  1. That military press slam into a spinebuster Goldberg used to do was awesome. A good monkey flip would be great to see used more. The regular old school flying head scissor ala Antonio Rocca would be cool to see again. The classic atomic drop Bob Backlund style would be fun also.

Absolutely, I watched it yesterday and after Jericho's description of it in his book I was expecting a trainwreck but it was far from it. Hell there are spots in that famous ECW TV title 4 way that Jericho blew worse than in this RVD match. It wasn't a classic by any means but there were some cool spots executed well there, I agree the crowd really were just being dicks and overly critical which with all the praise the ECW fans get romanticized with today this is a prime example of how prickish of a crowd they were at times.
  3. Absolutely, wrestling should not ever be any point of contention in your personal relationships. My significant other isn't a fan and I don't try to change that, I respect that others I have in my life aren't gonna dig wrestling.
  4. Loved the new episode BAHU, keep up the great work and the video episodes have been fantastic.
  5. That's a cool idea and would be a great addition to the match trade one. For sure I'd take part when I get some time.
  6. I'm sure the man himself will post if he sees this, but from memory think it was he just didn't have the time to devote to it any more with everything else he had going on. Ahh makes sense, with his Deadspin stuff and Between The Sheets that I know of him doing that'd be enough to keep a person pretty busy.
  7. From what I recall from Bill Watts talking about the Simmons deal said that Simmons had flunked some drug tests, take that as what you will. Simmons also had made the comment once that Watts was a racist just without a hood. So who knows?
  8. Why did Bix leave 6:05? I fell out of keeping up with the show a long while back.
  9. Nice, good to see you back and on here as well. Welcome.
  10. I think it's become such a big thing due to the fact the more fans can see why outside and backstage influences can cause the onscreen matches and stories to be affected. Once promotions got lazier at explaining or wrapping up loose ends of stories then me personally wanted to know what happened? Then once you delve into the rabbithole and you see more interesting tales and rumors being spun about the backstage stuff than anything going on in the product then it makes it harder to commit your time and emotional investment in the onscreen stories. When you see how due to this reason or another then it's not gonna ever get paid off or end in a satisfactory way and talent you cheer for and support languish aimlessly for reasons on screen you don't understand but read some news backstage and in situations like Enzo recently you see why shit just stopped and disappeared. With so much entertainment at our fingertips and so much product to sift through I would much rather have an idea of what the possible direction of the product is gonna be vs just blinding sifting through the near 8-10 hours of weekly shows for WWE alone. I see it kinda like going to the movies, if it's a franchise or a director that hasn't let me down then I'm gonna watch regardless but if it's something that has a history of bad content or poor stories then I'm gonna check out some reviews and critics opinions before I invest my time. Pro wrestling fans online are notorious complainers but sometimes it's valid, because most of the time at least with WWE they seem to mock fans when they take the product seriously and also they dump on fans for not giving a shit about what's going on. You can't have it both ways.
  11. Probably 10-12 hours a week.
  12. Victor Zangiev in UWFi? He was by far the best of the Russians who came into Pro Wrestling in that NJPW deal and disappeared afterwards. Outside of his last bunch of matches in UWFi I've never heard anything bout him since.
  13. WWF for me growing up in the 90's, my dad loved WCW but I preferred WWF. I didn't get to see ECW until they were almost gone except in magazines, so all my love for them was going back watching it years after the fact. As a teen I was a diehard TNA fan when they came to Spike TV in 2005 until 2010 when Hogan came in and killed it for me. Also ROH from 2005-early 2009. Internationally once I got to see it when I got online my first Japanese love was NOAH due to their ROH relationship but also loved Hayabusa from seeing him on the shitty Backyard Dogs movie. Then it was UWFi and their Bushido episodes that ran on the Fight Network in Canada that made me fall in love with shootstyle. Then as I began training I loved the World of Sport and Johnny Saint stuff heavily for a long while there. As a fan now all these years later I'd consider my promotion ultimately to be Newborn UWF and the shootstyle stuff then NJPW and old AJPW(although I've started watching them recently with this year's champion carnival). I love bits and eras from tons of promotions though with my only blindspots being Mexico and Joshi which I know casually but not in depth at all.

