Loss
I have an idea for a new project I want to start in 2016. I want to use the coming week of 10/11-10/17 to test it out and see how it works out in practice so that come January 1, I can hit the ground running. It's called Wrestling 365! If you're like me, you find yourself often wanting to watch wrestling, but feel overwhelmed and do not know where to start, so you never pass go. Well, hopefully this will work for anyone. I know I'm someone who needs variety and this definitely provides that. Anyway, here's how it works. Each day, I want to watch as many matches as I have time to watch from that day in history. So for example, on January 1, I'll watch as many January 1 matches as I can find. On January 2, I'll do the same. And so on. Life happens so if I don't get to watch wrestling one day, I'll just have to catch the matches from the day on Round 2 in 2017. The following year, I'll watch any matches I didn't get to each day, along with anything that warrants a rewatch for whatever reason. Anything where we don't have an exact date can be watched in a more open time period. So if all we know is that a match happened in October, I'll watch it at some point in October. And if all I know is the year (if even that), I'll watch it anytime I have no matches and a little extra time. Here are the matches I have in queue for the coming week. I've been working on lists for a while, but I am really only prepped to catch everything so far through the end of 1987. So I'll list some stuff after that, but I may miss some things. Let me know anything I should add to each day's playlist. And of course, anyone who can point me to more stuff to watch from these dates or who wants to join me is more than welcome. The Match Discussion Archive can be used to post on all of the matches. October 11 Johnny Kwango vs Dave Freeman (Joint Promotions 10/11/75) Mark Rocco vs Steve Grey (Joint Promotions 10/11/78) Mighty Inoue & Higo Hamaguchi vs John Quinn & Randy Rose (IWE 10/11/80) Pete Roberts vs Skull Murphy (Joint Promotions 10/11/82) Ric Flair vs David Von Erich (WCCW 10/11/82) Ric Flair vs Butch Reed (Houston Wrestling 10/11/85) Ted DiBiase vs Bob Sweetan (Houston Wrestling 10/11/85-Taped Fist Match) Ricky Morton vs Ole Anderson (JCP 10/11/86) British Bulldogs vs Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake (WWF 10/11/86) Jumping Bomb Angels vs Devil Masami & Yukari Ohmori (AJW 10/11/87) Akira Maeda vs Nobuhiko Takada (UWF 10/11/88) Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat vs Kenta Kobashi & Joe Malenko (AJPW 10/11/89) Jumbo Tsuruta vs Genichiro Tenryu (AJPW 10/11/89) Kenta Kobashi vs Takao Omori (NOAH 10/11/00) Kawada/Ishikari vs Sasaki/Nakajima (AJPW 10/11/04) Shinsuke Nakamura vs Hirooki Goto (NJPW 10/11/10) Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi vs Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega (NJPW 10/11/10) October 12 Jose Lothario & Al Madril vs Checkmate & Magic Dragon (WCCW 10/12/82) The Assassin vs Butch Reed & Ken Raper (CWA 10/12/83) Chavo & Hector Guerrero vs Fantastics (Houston Wrestling 10/12/84) Tully Blanchard vs Sam Houston (JCP 10/12/85) Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy (WWF 10/12/85) Jerry Lawler vs Rick Martel (CWA 10/12/85) Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee vs Tom Pritchard & Pat Rose (CWA 10/12/85) Terry Funk vs Junkyard Dog (WWF 10/12/85) Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts vs Terry Taylor & Ted DiBiase (UWF 10/12/86-Country Whipping Match) Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs Shinjiro Otani & Takao Omori (NOAH 10/12/01) Satoshi Kojima & Taiyo Kea vs Genichiro Tenryu & Nobutaka Araya (AJPW 10/12/02) KENTA & Takashi Sugiura vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (NOAH 10/12/02) Shinjiro Otani vs Shinsuke Nakamura (NJPW 10/12/09) Masa Chono, Keiji Muto & Kenta Kobashi vs Jun Akiyama, Satoshi Kojima & Manabu Nakanishi (NJPW 10/12/09) Chris Hero vs KENTA (ROH 10/12/09) October 13 Lou Thesz vs Rikidozan (JWA 10/13/57) Bruno Sammartino vs Superstar Graham (WWWF 10/13/75) Dynamite Kid vs Tony Scarlo (Joint Promotions 10/13/77) Hulk Hogan vs Big John Studd (WWF 10/13/84) Sgt. Mad Dog
I would be down with this though there would be days I missed entirely.
