Last few minutes. The spot where Austin drops Chono awkwardly and injures his neck looks really nasty. Also interesting to see this in the context of Austin being so upset about Owen doing the same thing to him.

Yeah, this piledriver looks very bit as nasty as the Owen driver. People should watch this and the Owen driver back to back.

Wasn't the whole reason Austin was so pissed off about Owen doing the sit-out Tombstone because of this? "I'm not up for doing the move that way, broke Chono's neck in New Japan with it..." etc

That piledriver was nasty. Looked like Austin's knee buckled.

It is amazing to watch this with what happened with Owen five years later. Don't know how Chono continued with match even if it was for only a couple more minutes.

Yeah, he knew how dangerous it was. So he wanted to do it the other way. Seems like a strange spot to do on a card with Taker in the main event.

That was brutal-looking. They go almost immediately to the finish and do it in a better way than Austin and Owen did, but I don't know how. How much did THIS affect Chono at Halloween Havoc?

I'd never seen this bump before. Pretty crazy to see him hit this here and eat basically the same thing 5 years later. Chono looked pretty pissed afterwards.

I've got to give a lot of respect to Chono for continuing the match after that. Since Austin was upset with Owen for never apologizing to him, does anyone know if Austin ever apologized to Chono, or how he feels about the accident?

Austin was asked about this when he was on Michael Schiavello's show. Asking Owen not to do the move that way had nothing to do with Chono because he didn't know about the injury until years after the Owen match due to Chono and NJPW not really making it apparent to him at all. Then he looked into the camera and sincerely apologized to Chono.

 

A little weird, but Austin says it's just a freak coincidence.

It looked like Austin dropped Chono right on his forehead, and Chono was clearly favoring his neck and shoulder in the postmatch What a brutal accident. As a few have said above me, kudos to Chono for finishing the match at all.

 

Was this the injury which eventually forced Chono to retire from wrestling?

Chono going on with the match after that is something.  Was thinking of the whole weird karma with this and the Owen incident as I watched.
