Reactions to the Honorable Mention List, Part 3

Lucha dies another death.

One thing I want to note that may not be clear to some people. While I find the final results interesting, the key thing for me with this project was that I would be happy with my ballot when all was said and done. Like everyone else I'll complain about the final results, but egotistical or not, the top 100 GWE to me is the ballot I submitted. As such I'm much more annoyed by minor things on my ballot I'd like to change than where HHH ended up, or the fact that lucha is getting hosed.

I hope others can appreciate that the bitching and complaining in this thread is a fun part of the process for many of us, while also understanding that the collective results are naturally going to lead to these sort of responses.

Losing Blackwell and Morgan is not a great way to start the morning.

True that. Pirata barely missed my list, so he's about where I'd have him. But since there's guys I'd have lower yet to come, it still feels sad :-( But That's another great thing about this reveal :-) It just keeps being fun and cool and engaging and frustrating! ... I'm more and more convinced I won't be the high vote on anyone though.

Totally agree with everything in this post.

The reactions to the lucha names make me feel guilty. I did not have the time to check luha eyond the consensus GOATs, so I was too ignorant to rank them. Lucha and WoS will be my priorities; hopefully, there is a 2026 poll as well.

A few things.

Hogan was a major part if two HUGE booms for wrestling in the U.S. during his run. The fact that he rode both booms right into the ground should work against him for sure. But he was the reason people tuned in to wrestling in the first place. So he deserves to be this high. Oh, and I HATE Hogan, so please let him fall sooner rather than later.

The whole HHH drama got way overdone. Hate the guy all you want, but don't make it into something that supports the idea of HHH he likes to propagate. My personal choice involves ignoring the fact that he exists. Much less stress for me and doesn't play into HHH's supposed importance. Brilliant reveal and build to it though. Which leads me to:

Grimmas you magnificent, carny bastard. Saddest thing for me is that you aren't a pro wrestler or promoter. Seems to me you have been putting in a lot of great work so far on this. And I mean work in a wrestling way just as much as any other way. You know where the highspots are and you build the audience up for them perfectly. Then you present them with the right amount of flair and showmanship. I'm trying to think of a way I'd have the list the way it is revealed that is more entertaining (or pr wrestling!) and coming up empty. Major kudos, sir.

Pirata Morgan as the latest guy to drop isn't really helping this hangover (which, maybe ironically enough, was brought on by Captain Morgan himself).

Black Terry

Kikuchi

Kandori

Reed

Otsuka

Sano

Takayama

Blackwell

Pirata Morgan

All names from my list that dropped since last night, some of whom landed in my top 50. I never really expected Reed to make the top 100, but he's my favourite wrestler ever behind only Eddie Guerrero and I hoped that he would make it to the big dance. He had a good run, though.

32 soldiers from my list have fallen now. Doubt I'll have more than 60 left by the time we hit the top 100.

Also, the HHH reveal was great.

Honestly I really don't like the tone this thread has taken in the last few days. It devolved from discussing peoples placement, who will end up where, who got under/overvalued, giving people ideas on what to watch next and poking fun at some of the oddball choices to senseless bitching about Triple H, because we don't have enough of that on the internet, and almost gleeful malicousness about certain people dropping off the list.

Absolutely. As absurd as the collective ballot may be, my list is the only one I'll look at more than a second as representative, and I already can't certain parts of it :)

Ah I woke up to Blackwell and Morgan gone. What a hell of a run for Blackwell, a guy I don't even think I had heard of more than once or twice before the AWA 80s set and that's been overlooked by certain circles for decades before that. CFCW is a champion for helping him get so far. I've got a feeling many of the next 15 names or so will be brutal for me.

I guess it's a little late to complain about this, but it seems odd to me to have close to 2 years of research and discussion, then allow non-members to waltz in with their lists last minute. I wonder how much that influenced the results?

A lot.

Don't like this. You had to go to the board to know how to vote. You had to listen to podcasts or go to the board to know about the project. You had to spend time putting together a list of 100 great wrestlers. I don't think any of this leads to someone waltzing in and going 1) HBK 2) Angle 3)... hmm.. Rock and so on.

If you found out about this project and went through the voting process (let's face it, it's not a few minutes job to fill out that form) then your vote is worthwhile.

Just because people have gaps you don't have, doesn't mean they have sunk this project or anything. This list will probably reflect hardcore fandom really well and if only 4-10 luchadores make the top 100, that is fine.

You could be 100% right. Or wrong. Any opinions on it are valid.
