J-Tex is disbanded, which is yet another the Horsemen turn was poorly timed. But now, we do have Sullivan's Slaughterhouse, which is a fun collection of crazy guys. Poor Cactus just cannot talk at this point. Luckily, Kevin Sullivan is there, an always reliable promo. Buzz Sawyer is acting more like the Buzz of old, so he seems to be back in his element. Sullivan angles them as guys who want to take on both babyfaces and heels, which is an interesting idea and could have probably been taken much farther. To quote Cornette, "their meatloaf isn't all baked".

Yeah, boy, another underwhelming appearance by Cactus. He just can't come off as crazy as the other two guys. Sullivan makes what is probably the first and only Kurt Vonnegut reference in the history of wrestling promos, and makes sure to emphasize that the Mad Dog was never PROVEN guilty. Sawyer had a lot of potential in this angle to make an impact on a national level, but his own problems ensured that it never came to be.

Wow, I sure would have liked to have seen a Slaughterhouse v. Horsemen mini feud as a placeholder for TV before Sting's return.

Shall I assume that this was taped before WrestleWar? If memory serves, Buzz broke his wrist on a top rope splash at WrestleWar and that's why he was suddenly gone. Is that accurate?

There's an even crazier interview the next night on WCW. Sullivan has to drag Sawyer off of a jobber with a chain, then gets his descriptions of Sawyer's birth and salvation by desert wolves extensively bleeped, making them seem much worse than they actually are, at least by my limited lip reading skills. Absolutely bizarre.

It seems like the Slaughterhouse was originally going to take up at least part of J-Tex's issue with the Horsemen, judging by Sully's references to turning over limos and dragging the passengers out. Unfortunately, that would have turned them face in the current climate, so it goes nowhere. They also have a specific word of warning for Corny and the MX, which is another great idea that goes nowhere but makes Corny freak out visibly

Sully's actually pretty rational here; it's Sawyer whose ground beef is rancid, to extend Corny's metaphor. Mick plays the simpleton here, almost like a George Steele who can talk. It'll be interesting to see just how far they go.

Kevin Sullivan has put together a new group called ‘The Slaughterhouse’, consisting of himself, Cactus Jack and ‘Mad Dog’ Buzz Sawyer. He says that it’s not the most elite group in pro wrestling; they don’t drive limos, they’re the kind of guys that turn the limos over and reach in and grap the people that drive them. The crowd starts jeering them and Sawyer tells them to shut up, ‘the Mad Dog is talking’, before starting to laugh. Sullivan says how in this country you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, Buzz says he was guilty and Sullivan says that he wasn’t supposed to say that, ‘Buzz was never proven guilty’. Cornette wonders ‘guilty of what?’, but Sullivan tells him it doesn’t matter and it doesn’t matter who it is, as when you meet ‘The Slaughterhouse’ you go to the hospital.

I know that they’re supposed to be a group of uncontrollable mad men, but this was a mess and all over the place. Even Sullivan who is usually a good promo was struggling with this. Cactus and Sawyer were both acting as if they’re not all there, with Jack the simpleton and Sawyer as plain bat shit crazy. Despite the laughing and howling Sawyer does come across as one scary dude, although I don’t think he’s long for the NWA.
