  1. Agreed with your rating. Good match, it was heading towards the ***1/2+ territory for me, but then Pentagon started no selling pretty much everything.
  2. Outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. This was even better on a re-watch; just a masterful performance by The Brian Kendrick - full of emotion, his strategy of trying to work over the neck of Ibushi was wonderful, and he executed it to perfection through his work, facial expressions, desperation. Ibushi was really good in his role as the unstoppable favorite juggernaut too. My favorite match of the CWC. ****3/4
  3. The weakest match of their trilogy, but it was still very good. The opening sequences were awesome, then it transitioned into Okada working top, and it was very enjoyable - what made it better is that Okada worked over Ibushi's neck throughout the match to prepare for the Rainmaker, and it paid off in the end. Very good stuff. ***1/2
  4. An absolutely outstanding all action spotfest. The first few minutes were meh, but once they started going balls to the walls, my god this got awesome. ****1/2
  5. Fantastic match w/ a fantastic AJ Styles performance. He wrestled it with such a sense of desperation, and as a result we got what is the best Randy Orton match since his February 2014 match vs. Daniel Bryan. Really just loved everything about this - the finish was absolutely incredible, reminded me of Liger vs. Sasuke. Easily my favorite finish of a match in recent memory. ****1/4
  6. Tanaka has always came off as a very robotic performer to me, and that opinion didn't change after watching this match - his selling was shitty & he did a very boring job being the one dominating once the match transitioned more into Tanahashi being the underdog fighting from underneath. He definitely didn't impress me - and honestly, the same goes for Tanahashi, his performance was, well, basically like every Tanahashi big match performance ever in nutshell. He used the same moves as always, did his limb work (which, for most of the time is very fun to watch btw) that went nowhere due to his opponent no selling it - you name it. Not a good one. *
  7. This ruled. Worked as a sprint - all action from start to finish w/ no dull moments. Kong looked incredible as the big man just kicking the champ's ass all over the place - and Callihan was tremendous with his selling, facial expressions & tactics of trying to chop down the big man. Super well wrestled David vs. Goliath bout. ****
  8. This actually had some neat storytelling, as Trent had been little frustrated with Rocky all year long in 2016 - and here the story of the match was that Trent basically took himself out of the match & Rocky had to win the big one himself. Solid stuff. **1/2
  9. Kevin Kelly so damn high. I never knew that his work was so liked, I've always thought of him as a very meh commentator.
  10. Okada vs. Tiger Mask W was one of those New Japan matches where nothing interesting happened until the 2nd half kicked in. Once Okada started to lay those stomps & slaps on W to get him fired up - that's when things got FANTASTIC. Seriously awesome freakin' stuff - enough for me to rate this pretty highly, but the dull first half prevents me from going even higher. ***3/4
  11. This was a very impressive New Japan debut for ZSJ. He got to showcase his wrestling style, and he seemed to get pretty over with the fans right away. Shibata gave him A LOT in this match, he truly helped make Zack look like million bucks. Probably the weakest of their 3 matches, but still very good. They have a really good chemistry with each other. ***1/2
  12. Probably the best Cruiserweight match since the division launched back in September. Neville's work on top was good, but what made this match stand out was Jack Gallagher's fantastic babyface performance from underneath - seriously loved the sense of urgency he showcased. ***1/2
  13. A very strong opener. Joe looked great working on top & Zayn was awesome as usual working from underneath. Very good stuff. ***1/2
  14. This features an absolutely amazing selling performance by AJ Styles - seriously phenomenal stuff by the man. Might be Roode's finest hour when it comes to his heel work on top too, he actually didn't come off as boring in this one (I give much credit to AJ for that). Truly an excellent match, quite possibly the best one in TNA history. ****3/4
  15. This was all about Joe Coffey trying to earn the respect of Minoru Suzuki - and in the end, he did exactly that. It was mostly a total Minoru show, him showcasing his terrific offense - as the match went on, Coffey got some hope spots in & those were good. They told a good story of him earning the respect of MiSu by just lasting as long as he did in the ring w/ him. This was a lot of fun & very easy to watch. ***1/2
  16. Well, this was very good. Nakajima looked badass with his deadly strikes, and Kitamiya shined as the underdog trying to pull off the upset. His leg work was solid, it didn't end up getting sold by Nakajima sadly, but it really didn't hurt the match at all - what did hurt it though is that it simply went on for too long, but even with that, they still managed to put on a really good match. Definitely one of the highlights for NOAH in 2016. ***1/2
