I might be wrong but I think Mauro lives in LA now.

I didn't make too much of the final moments of this week's show. It just reinforced the notion we're getting Cody vs Darby in the semis. I think they're gonna eventually build to Darby finally beating Cody at some point.

I must say that it feels weird for me to see Paul Ellering in that timeframe with a team other than the Road Warriors but putting him with the Powers of Pain, it just fits beautifully. I think that's the best team with the Warriors mentality out there for you to pick and build as the badass tag team of your division.

WWF releases Mike Kelly and signs Sam Houston

Haven't seen any official word but they might be forced to.

You were right, I accidentally put 18 names in there rather than 16, thanks for the heads-up!

March 12th, 1988 Municipal Auditorium, Nashville, TN Hosted by: Vince McMahon & Jesse "The Body" Ventura As Vince McMahon & Jesse Ventura runs tonight's card as well as hyping tonight's announcement from Jack Tunney, they are interrupted by an altercation in the back between "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and Jerry "the King" Lawler. Officials are quick to stop the chaos and order is restored. Match #1 "Hollywood" John Tatum (w/Missy Hyatt) beat David Sammartino Match #2 "Ravishing" Randy Rose (w/Johnny V) beat Sika (w/Gary Hart) after a miscued chair shot by Baron Von Raschke on Sika. Sika was KOed and referee Jimmy Korderas called for the bell after seeing that Sika didn't respond as Rose put on a Boston Crab. After the match, The Original Midnight Express celebrated like they had just won the WWF Tag Team Championship... We now go to Mean Gene Okerlund in the ring for the WWF Championship announcement. "Alright, ladies and gentlemen, as you know, the last time we were here live on NBC, the most controversial match in World Wrestling Federation history took place and after Andre the Giant won the match in questionable fashion and sold the title to Nick Bockwinkel, WWF President Jack Tunney had decided to vacate the championship and promised us a major announcement right here tonight. And now, this is the time to know what he has in store. Without any further adieu, please welcome the President of the World Wrestling Federation, the esteemed Jack Tunney. (To no surprise, Tunney comes out to a chorus of boos by the audience with the WWF Championship in hand. He shakes hands with Mean Gene as he enters the ring.) Mean Gene: Alright, Mr. Tunney, the world is eager to know what have you decided to do to settle the situation surrounding the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship? Jack Tunney: Thank you, Gene. It wasn't an easy decision as it was an unforeseen situation in the history of the World Wrestling Federation. And I felt it was important that we ensured that we wouldn't have to go through this ever again. The fans deserved to see a true champion and a true winner so it is my honor and privilege to announce to you that in 15 days, live from the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, NJ at Wrestlemania IV, we will hold a one-night 16-men tournament to crown a new World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion. In virtue of the controversial events of last month's Main Event, I have decided to include both Hulk Hogan and Nick Bockwinkel in the tournament. Also competing in the tournament will be: -The Crusher -Brutus Beefcake -Paul Orndorff -Jerry Lawler -Jimmy Garvin -Sgt. Slaughter -Bad News Brown -Greg Valentine -Don Muraco -The Ultimate Warrior -Jerry Lynn -Larry Zbyszko -Baron Von Raschke -Tito Santana In case of injuries, there are already alternates that have been assigned and will enter the tournament, if needed. And I will promise that we absolutely will have a new WWF Champion at the end of Wrestlemania." Mean Gene: Wow, what a blockbuster announcement by WWF President Jack Tunney! 16-men will vie for the right to become the new World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion in 2 weeks at Wrestlemania! The question is: who will survive this grueling night and make it all the way to the end? Match #3 The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers beat "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey & Johnny V with La Bombe Rougeau The Brother Love Show closed this Saturday Night Main Event with his guest, "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers. Similar to the previous edition with Rip Oliver where Jaggers was pretty much introduced to the WWF audience. Rip Oliver actually interrupted the show and offered to be Jaggers' tag team partner and chase the WWF Tag Team Championships together. Brother Love seemed particularly excited at the thought that he had something to do with Oliver & Jaggers joining forces together...What kind of trouble could Oliver & Jaggers cause together in the WWF? Exclusive Coliseum Home Video matches: Tito Santana beat David "Fit" Finlay with the Flying Forearm Smash The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts) beat Nord the Barbarian & Bunkhouse Buck (w/Gary Hart)

That's something that honestly baffles me. When you're too worried about your competition that you don't use all the weapons you have in your possession, you've already lost half of the battle. The Network is a tremendous weapon that WWE has to eventually draw new eyes to their product.
-
That's a good question. If I were USA and FOX, I would allow them to run a format like Vintage Collection used to, covering their entire library. I don't understand why they haven't done extensively in the past few weeks. This is something they can afford, as opposed to AEW.

I'm still more of a nostalgic guy so I'll tend to favor the pre-1996 stuff, from any promotion. But I still don't mind revisit more recent matches.
-
Who would've thought even a year ago that a coronavirus would be what would eventually get the best of Vince McMahon.
-
Interesting that you went to the decision win for Flair but I think it was the right move, other than a blatant no-contest involving Piper in the finish. Looking forward to what's next!
-
Loved the promo between Flair and Piper. With all the tension and uneasiness between them, makes you wonder if Flair had JJ Dillon & Arn Anderson talk to Barry Windham to deflect the attention here. Smart booking!

It was their 25th TV show since their premiere episode. They certainly were able to adapt to the situation better than WWE did, it seems, despite WWE having better means to face that pandemic (Performance Center, possibility of taping in batch, etc).
-
I assume that Robert Duranton also wrestled as Bobby Duranton in California around the same time? I was just doing some research on Cagematch today and I stumbled upon a WWA card in California in 1964 with both of them seemingly popping up on that card (Duranton was working a tag match against Freddie Blassie and Carpentier wrestled Kintaro Oki in the semi-main)

Love what you're doing with Jake right now. Jake vs the World is pretty much à propos in those circumstances and his overall mentality.
-
Yeah, Dean has been diagnosed recently with Parkinson's...Probably a couple of months ago but I couldn't tell you exactly when.
-
Well, the Network being free for a while during the pandemic will definitely help. Don't know for how long but it is something.
-
Glad we can all contribute to make things a bit better when we all need it. Especially in those trying and uncertain times right now, we can take anything we can get.
-
Yeah, they're gonna show Wrestlemania 32 next week and in 2 weeks, Wrestlemania 35 before Night 2 of Mania 36.

WWE TV 03/16 - 03/22 This is the rhythm of the night virus
SirEdger replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Well, maybe now Braun showed us with that tweet why he didn't get that main event push after all. -
Maybe they didn't feel comfortable being there. Tony Khan said no one would be forced to work shows during the pandemic.

Just watched this match today for the first time. It felt so unreal to me to see Stan Hansen showing that much vulnerability in a match when I've been so used to see him beat up and bully his opponent around. Certainly took me by surprise but the way it progressed made it even better for me.