  15. A fun listen and brightened my mind up during such a sombre period with Bruno's passing. Thanks for the great show guys.

  17. I'll join in, TV Shows(No Order) 1. King of The Hill 2. The Sopranos 3. The Simpsons 4. The Twilight Zone 5. Band of Brothers 6. It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia 7. All in The Family 8. South Park 9. Roots 10. Black Mirror Music I am not a big music collector but enjoy any songs that I hear and think sounds good of any genre. My favorite band is Barenaked Ladies(original line up) and I like bands like Weezer,TLC and Beastie Boys and random artists like Jim Croce,Alanis Morissette,Notorious B.I.G and Alan Jackson. Whatever I get interested in at various times or by the people I'm around. Right now my big kick is Die Antwoord after my cousin watched the movie Chappie and got me into them. Sports As for sports if it's not a combat sport like MMA,Submission Grappling,Kickboxing and casually Boxing then I don't watch them as I just don't get excited because I don't have the knowledge. I enjoy playing most of them for fun though like baseball and the like. Glad this topic has started as it's neat to learn more about other members outside of just wrestling.
  18. The Stump Puller RIP
  19. I'd say it'd be better off if it was an open topic deal where we could discuss anything -- i.e.; we can discuss anything that's not pro-wres (or politics) -- sports, movies, music, etc. as TTK mentioned. I'd also prefer if that was a private forum just for those registered (not password protected or anything) and those unregistered and/or with unaccepted accounts couldn't access, but that's just me. That sounds like a cool idea and outline.
  20. I've enjoyed Peterson and some of his videos and his books, although I don't agree with everything he says and don't care for some of the really cult like followers he gets treating him as some sort of prophet-like character. As for this I thought it was cool to see him so impressed with Stu as when I read Stu's book over a decade ago now I had the same feeling when learning about him. Due to the carniness and seediness of the wrestling business sometimes even the most knowledgeable and dedicated fans can miss the forest for the trees when it comes to how remarkable some people from the history of wrestling were. As for mocking the man's voice(aside from calling him a geek and a weirdo) to me comes off as kinda lame. I mean say what you want about his thoughts, work or opinions but what is there to gain from name calling and making fun of something he can't control?
  21. Oh and also Terry Gordy is another debated one that even has The Gordy List named after him after all.
  22. On the other side of the coin to Tiger Mask how about Dynamite Kid who from some got similar criticism for his work in the Tiger Mask era and the like(also his personal life aside from this discussion) while he is still heavily praised by Bret,Terry Funk and Harley Race among others. Also I'll throw in Eddie Guerrero who by some is now hailed as the greatest of all time where others say he was nowhere close but still great.
  23. Would anyone count Rey Mysterio? with him being outside the WWE bubble and hitting a ton of places and a variety of opponents along with his experience I'd say I'd throw him in.
  24. I think the indy workers trying to recreate 90s AJPW is kind of like rappers in the late 90s tying a bandanna around their head and expecting to become 2pac. Sure, they were fans and liked that style, but they kind of cherry picked the aesthetic parts, but not the deeper parts that made those style work. AJPW was a lot of flashy moves, but those moves were built upon years of character development, story-telling, and psychology. That's not something you can really recreate in a high school gym with a cast of characters that is fluid by nature. You can do a bunch of flashy moves and drop people on their heads, but without the foundational psychology of AJPW you're putting solar panels on the roof of a dog house. Brilliantly said, you pretty much summarized my thoughts and a great analogy to boot.
  25. For me as well I'm a big ROH fan from 2002-2008 even when the quality dropped but AJPW in the 90's still holds up and the had the far better undercard workers which in ROH even at it's best was spotty. And I'll take Baba comedy 6 man tags over the endless ROH scrambles any day. Main events wise both have treasures so there you can pick and choose but top to bottom AJPW wins hands down. *side note while thinking about this did anyone else really cringe when Gabe doing commentary as Jimmy Bower would do the BACKDROP DANGEROUS! deal when guys like BJ Whitmer would hit a Japan popular move off the top rope? Wow even then as a young teen that knew next to nothing about "smarky" stuff I found this to be tryhard as hell.
