Arn needs to be somewhere high on the all-time list. -
Danny Havoc edit: never mind

World Class was on ESPN at one time, right? I’m not misremembering that am I? I swear it was even on there when AWA was too. I remember catching it after school sometimes in the mid-late 80’s. -
WWE TV 07/13 - 07/19 Paul Verhoeven is now a visionary and really basic

My personal issue with Seth is that I don't, for a second, buy him as tough (I have the same issue with Miz). Like, they're both bigger guys than me, but honestly, if I was at a bar and Seth wanted to fight me, I wouldn't be scared. He might win (he'd probably win as I'm no badass for sure), but he doesn't come off as a threat. To me, a good chickeshit heel can still be seen as a tough guy. Tully and Gino Hernandez are good examples. They can both fight with the best of them when it's called for, but would rather take shortcuts. Seth just doesn't convey that. I don't know if it's his real-life whining on twitter or maybe it's when he was the top face in the company and he cowered in fear at a dude in a scary mask, but I just don't see him being to beat up anyone. And please don't take this as me saying every wrestler needs to be some big bruiser. Mysterio exudes a toughness. He's going to stay in the fight no matter how outsized he is. Even someone like face Dakota Kai has that. When they did the angle where Shayna was bullying her, she overcame her fear and fought back. She looked tough doing that. Pro wrestling is simulated combat. In my mind, I still need to buy that a given wrestler can "win a fight". Like I said, that doesn't mean they all have to look like Lesnar or anything. There are different ways a person can win a fight. It's just that Seth (post-Shield) has never looked like that kind of person. -

WWE is like a little microcosm of the U.S. Maybe this Owens thing shows that one person, or a small group of people, can make a difference even when all of the others are either apathetic or willfully harmful? -
Ironically, I feel like Joey could be a great modern-day update on the Jim Cornette character. He could play one of those assholes that “slums” it and dresses like a dirt bag while having really rich parents. He could use their money to put together a stable.

Oh man. I dug that 8-man. It made me really want to see an FTR/B and B match.
-
The finish of that tag was all kinds of fucked up. (By “fucked up” I mean messed up, not like disturbing.)
-
He has finally achieved an exactly equal width and height.

What you don't realize, @delacroix is that Ric knew that you were having trouble with your boss. He visited you in a dream to give you the encouragement you needed. The Nature Boy works in mysterious ways.

I’m with JR. Wrestlers need to stop doing the stupid, “Three!!?!?!” after every fucking kick out. You’ve never won a match with that move. Don’t act like you’re shocked it didn’t end the match.
-
Really? You don’t think Joe comes off as tough? I wouldn’t fuck with him.
-
Private Party look good when they’re doing spots. They both are super awkward in-between those spots.

I had no feelings about Sabian, but that was some dumb shit when he blatantly threw the stick in the air when he got punched.
-
What is it with tiny little asshole wrestlers and not wearing masks? I saw a pic of Kobashi and Kawasaki together wearing masks like real fucking men. I want a tag match of those two beating the piss out of whiny little Low Ki and Aries.

“Yeah, brother! Let’s get down there and help Quake! You go first, Hitman. I’ll...uh...be right behind you.” - Hogan probably.

One cultural trend that pro wrestling is definitely following is the #MeToo movement.

LOLOLOLOLOL! Legit made me snort at my desk. So true...(sobs).

Wrestling is always a few years behind the trends. Speaking of "Indie Rock", I always thought a promotion should've done a hipster character back in the mid-late '00s. Most guys were still coming out to some form of nu metal at that point (Hell, they still are. Jesus.). This dude could've changed his entrance music constantly since whatever he had last month wasn't "cool" anymore. He could rip on the other wrestlers and audience for being stuck in the 90's and not following the latest trends. It'd been a great heel.

It's not that out there. I think the original poster meant that there was a turn to people finding things on the internet/on their own instead of getting it from radio/tv. I don't think they mean that CM Punk/Joe are anything like Arcade Fire. It's just that people came to find them in similar ways. Same with people calling ECW the "Grunge Rock of Wrestling" (I also hate the term Grunge). It was just that ECW was seen as this unpolished alternative to the slick wrestling you saw on tv at the time. Sort of like how Grunge "replaced" Hair Metal (I know it didn't really, but that's the common perception).

Eric did a really beautiful write-up on the Orton/Edge match. You all should definitely read it when you have time.

Cornette seems to have that Howard Stern thing of "people who love him listen an average of an hour a day, people who hate him listen for four hours" thing going on.
