  1. The best thing that came out of the DDP turn was the Sting match on Nitro where he won the title, which they negated by the end of the show with Page getting it right back.
  2. The problem I have with the double suplex pin is that it seems like 99 time out of 100 the person doing the suplex seems to be purposely doing a shitty job of the move so that they both wind up on the mat.
  3. The announcers acting like they didn't know anything about the backstage skits was annoying to no end. The worst was when there were like 4 weeks of Torrie Wilson talking to the camera, and not a word about it from Tony, Bobby, or Mike. Then when she shows up with David and is with the nWo, they're all "Hey, it's that girl we've been seeing on TV all month!"
  4. I had a letter printed in the "You Asked Us" column of "The Wrestler" when I was fifteen. I'd asked JJ Dillon why Hall and Giant weren't stripped of the WCW Tag Titles for failure to defend them, when Flair had been stripped of the U.S. Title for that reason (hey, I was still a total mark). "JJ Dillon" replied that he didn't recall the particulars of the Flair situation, but that Scott Hall hadn't exactly been in condition to perform (this was late '98 when he came out on Nitro drunk every week) and it was unfair to the Giant. My favorite of those mags is still the Wrestling 83, Wrestling 84, Wrestling 85, etc. quaterly mags. My uncle had given me a couple of them in the early '90s and I'd gotten a few more back issues of them from the forms in other mags.
  5. The thing that always stuck out to me was on the first show when Jeff Jarrett was burying the Gauntlet for the Gold match and Hall and Shamrock came out, as babyfaces, and told Jeff "You're right about this battle royal, it sucks."
  6. This. I'm recalling the first time I saw the '83 Tag League match between Jumbo/Tenryu and Brody/Hansen. I was shocked at the distance Tenryu got on his back elbow.
  7. I remember Zybyszko always coming up with stupid nicknames for heels. The New World Odor, Chris Jerkico, etc.
  8. Aren't the big names of TNA (Sting, Angle, Hogan, etc)'s salaries covered by Spike TV?
  9. Is there any correlation between TNA completely going off the handle and Russo's return? The first REALLY bad thing I'm remembering is Voodoo Kin Mafia and their quasi shoot promos on Vince and DX. I know TNA had been stupid before that, such as everyone thinking that Nash was really going to put over Chris Sabin. But at least that had those funny promos with Nash and Shelley. Nash: I drew 43,000 people to MSG Shelley: Does MSG hold 43,000? Nash: It did that night!
  10. I was 12 years old in 1995 and without cable all I got to watch was WWF Superstars. Aside from the sweet ass angle with Sid laying out Shawn after 'Mania, and then discovering WCW Nitro late in the year, it fucking sucked to be a wrestling fan.
  11. That's the power of Vince Russo! I haven't watched a TNA PPV since 2008 or an Impact episode since 1/4/2010. Does TNA still call themselves "The New Face in Professional Wrestling?"
  12. I would think it's more that the 'E realizes how good he is (in the ring and on the stick) and don't want anyone else to have him. Because if he were to go to TNA and Russo accidentally does something right, he could be a big shot in the arm for them. That said, if he does decide to leave (has anything been reported since it came out that he hasn't signed his extension?) I don't think he'll be going to TNA. He's not exactly buddies with the Hardly Brothers, and I'm sure he's smart enough to know that he'd wind up being just like Angle, Kennedy, and the other 50 guys who left the 'E and went there. They'd hype him for a month or so as their biggest acquisition yet, and then he'd be just another guy.
  13. So I'm sitting at work and it dawns on me that there was a TNA PPV tonight. Now, the only thing I even care about regarding TNA is Beer Money, but out of curiosity on what may have happened, I jump onto wikipedia to check results. I don't dare go to 411 or any site with a lot of pop ups while at work. Low and behold, there aren't results listed on Wikipedia. Considering that Wikipedia seems to have WWE and UFC PPV match/fight by match/fight results almost the second the match/fight is over, I think it's hilarious that nearly 3 hours after the show, nobody cares enough to post them.
  14. I really liked Tazz's heel run in Summer 2000, but they pretty much killed him dead by having Lawler and JR outsmart him at Summerslam. Then he got thrown together with Raven to accomplish nothing special, and then was turned babyface again (I don't even remember if there was a real angle to do it) to feud with RTC.
  15. Hall was suspended at the time of Mania. Officially for testing positive for pot (also for refusing to work a long term program with Goldust).
  16. Don't forget Vader falling flat on a his ass during that RAW from 2005 where he and Goldust were Coach's goons.
  17. There's Backlund vs. Superstar on Will's Backlund comp.
  18. I was goofing around on Youtube today and came across the Road Warriors squash of PG-13 that signaled their exit from the WWF. It was fun for what it was. JC Ice trying to act all Bruce Lee was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
  19. That was pretty common in the late '80's and early '90's though. Both faces and heels would get the count out or DQ wins and start jumping up and down. Then Fink would announce that the title doesn't change hands. But, you're right, after 'Mania Luger more or less fizzled out. After the feud with Perfect, I don't know what they could have done with him. Bret was locked up with Owen at the time. Hell, Lex layed down for KING KONG BUNDY at Survivor Series that year.
  20. Ronnie Garvin as one of the Headbangers would have been awesome! Re: Luger, I don't think the Summerslam booking hurt him at all. He was still right up there as one of the top babyfaces. I'd say that the WrestleMania loss did some damage, only because there really wasn't any sort of discernible follow up on it, and he seemed lost in the shuffle until the Tatanka angle in the summer of '94. I don't even think the six day title reign hurt him too bad. Luger's win over Hogan was one of the best moments on Nitro in '97, and it wasn't like he jobbed clean. Hell, Bischoff had spent all year undoing title losses to Hall and Nash.
  21. It's more in tune that the head honcho of Grey Poupon issued a directive that says that they're only able to spend x amount of dollars on advertisements. And they don't feel that advertising on WWE television programs are the best ways to use those dollars, compared to an ad during the World Series, Super Bowl, American Idol, etc.
  22. Punk and Orton only had two matches, both on PPV. Orton beat Punk at Mania, with the buildup that Orton had taken out the rest of Nexus so that Punk had no backup. And then beat Punk at Extreme Rules in the blowoff. It's not like Punk got beaten like a drum, he'd gotten one over on Orton a few times himself during the feud.
  23. Goldberg to Nash was the only one that I could think of too. The loss itself didn't really hurt him too much, it was more along the lines of one of the stupid mistakes WCW made that led to them falling to the lows that they did. But, between getting screwed out of the title and then screwed out of his rematch, I seem to recall Goldberg getting even more over with the fans.
  24. I forgot about the Molly Holly angle. With Lawler encouraging people to chant "She's a fat ass"
  25. I wouldn't be surprised if JR would have an issue with Kong's size. He sent Mark Henry down to OVW to lose weight and there's the Tony Jones thing in Beyond the Mat that sparked quite the discussion 'round these parts. He doesn't really come off quite that blunt to just flat out tell her "We're not interested in you, you're too fat."
