southofheavy
I think i should sit out this week. I'm working a lot and I still need to get last week's review up.
dawho5
Here's the review for Bret vs Dynamite. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/41132-bret-hart-vs-dynamite-kid-wwf-91485/ I enjoyed it as a look at where both guys were in 1985. And as a look at heel Bret, which I think is a better Bret than as a babyface.
Migs
Catching up from last week - dawho5 gave me this: https://youtu.be/qng13D2kKBo I've watched an embarrassingly small amount of 90s All Japan - heck, I'm not sure I've ever seen Kroffat and Furnas on Japanese soil, only their (not good) stuff on this side of the pond. I don't think I've ever seen Kikuchi before. Love the fire early on, with the elbows in response to Kroffat's slap. The fans are super into this guy. Also, his rising sun tights are great. Kobashi is in and this is quite the babyface shine sequence. This is a great match to show people who think Japanese crowds are "quiet" as they are chanting like crazy for the babyfaces from the opening bell. I'm still not loving Furnas here, but Kroffat is much better as a dick heel than he was as a babyface. Interestingly, there's sort of two heat segments here, but both are on Kikuchi, who is pretty great in the FIP role. Great seller, especially with his facials. The second heat segment on him is really fun (particularly when Kroffat is in there). The hot tag to Kobashi is electric. This stays structured longer than an American tag match would, as things don't totally break down after the hot tag, even though we're building to the finish. The crowd really loses it's mind on the near fall after the dropkick doomsday device. Dug the finish, as did the crowd (holy wow what a pop for the moonsault). Really awesome match, glad I got to see this.
Rah
I got two matches this week, and so far I've got through one! Because I had to. It was Cesaro. Matt D you really know me! SirEdger
For you, SPS, I picked Kazuo Yamazaki vs Norman Smiley from the UWF (11/06/1988) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojVKp88T_Yc Awesome! I love Newborn UWF and have all their shows but haven't watched any of them in almost 2 years now so this will be fun to rewatch. I loved Norman Smiley here and Yamazaki is always been a treat. For SirEdger I'll give you Fit Finlay vs Masaharu Funaki from Reslo, although I've never found out the date of this match I really enjoyed these two together here and wish I had more of Funaki in Europe. Alright, finally was able to watch the match SPS gave to me about 2 weeks ago between Fit Finlay and Masaharu Funaki from Reslo. That was my first ever match I watched from Reslo. I have no clue who was Finlay's valet in this one but she was of no importance in this one since she didn't interfere at any moment. I've also not watched a whole lot of European style wrestling so I'd say that this was pretty enjoyable to watch. Nothing overly complicated, just two guys trying to beat the snuff out of each other coupled with some very good chain wrestling in key spots. I got a particular kick out of Funaki completely no-selling an eye poke from Finlay at one point. Overall, for an introduction to Reslo, I think it was pretty fun. I'll sure try to find some more stuff from Masaharu Funaki in the future. As for the date itself, I would probably venture a guess that this is in the early 90s but I wouldn't bet any money on it lol I shall be able to resume my Secret Santo watching this week but I'll let you know by Tuesday if I jump back in this week. Matt D
Rah had me watch Cesaro vs Kofi from the 5/1/13 Main Event. Long match, incredible Cesaro performance. SPS
Okay for laz I'll give him a match I just watched for myself yesterday after hearing Kris and Bix talk about it on Between The Sheets and I really enjoyed it, Takehiro Murahama vs. Minoru Tanaka (4/20/2001) from NJPW. I know little about both guys although I am familiar with Tanaka and they were both fantastic here and I'd love to see more from Murahama as he was really slick. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5ozmrr

WingedEagle
WingedEagle I'll change the match if watching Benoit is a problem. Thanks, haven't seen this in years and never a bad reason to watch some Austin from that era. Not sure what I'll take from a Benoit match at this point but don't mind sitting through it. It looks like you've seen a bit of one of my favorite wrestlers over the last few years in Shuji Ishikawa, so I've linked below the latest AJPW Tag Title match. The RWTL version of this from December seemed to get a bit more praise but I was much higher on this and it may very well be my favorite tag match of the last few years. Don't be intimidated by the video length as its in the 20-25 minute range. https://rutube.ru/video/3e21b1dacffa703db91ac9d4e622611e/

NintendoLogic
For Nintendo Logic: I enjoyed this quite a bit. It was a nice look back at the days when lucha was primarily an arena (or gym, in this case) attraction rather than a TV product. Casas was undoubtedly the star of the show. I've never viewed him as a strong offensive wrestler, which is part of the reason I'm not nearly as high on him as some. But everything he did here looked crisp and impactful. In addition, his stooging in between the first and second falls was something to behold, and he took a pretty nutty bump off the top rope in the third fall. Dandy was his usual reliable self. Piloto and Loverboy busted out some impressive proto-Richochet/Ospreay acrobatics, and Kung Fu had some nice strike combinations. El Brazo...well, he threw a chair. There's some furthering of the Piloto/Loverboy feud at the end, but for the most part, this is the equivalent of a send-the-crowd-home-happy house show match. SPS
For Jetlag Minoru Suzuki vs Masaakatsu Funaki (UWF 15/04/1990) https://youtu.be/-Xz0n0e2SIs I wished they took this to striking but I think you'll like the matwork here. I love this match and the reason it was grappling only was it was Funaki's return from a broken arm a few months prior when he was preparing for the U-Cosmos show against Maurice Smith(Minoru Suzuki took his place and was KO'd) so they probably didn't want to risk him taking a blow directly to the arm and re-injuring it. In story I guess it made sense for a guy coming back into the full contact world of what UWF was promoted as being a real match to have a warm up bout to shake off the rust. dawho5
Nintendo Logic gave me this match for the week. Review is here. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/41166-takako-inoue-vs-mariko-yoshida-81891-ajw/ Overall a good natch dragged down by time constraints and some lapses in selling. Still a nice helping of joshi that is less go-go-go in the appropriate places and I like that.
