Your best 10 match card.

First, I would like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post.

The idea I had was if you booked a 10 match card using matches that have taken place to see how good your card would look. There are two rules.

1. You can only use a particular wrestler once. For example, you can have Bret Hart vs Steve Austin from wm13. You can't have Bret or Austin in any other match on the card. Using Royal Rumbles/Battle Royals is not recommended.

2. You can only have a particular title represented once. You can have Hogan vs Savage from wm5 but you can't have that and Flair/Steamboat from Chitown. Even though they are seperate companies, 1 world title per card. Same goes for World Tag titles. It is ok to have any combo of IC/U.S./TV title as long as each belt is only represented once.

It is ok to use foreign matches as well as U.S. as long as they follow the rules above.

Here is a card I thought of.

1. Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon IC Title WM10 (LADDER Match)

2. Eddy Guerrero/Art Bar vs Octagon/El Hijo Del Santo (When Worlds Collide)

3. Randy Savage vs Ultimate Warrior WM7 (Retirement Match)

4. Midnight Express vs Fantastics CLASH1 (U.S. Tag titles)

5. Undertaker vs Mankind KOTR98 (Hell in a Cell)

6. Rock n Roll Express vs Ivan Koloff/ Krusher Kruchev 7/9/85 (World Tag titles)

7. Bret Hart vs Steve Austin WM13 (I Quit )

8. The Rock vs Hulk Hogan WM18

9. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Mitsu Misawa & Jun Akiyama 12/6/96

10. Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat CLASH6 (2/3 Falls World title)

I think we had a thread along these lines before. I thought I have a creative way to do it that wasn't spanning years or decades. I think one year in Japan, multi-promotional with the different promotions trying to top / fuck each other over. I'll have to see if I can find it...

I kind of like building a card for each year for instance 1990 I would do this as my show:

1. Midnight Express vs. Southern Boys (GAB 7/7/90)

2. Lightning Kid vs. Jerry Lynn (PWA April 1990)

3. Riki Choshu, Kantaro Hoshino, Kuniaki Kobayashi, Kensuke Sasaki & Shiro Koshinaka vs. Higo Hamaguchi, Super Strong Machine, Tarzan Goto, Hiro Saito & Masanobu Kurisu (NJPW 6/26/90)

4. Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs. Nobuhiko Takada (UWF 10/25/90)

5. Aja Kong vs. Bull Nakano (Cage Match) (AJW 11/14/90)

INTERMISSION

6. Rockers vs. Powers of Pain (MSG 1/15/90)

7. Hulk Hogan vs. Stan Hansen (WWF/AJPW 4/13/90)

8. Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger (Wrestle War 2/25/90)

9. Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (AJPW 6/8/90)

10. El Dandy vs. El Satanico (Hair vs. Hair) (EMLL 12/14/90)

Yep...

Build A Show

Damn... I really worked the "politics" aspect of it. Loved Choshu and Saitoh bullshiting Tenryu and blaming it all on Sak. :P

Looks like I fumbled my first post. I feel like Fred Ottman when he first appeared as the shockmaster.

Yeah. don't worry about that. We all revisit old topics. Guys like jdw like bumping old threads. I like it when new topics are created. Neither way is right or wrong. Keep posting.

It wasn't a knock. More in the sense that the old thread is a refresher on what some of us came up with several years back. I couldn't even remember the year and matches I came up with, nor how the promotions were screwing each other. :) Plus, ever few years folks change their minds on what would be on their cards. Nothing wrong with hitting it again... was just wondering what in the heck we came up with last time.

I made a thread along these lines a while back.

For me, ten matches is too hard. Also, you have to be cognizant of card placement. Sticking ten main events on a single card seems like overkill. Anyway, here's what my card would look like right now. Maybe I'll add some later.

Bret/Owen, WM10

Eddy/Rey, Halloween Havoc

Sting/Vader, Starrcade

Luger/Windham vs. Arn/Tully, Clash I

Hokuto/Kandori, Dreamslam

Hansen/Kobashi, 7/29/93

Misawa/Kawada, 6/3/94

Yeah, a great card is more than just a collection of great matches. I don't know if I want to see 10 all time classics in a row if I'm sitting down to watch a wrestling show. I want to see a hot opener, maybe something of a light-hearted fun commedy-type match in the middle, something unique like a good man/man little man match or an entertaining gimmick match, maybe a great workrate-y midcard match and an epic main event. I don't want 10 epic main events in row.

I like your peak and trough challenge. I'll go for a Mid South/UWF super card. Since Dibiase and Duggan are in the main event, that takes out a ton of matches from the Mid South set that might have been on the show. There is something for everyone on this show... Technical showcase (Chavo vs. Olympia), short Midcard matches (Koko, Robley matches), tag team action, Mexicans, big feuds and a double cage main event. I also left enough Mid South wrestlers featured on the set off so you can run another super card on the same night in another town (Jake, Doc, JYD, Flair, Freebirds, Buzz etc.)

