My god, what a marvelous professional wrestling match! This was even better than their all-time great PWG classic from 2015 - you got Hero as the pissed off, big veteran bully & ZSJ as the pissed off technical wizard underdog. It made for such a great dynamic, and the story they told with Hero being a total dick to Zack, and Zack focusing on the ankle & mostly arm work. I have never seen ZSJ as fired up as he was in this match, and it was the perfect foil to Hero's trashtalking bully act. This was honestly nearly perfect. Somewhat overlooked when it comes to MOTYC's for the year. Easily the 2nd best match of the whole WM weekend - just behind Zayn vs. Nakamura. ****3/4

I remember being blown away by this match when I first watched it, but it was even better on a re-watch over a year later. Goddamn, what a match! The way the story in this progressed felt so natural - first it was a respectful grappling contest between two of the best technical wrestlers in PWG, then ZSJ starts targeting Hero's finger & Hero gets more and more pissed as the match goes on. Then it goes to the underdog formula with Hero bullying & beating the shit out of ZSJ, while ZSJ digs in deep to nail those brutal submissions, wacky pins & cool counters. This was an absolute clinic. ****3/4

[2010-07-30-PWG-Seven] Chris Hero vs Davey Richards
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in July 2010
This was definitely on it's way to becoming a great ****+ match, but then the last 10 or so minutes happened. What an absolute overkill with the nearfalls, and cringeworthy fighting spiritâ„¢ moments. The match was actually really good before those happened, with Davey & Hero just slugging it out for the most part, and some good leg psychology w/ Richards targeting Hero's leg. Hero sold it fine for the most part, but then he started doing Moonsaults and shrugging the leg work off - even though the leg work is indeed what gave Davey the victory, Hero's selling was still spotty towards the end. Such a frustrating match. Seriously loved it before the last 10 minutes - which is when they went into that indy epic overkill mode. **1/2 -
Before I watched this, I went back & read reviews of this show, and the general consensus seemed to be that this was a good, 3*ish match, but nothing special, and maybe even a bit disappointing. Well, I thought that this was tremendous. Great styles clash with Hero as the more experienced, bigger guy, and PAC as the flippy underdog. Early on PAC showcased his highflying awesomeness, and because of that Hero started to ground him so he wouldn't be able to get him with all those sick flips. I thought that Hero did a great job working on top, and once it was time for PAC's big comeback, which was indeed quite flippy, he sold really well for the man. Some really good nearfalls in the finishing stretch too. Great match. ****

I remember feeling the same way when I watched Akira Hokuto vs. Shinobu Kandori from 04/02/93.

This was something else. I loved all the interactions between all 4 competitors - even Marufuji did a damn good job outside of few of those crappy superkicks. Marufuji vs. Meiko was fun, Meiko dodging those quick striking combinations of Marufuji was pretty damn great. Kana vs. Meiko was awesome, stiff exchanges between the 2. And then the main thing. My god. The interactions between Kana & Minoru goddamn Suzuki. Minoru is such an evil bastard, he wasn't taking this joshi lady seriously, no selling her strikes and just being MiSu. Once Kana nails him with a pretty low kick, he gets so angry, he beats the shit out of her. Kana tries to comeback, she lays some of her great looking offense to the baddest man around - only for him to put her down. This was SO wild. ****1/2 - ****3/4

This was great. Loved the early trash talk by Cole, which lead to an early shine by Kyle, which was just fantastic - he kicked Cole's ass all over the ring, and it was very enjoyable. Kyle controlled the early portions of the match, until Cole started to go after his knee - Cole's knee work was very good. Kyle countered that great tactic of Cole by going after his arm, and Kyle's arm work was a true joy to watch, he absolutely brutalized Cole's arm. Eventually they dropped the selling sadly, and the match essentially became a bombfest. I thought that this was great, but it could've been even greater had they not dropped the selling - that is a minor complaint about a great match though. 2nd best match they've had against each other behind the BITW '12 classic. ****

This was almost 50 minutes long, and for the first 20 minutes or so, it was so goddamn boring. I was ready to hate it, and I did hate the first half of it, it was truly awful; didn't feel any heat there, it was hollow, dull & straight up boring - but then they kicked it into the 2nd gear & basically went nuts - Kenny Omega in particular gave an outstanding performance (as expected). Very good match, but did not reach the ****+ great status because of the absolutely awful first half. ***3/4

I was in there front row to watch this, and I am glad that on tape it came off just as great as it was live. StarBuck & Valentine are 2 of the best wrestlers in Finnish wrestling history, and their rivalry is my favorite rivalry in Finnish graps history. They have a tremendous chemistry with each other, as seen on this match. Loved the early fire of 'Buck with him just totally wanting to kick Valentine's ass because their rivalry had got personal at the last show, Valentine was fantastic as always on his role as the chickenshit heel. Loved Buck's early shine - he has some damn good looking worked punches, and Valentine is a great seller. It eventually transitioned into Valentine doing work on top, which was great. Really the only negative thing I have to say about this is StarBuck shrugging off Valentine's arm work, but it didn't bother me that much, as he didn't end up using his arm that much - a minor complaint about a great match. ****