Wahoos Leg
sounds fun, although given my schedule and the fact there's so much current stuff I don't watch as is, and older stuff I want to catch up on, one match per day would probably be my goal
soup23
I love this project as I have shared with Loss privately and I think the open ended nature of it is what is great. The wrestling circles I am in have tightened but also in another way widened given the outreach I have with the pods/website. This project creates focus but allows you to set your own restraints. You only want to watch 2000 indies stuff? Great, there is a bevy of stuff from those days to watch. Ditto 70's footage, 80's territories, etc. This allows everyone to be a part of one thread without being constrained to an era/promotion they aren't fond of. In addition, deadlines with these projects can be daunting. This project can be perpetual. If you miss a day, no big deal, catch it again the next year. I'm excited to dive into this. Grimmas
I will dedicate to watch at minimum one match each day in this project!
ohtani's jacket
October 17 Chris Adams vs Dave Finlay (ASW 10/17/81) I hope you won't mind this correction, but All-Star didn't appear on ITV until 1987. Finlay/Adams was Joint Promotions.
Loss
There was a big star in the middle of the ring. I have no idea how to tell the difference otherwise.
ohtani's jacket
I know it's tricky. Usually, the name of the promoter is on the turnbuckle pads. In this case, it's confusing because they say Victoria: Victoria refers to the venue: the Victoria Baths in Nottingham, which was a Morrell and Beresford stronghold. The majority of the time the padding will say Dale Martin, but sometimes the television was taped in other territories such as Relwyskow and Green. But basically it's all Joint Promotions up until 1987 unless it's satellite wrestling on Screensport or Reslo.
WingedEagle
I absolutely love this idea. It remains to be seen how I fit this in within everything else I try to watch and with schedule limitations (i.e. barely home from work in time for Raw, then usually right to bed after that), but if I shoot for one match a day it'll add even more variety to our regularly scheduled programming. Superstar Sleeze
I probably will not participate in this how it was intended. But I love lists of matches to add my master lists! This is wicked bitchin!
El Boricua
You can add the first Colon vs. Hansen match from their 86-87 feud to the list. It was 10/12/86 if I'm not mistaken.
Loss
Will do!
SomethingSavage
Awesome, ambitious idea. There are some days I won't even be able to sneak in a single match, but then there are days where I might attempt to burn through four or five. Neat concept, and I like how it gives reason to explore & discuss some "lesser" matches that might otherwise never be sought out or actively brought up. tjones324
Great idea. I've considered doing something similar before and might give it a try myself.
Loss
Lesson learned from the first day is to watch the matches in order of personal appeal instead of chronologically. I got through three matches yesterday, but hope to do more today.
WingedEagle
Haha I envy your time! Checked off yesterday's box with Morton-Ole and am hoping to tick off Chris Hero-KENTA today, but if not I may cheat a bit as I just watched Freebirds vs. Dibiase & Taylor within the past couple weeks so that's a solid fallback. bradhindsight
I love any project that builds out the robust Match Discussion Archive here. It's great to have a designated place to provide your instant analysis and read others' thoughts as well.
Mad Dog
I thought that Lothario/Madril vs. Dragon/Checkmate match was going to suck but it turned out to be a really fun tag.

Mad Dog
Getting a jump start on tomorrow: Rikidozan vs. Lou Thesz (10/13/1957) Wow, someone found a full copy of this. Awesome. I love Thesz's heeling in this match. Thesz is just perfect in this match as his facial expressions just show a total disdain for the entire affair and he gets some nice cheap shots in and also screws with the referee here and there. This one had a holy shit moment in it as Thesz did an airplane spin and they both got dumped out of the ring. Sad result for Rikidozan as he might have won the belt if he didn't insist on making clean breaks in the ropes during the first fall. I liked this match quite a bit. It had some slow spots but I liked the dynamic they had with each other and when they kicked it up in pace it was fun.
Grimmas
For today there is also a Chono-Hogan match on a NJPW dome show. Probably should be on the list. Also, this could be a very helpful resource going forward. http://www.profightdb.com/this-day-in-history.html It lists all the cards taped on that day. Mad Dog
Bruno Sammartino vs. Billy Graham I didn't care for this. It feels like the entire match was the test of strength or a bear hug. The heat for this match was really good. You could hear some Graham support in the crowd. Hated the ending to this match though.
Grimmas
Got home late and was tired, so just threw on the SNME from October 14, 1989. Actually felt bad I hadn't had time to watch, so made sure I watched something tonight.
Grimmas
I love this. Just watched LA Park vs El Dandy. Great idea Charles. Are we waiting for January for this or is this continuing on from here? It's been so fun I don't want to stop. I am using #wrestling365 on twitter if anybody else wants to join in.