Chavo Guerrero vs. Mr. Olympia

Buck Robley vs. One Man Gang

Dutch Mantel & Bill Dundee vs. The Fantastics

Hector Guerrero vs. Jose Lothario

Rock N Roll Express vs. Midnight Express

*Intermission*

Koko B Ware vs. Eddie Gilbert

Dick Murdoch vs. The Nightmare

Chris Adams vs. Terry Taylor

Mr. Wrestling 2 & Magnum TA vs. Butch Reed & Jim Neidhart (Cage Match)

Jim Duggan vs. Ted Dibiase (Cage Match)

Off the top of my head:

Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio

Fujinami vs Dynamite Kid

Kobashi/Kikuchi vs Furnas/Kroffat

Benoit vs Regal

Necro Butcher vs Samoa Joe

Misawa/Akiyama vs Kawada/Akira Taue

Shinjiro Ohtani vs. El Samurai

Jaguar Yokota vs. La Galactica

Jay & Mark Briscoe vs Jack Evans/Roderick Strong vs Young Bucks TLC

Jumbo Tsuruta vs. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Kerry Von Erich

Maybe a bit too stacked but I think there is variety in there. Throw in a few intermissions/promos/angles, reduce the junior matches to short sprints.

I had fun looking through the Mid South matches so I'll try Memphis now. The huge problem here is once you picka Dundee vs. Lawler match, you have eliminated about 75 matchups so I have to go for a Lawler vs. somebody and a Dundee vs. somebody to spice the card up. This is really gimmick heavy but it's fucking Memphis. If Memphis had a WrestleMania, it would look like this and looking through the 1982 Memphis book, it is quite possible some of those shows were as stacked as this one.

Shogun & Samurai vs. Mason Dixon Connection (3/25/89)

The Nightmares vs. Fire and Flame (7/12/86)

Eddie Marlin vs. Tommy Gilbert (Cowboy Boot Match) (4/4/88)

Randy Savage vs. Rick Rude (9/3/84)

Tommy Rich & Eddie Gilbert vs. Phil Hickerson & The Spoiler (Tennessee Street Fight) (6/25/84)

Jimmy Valiant vs. The Assassin (Hair vs. Mask) (4/2/84)

Austin Idol vs. Stan Hansen (Bunkhouse Match) (10/10/83)

Fabulous Ones vs. Moondogs (6/13/83)

Bill Dundee vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (2/3 falls, Scaffold Match) (6/21/82)

Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantell (Barbed Wire Match) (3/29/82)

Texas is another super hard one once you put down any Freebird or Von Erich. less gimmicky than Memphis but not by much. Another double cage main event like my Mid South dream card. I was going to have matches where Freebirds and Von Erichs fought other guys but thought I would stay true to the Freebird-Von Erich feud and have them fight each other. Plus, midgets, gotta have midgets.

The Fantastics vs. Midnight Express (12/25/84)

Little Mr. T vs. Little Tokyo (3/21/86)

Black Bart vs. Scott Casey (Texas Bullrope Match) (12/1/86)

Chris Adams vs. Gino Hernandez (Hair vs. Hair) (1/27/86)

Abdullah the Butcher vs. Bruiser Brody (8/4/86)

*Intermission*

Iceman King Parsons vs. One Man Gang (Taped Fist Match) (10/6/85)

Buddy Roberts vs. David Von Erich (3/18/83)

Kevin Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy (10/21/83)

Eric Embry vs. PY Chu-Hi (Cage Match) (8/4/89)

Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes (Loser Leaves Town Cage Match) (11/24/83)

The AWA set is a little easier to do because the ace shifts over time. I have Bock-Curt one hour draw as number one but for a ten match card, I went with a shorter main event. It also frees up Curt to have another match on the card. I save the blood for the 2nd half with a couple of indecisive finishes, a decisive world title outcome and the fun manager match. Of course... Midgets.

Paul Diamond vs. Pat Tanaka

Little Tokyo & Lord Little Brook vs. Cowboy Lang & Little Coco

Mr. Saito vs. Curt Hennig

Ken Patera & Crusher Blackwell vs. High Flyers

Rick Martel vs. Harley Race

*Intermission*

Stan Hansen vs. Leon White

Midnight Rockers vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers (4/20/86)

Lord Alfred Hayes vs. Bobby Heenan

Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich

Nick Bockwinkel vs. Wahoo McDaniel

Using everything over history, this can get very interesting.

I will go with my dream card, so others may hate this.

M-Pro 10 Man Tag, These Days '96

Jushin Liger vs. Shinjiro Ohtani, NJPW 3/17/96

Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr., Halloween Havoc '97

Akira Hokuto vs. Kandori, Dream Slam 2

LA Park vs. El Hijo del Santo, the bloodbath match

Bret vs. Austin, Survivor Series '96

CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar, Summerslam 2013

Jerry Lawler vs. Bill Dundee, the one where Lawler falls down the stairs

Ultimate Warrior & Jim Neidhart & Rockers vs. Andre the Giant & Bobby Heenan & Haku & Tully Blanchard, Survivor Series '89

Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair, WM8

There would be a lot of blood on the show. I wanted Andre-Hansen, but wanted the Survivor Series match too, so that was difficult.