It is very fitting that in his last NXT match quite possibly ever, Finn Bálor put on the best performance of his career. His work was really damn great in this, I loved all of his work on top, his mannerisms & the leg work was awesome. Shinsuke was Shinsuke, he was pretty awesome, I only wish that he had sold the leg work a bit better, but then again the spotty selling was expected because it was Shinskay. It didn't really bother me THAT MUCH though, as I still loved the match & because his selling with his facial expressions is always great + his initial selling is really great too, but it's just that he forgets about the work done on his leg to do his usual leg/knee based offense. And because of that, I really can't call this match 'great' - had Nakamura been better with his long-term selling it could've been great. It was still very, very, very good though. ***3/4

First time I had ever seen Dash & Dawson in action, and they put on really good performances - you could see that they had a good thing already back then. The psychology of Bálor's leg was wonderful, and Bálor sold it really, really well. The best tag match on the show for sure. ***1/2

This was very fun. Some good interactions between the New Beginning big match up opponents, such as Ishii trading some stiff strikes with Makabe & Honma, Goto & Juice having some nice sequences, and then my favorite part: Shibata & Ospreay having an absolutely amazing opening sequence. ***1/2

Talk about wacky looking match ups on paper... Tenryu vs. Hogan sure is one of them, but they put on a legitimately amazing, classic match. Thought that this had a fantastic sense of urgency, loved the early exchanges with Hogan busting out some awesome stuff, the middle with them slugging it out, the brief leg work by Tenryu, which Hogan sold quite well, the bomb throwing. This ruled. ****1/2

I had high expectations for this match, and I sure was not disappointed. The Phenomenal One & The King of Strong Style put on a show. Great sequences, awesome counters, good psychology. The moment after the match where both guys showed respect to each other was absolutely amazing as well. Brilliant match. ****1/2

[2016-01-24-NJPW-Fantasticamania] Dragon Lee vs Kamaitachi
ShittyLittleBoots replied to cactus's topic in January 2016
Really good match. Fast paced action from start to finish. I did like Kamaitachi going after Dragon Lee's knee/leg, and if Dragon Lee had sold it better and if it had come into the play in the finish, this could've been a legit ****+ MOTYC. While it was not that, it was still a VERY good match. ***1/2 -
When I first watched this, I thought it was "just" very good, but my god, after a re-watch, my appreciation for this match went super high. Masterful storytelling + hard hitting action. Everyone was on point with their performances, but Chris Hero was on another level. What a performance by the best wrestler in the world. Just absolutely brilliant. ****3/4

[2016-01-24-EVOLVE 55] Matthew Riddle vs Tracy Williams
ShittyLittleBoots replied to GOTNW's topic in January 2016
This was essentially just the two Catch Point mates in Matt Riddle & Tracy Williams destroying each other with everything they got. Grappling, submissions, counters, strikes, big moves. Great stuff all around. ****1/4- 1 reply

[2009-11-15-TNA-Turning Point] Desmond Wolfe vs Kurt Angle
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in November 2009
Great match. Nigel's performance was so damn good, and that doesn't surprise me as the guy was one of the very best wrestlers in the world in 2009. Kurt Angle's performance on the other hand was, well, typical Kurt Angle, really. He did his usual stuff, but him also totally no selling the arm work done by Wolfe totally annoyed me. Had Angle sold the arm work better, this could've been a classic, but even with Kurt's shitty selling here, this was still GREAT. Hats off to Nigel as he managed to get a legit great match out of Angle, even with Angle's performance being not-really-good. Great stuff. ****- 2 replies

This was such an awesome, bloody brutal brawl. The ending was quite confusing though, and ended up dragging the match down a bit for me. ****1/4

Watching this you can really see why WWE signed Sombra. He came off as one of the most charismatic dudes in wrestling here - totally loved his swagger. This told a very good story of him being the younger, faster & more athletic of the 2, and Atlantis being the crafty veteran. While Atlantis was really solid, I thought that, for the most part, this was a total La Sombra show, and a damn great show at that. ****1/4

This is a good example of a match that gets elevated by the outstanding drama & super crowd heat. I thought that Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero were having a pretty solid match all the way though, but what puts it over the top as a borderline great match is the well done drama & the absolutely amazing atmosphere that the 2 created. ***3/4

[2008-11-03-AJPW] Naomichi Marufuji vs Shuji Kondo
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in November 2008
If you're a fan of Marufuji's matches vs. KENTA, check this one out, because it was quite similar. To put it simply, it was an overly long, bad spotfest. It actually could've been okay had they kept it shorter, but it going almost 40 minutes is an absolute overkill. They just basically threw bombs at each other and then shrug it off after they got their big spot in. Not my kind of pro graps. *- 4 replies