  17. This had a structure of a classic 90's All Japan match - somewhat of a slow start, but not bad, Suwama established early dominance w/ his work over Akiyama's back & and the work over Akiyama was actually really, really good. Akiyama was awesome working from underneath, and it was interesting to see the crowd get more & more heated as they started to realize that ol' Jun actually might win this thing. Very good match. ***3/4
  18. My first introduction to Kento Miyahara was his match vs. The Bodyguard & I thought that while the match wasn't good, Miyahara wasn't bad in it. Then I watched his big title match vs. Suwama, and while I thought that the match was bad, Miyahara was really good in it, it's just that Suwama absolutely killed the match for me. And then I went with this one - Kento going against a man that I know is really damn great, Jun Akiyama. And the match sure did not disappoint - I am actually sad that I didn't decide to watch this in 2016, because it would've got a nice spot on my MOTY list. Akiyama's performance was just outstanding; his facial expressions told the whole story, and then you get his fantastic selling & tremendous offense. So, so, SO good. Miyahara was damn good as the never-say-die babyface working from underneath, his offense looked really good as well. Fantastic match. ****1/2
  19. This was great as expected. Great work on top by Nigel (as usual), his arm work on Roddy was really good, Roddy's selling of it was fine & his early shine + last comeback run before the end was fantastic - that Gibson Driver nearfall was legitimately fantastic. ****
  20. Goddamn this was just fantastic. Started off with Shayna establishing dominance when Io tries to get the first strike in - that set the tone for the rest of the match. Shayna does some really awesome work over the arm of Io, and Io is just fantastic selling it. Io's eventual big comeback was great, showing great fire & bringing her fantastic looking offense to Shayna - from then on Shayna tries to focus on the arm where she had done damage & she also tries (and she does) bust out some submissions, but in the end, THE ACE reigns supreme. Wonderful pro wrestling, right there. ****3/4
  21. Here's a few that haven't been mentioned yet, all from my ****3/4 - ***** match list: Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Mitsuharu Misawa (09/01/90) Kenta Kobashi vs. Jun Akiyama (07/24/98) Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle (08/19/01) Paul London vs. AJ Styles (06/14/03) Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA (09/16/06) Shawn Michaels & Triple H vs. Edge & Randy Orton (01/07/07) Bryan Danielson & Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards (04/18/09) Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena (04/29/12) Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan (12/16/13) Triple H vs. Daniel Bryan (04/06/14) Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns (02/22/15) Kenny Omega vs. Hirooki Goto (08/14/16) Brian Kendrick vs. Kota Ibushi (08/26/16) Minoru Suzuki vs. Kazuchika Okada (02/05/17)
  22. This was all about making Luke Harper look like million bucks in defeat - and AJ did an absolutely fantastic job in that. He bumped all over the place for Harper, sold his ass off. Harper looked like a killer because of that, and because he is really awesome, his offense is great, he came off as super charismatic & the crowd was absolutely behind him - which I actually was quite surprised about because AJ is so over. The whole re-start deal did end up taking a bit away from the match, but this was still an absolute banger between 2 great wrestlers. ***3/4
  23. Another awesome match between these 2 - Mickie & Becky have a great chemistry with each other. Mickie once again targeted that arm of Becky that she has been targeting in every match they have had. Becky was really good selling as usual, and her big comeback was great. Very enjoyable bout. ***1/2
  24. This was fantastic - another absolutely perfect performance by Nigel McGuinness during his all-time great ROH World Title reign - he absolutely MADE this match. His heel shtick in front of Steen's home crowd was tremendous, and his work over Steen's back & work on top in general was really great. The match quality actually dropped a bit when Steen made his big comeback, it wasn't bad, but I thought he didn't bring enough fire & energy to match Nigel's amazing work over him - if he had been on Nigel's level, or anywhere near it, this could've been one of the best matches in ROH history. BUT even with that being said, this still was a classic, cannot say enough good things about Nigel's performance. ****1/2
  25. Great match and an outstanding performance by Chris Hero. Tyler was fine as the babyface working from underneath, but it was Chris Hero's absolutely wonderful bully act that elevated the match to great levels for me. ****
