Re: Cancer shirts

Let's make this pro wrestling related. Should heels wear 'Fight Cancer' shirts and the like? No matter how heelish the words on the shirt/merchandise ("I love to motor boat so let's save them tit-tas!"), it still supports cancer research. This goes outside of cancer. What about ALS? Should heels EVER take up a noble real-life cause while on screen? What Seth Rollins does in his personal life is up to him, but on TV- I don't think he should wear a breast cancer awareness pin or anything like that. I would seriously like everyone's thoughts on this. Perhaps I am over thinking the entire thing?

I don't think it should be a watermark. I think it should be something to help the faces get over more while at the same time allow the heels to appear more heelish. Kane doesn't have to cut a promo about how he wants to spread cancer to the WWE locker room and the world. Rusev doesn't have to cut a promo about how cancer will never be eliminated because AMERICA is the biggest cancer of them all. Bo Dallas doesn't have to get on the mic and tell the world that he BO-LIEVES in cancer. WWE just needs to make sure that on Raw, Smackdown, Superstars, and Mainevent that none of those guys (or any heel) is wearing anything that supports cancer awareness/research. Just the fact that these guys are NOT wearing it would make people think the heels are purposely going out their way to do this. Instant heat.

Now if WWE wants to run some ads and do a pep talk at a school or have a special charity dinner and Rusev, Kane, Rolling, Bo Dallas, etc. are all there- that is 100% fine. That's real life. But in fantasy land, WWE isn't going to take a hit if Nikki Bella isn't wearing pink. The entire heel section of the WWE roster can't have a 'pet the dog' moment for an entire month- let alone a night. I don't want to pretend that this is one of the top reasons why heels aren't as over as they could be- but its one of them. If The Miz is suppose to be a dick- then make him a dick. Allow him to be a complete dick. Having Miz come out in pink reminds me that The Miz is just a character and behind this character is a guy who really cares about cancer research and wants to make the world a better place in his own small way. HOW DOES THIS MAKE ME HATE THE GUY? It takes me out of the narrative.

I agree with you. As soon as the Authority came out with the pink ribbon lapel pins, I amused myself the rest of the night in a chat thinking about if other characters would or would not wear a pin. Say if Bray had a pin on his hat, just would not work. Don't think Ambrose had any either (although he wears a leather jacket), and he's one of the megababyfaces. Would not fit his character either. Lana had a pink pocket square, not sure if that was meant to support Komen or it looked good with her outfit. It looked odd when Eva Marie had a cancer half-shirt on while Cameron had her normal ring attire.

But yes, I don't think the awareness/cause would be hurt if the Authority and other heels didn't wear pink ribbon lapel pins and shirts. Plenty of other stars can wear them, plus the decal on the ramp, Good N' Plenty ropes and PSAs will chip in.

They really are running with the ludicrous idea Meltzer reported last week. They have a story two years in the making with over five months of build but instead of logically concluding the feud inside a Hell in a Cell (for the MITB briefcase which increases the stakes tenfold) they decide to insert Cena into the feud. Can someone explain why they do the things they do?

(self-edit because it's Pro-wrestling only, but Hayes looks like your average hypocrite bigot here with his "I'm not preaching but this is for the kids, it will make them better" bullshit)

And this is an atrocity musically speaking. Not the first one Hayes had commited though.

In terms of heels supporting causes, I liked how Lana was wearing a pink pocket square in her suit jacket on Raw. Support the cause but not in a heel-undermining way.

Lana on social media is kind of loosing up too. She is actually following people on Twitter now! But the most interesting thing was her Tweeting Emma Watson's He for She speech.

Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford (!) and Joan Lunden will be on RAW Monday for the Breast Cancer cause. Kathie Lee has always bad mouthed wrestling something fierce (vilifying Rick Rude after his death for his appearance in character on R & KL)

Shows Rude worked her good and proper then.

Yes

direct quote "I wrote this song because I heard a news report 20 years ago about they were gonna take praying out of school"

Can anybody who was watching in 1992 tell me if Hayes was spending promo time advocating for a full investigation of Nixon's role in Watergate?
