goodhelmet Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Man, Punk throws some nice forearms. Great segment between Punk and Brock. It looked better than any brawl that HHH-Brock ever tried to have. Maybe as nasty as the Cena-Brock TV brawls but without the hardway blood.

The brawl was really good, lots of good little touches like Punk going to use the mic as a weapon and Brock's knees looking real painful and Heyman being a slimy jilted lover is perfect. Got high hopes for these two at Summerslam (if the one on one goes ahead).
WingedEagle Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 I really dug how Brock & Punk worked the physicality there as they managed to present Punk as both an underdog against a monster like Lesnar but at the same time hold his own more than enough that it didn't look like a blowout. And Heyman's promo? He should've just dropped the mic and walked off. Game over.

Mark just standing there screaming "You think I'm gonna run?!" and "You think I ain't never fought three on one?", and then tossing them all around before they got the advantage was fucking killer. Oh and him shutting down the "You tapped out!" chant by saying "Yeah, I tapped out. And he'd tap out each and every one of you, too!" ruled.

I think Ziggler works better as a heel, which is odd since I pretty much think everyone works better as a face. As a character, cocky smiley show-off Ziggler doesn't really come across as all that like-able.

CM Punk-Paul Heyman stuff was insanely great DB getting a title shot at Summerslam is great Add in Cody being over as a face, the great Vickie bit in the lobby where that one kid is just yelling "BOOO!" at her face, Naomi being pretty fucking good, Maddox being fun, Jericho & RVD starting out rough and then settling in to a fun "old timers" match, and Brooklyn Brawler being up there on the stage during the "selection" bit. Oh, and Punk and Heyman doing their take on the Hopper/ Walken scene from True Romance was aces.
Bix Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 I have never, ever seen anything live at a WWE event like the Punk-Heyman/Lesnar segment before. Real, scornful heat for Heyman, ridiculously passionate cheers for Punk when Heyman pulled the "you don't have a family, you just have THESE PEOPLE" card to reassure him they loved him, and completely molten heat for the Punk-Brock brawl. I've been to some pretty big shows including all-time WWE highlight reel moments like the Rock-HHH ladder match and Taker-Punk at Mania this year, but I'd never experienced a "you can cut the tension with a knife" moment like that whole segment was tonight. It could not have gone any better and it was a spectacular start to the SummerSlam build.

sek69 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 I noticed RVD seems to be moving much better than he was in his TNA run. I don't know if he was hurt or if it was from the weight loss, but he's looked better the last two nights than he has the last 5 years or so.

pantherwagner Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Just so El-P doesn't feel alone I also don't see what's so great about the Wyatt family (but yeah no crazy hillbilly cults in southern Europe I guess). If they are going to do this Shield gimmick of ganging up on people they better get the two big dudes up to speed because the beatdowns look really bad. I hope they send the ginger one for a week with Finlay so he can teach him how to stomp properly. Wyatt seems to have great delivery though so he could eventually breakout but the other two could be dead weight pushing him down. I'm sure they have a pretty good plan for them so I will have to see how this develops but IMO the gimmick is walking a fine line between creepy/great/unique gimmick and mid 90s wrestlecrap. (Disclaimer: I have never seen them on NXT because I don't watch it) I also don't know if Ziggler will have legs for a long run as a babyface. He's looks too much like a fratboy douchebag. It's smart to book his key moments with the more hardcore crowds though because then you can make sure he'll get a great reaction. I didn't care about the gimmick but I feel sorry for Fandango, it's like he got a concussion, are pissed that he had to rest up and they lost faith in him, because he looked like he was getting ready for an IC title run. Almost everything else they are doing seems to be a winner, though. Really intrigued about future Henry vs Shield matchups - that should be pretty awesome. Brock vs Punk will be great, too. I thought Warrior was supposed to appear on Raw (read that on somebody's facebook so it may just be a silly rumor). It's a shame there can't be a mania without a Taker streak as a main event selling point because I'd love to fantasy book Sting/Taker/Warrior vs The Shield.

Also the darkened entrance with the creepy lamb mask over Bray's shoulder is one of the best they've done in years.

rovert Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 I think the deal with the Wyatt Family is that Bray is so good both promo wise and in-ring that people in NXT didn't really seem to notice too much that the other two aren't as good. I wasn't a fan of Bray Wyatt in NXT as a wrestler. I felt he still hadn't found his "voice" in ring as a skinnier wrestler and for his character yet. On the hand I was a massive fan of Husky Harris and Harris's agile fat boy offence - Running Sentons, Rolling Firemans etc. His finish in NXT the "Sister Abigail" did noting for me either:
