AJPW, NOAH, Toryumon, and FMW. I would venture to guess that if you ask anybody what year did you watch the most wrestling, it would be whatever year they in 8th or 9th grade.
  22. Just got the network with the 1 month free. So far have watched Starcade 83, some Midsouth and some ECW TV from Nov 95. People say Hardcore TV doesn't hold up, have to disagree, Cane Dewey is still as amazing as it was when I saw it over a decade ago.
  23. Blond Bombers (Patterson and Stevens version) I haven't seen them nominated. I would figure that they would be a top 10 tag team for sure. There isn't a lot of footage of them out there but what is available is pretty spectacular.
  24. The angle on the first NOAH show to set up the whole Burning vs Sterness fued was very good. I also liked the angle with Rhino and Sandman on ECW's last PPV. Its a shame the company folded a month later, that could have been a great set up to an exciting fued. Also this- I WANT BATISTA!!!
  25. Can somebody give me details on all the times Lesnar has been sued for breach of contract. I remember it happening several times, with pretty much every one of his employers except the UFC.
