Alvarez updates are always funnier to me since I always read them as if Bryan was reading it out loud in his usual exasperated-at-everything voice.

Bryan's voice is unbearable.

I especially hate it when he starts a sentence with "People, listen...". You know you're in for some OUTRAGE when he utters those words

From Alvarez on the tuesday update:

-- Speaking of Hogan, the Pontiac Silverdome, the site of WrestleMania III with Hogan vs. Andre, sold today for $583,000. I am not making that figure up. A half million dollars. A completely ridiculous price. So ridiculous that we should have run a fund-raiser on this site and all got together to purchase it. Where I went to elementary school, right across the street they are building a new development and all of the houses there will sell for more than the Pontiac Silverdome. And where I went to high school there is a new development across the street, right next to some horse stables, actually, which you would think would bring down the price, that are going to sell for close to double the price of the Pontiac Silverdome.

It IS a low price, but I think if Alvarez factored in that there are probably a lot of structural upgrades needed at this point, and there isn't any sort of regular tenant affixed to it to pay rent that I know of, he probably wouldn't be so blown away by that number.

I mean, you buy it, but what do you use it for? Probably you tear it down and use the land for some sort of shopping mall or other new project. Tearing it down would cost big bucks, too.

I just found his reaction funny.

Not to mention the real estate situation in Michigan (with Pontiac being no exception) as a whole.

Good blog covering the sale of the Dome (including the mention of soccer possibly being there, as Boondocks mentioned) and the ugly real estate situation as a whole:

No tennant. 127 acres is of value, but you have to pay to detroy the current building and clean up the land (i.e. the parking lots, building relating piping, etc.). Then have capital to build on it, at a time when the CRE Loan business is blow up. Then have someone ready to move in, at a time when the MI economy is in the tank and there is existing CRE inventory out there to grab if one wanted it (and will be even more as vacancies increase). Mix in property taxes.

One gets the feeling that the "$20M offer" from the prior year wasn't $20M cash at the date of purchase with no other strings attached. The city at this point was literally giving the property away to get it off their books, which gives one a good idea that prior potential buyers were looking for a lot of give backs for whatever they were willing to cough up to "pay" for the land.

Man alive, I saw Richards vs Shingo the other day and it was absolutely incredible. It's right up there with the first KENTA vs Nakajima match for the match of the year. I knew Richards had improved as seen in the KENTA match earlier this year but I didn't realise he had become this great. I notice they're promoting him as the new best in the world after Dragon leaves to go to the WWE and well, yeah after this I'll certainly buy into that especially with KENTA on the shelf. Charisma, athletic ability, inner drive, selling and match structure. What else can one want?

In light of recent events involving his family, it reminded me of something I always wondered about Afa. Was there a reason he left the WWF and Sika stayed? They were a team for so long it was odd to see Sika as a JTTS and fill-in guy when someone would no show.

If I had to guess, Afa likely wished to devote time to his wrestling school.

I thought of that, but then Afa did come back to manage for a short time.

Something that occurred to me this afternoon:

Back at the 2001 WCW Greed PPV card Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger lost in seconds to Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire. I remember some on the Internet being outraged by this, saying Buff and Lex deserved to be fired.

What the hell happened?

I seem to recall it being something about they didn't want to to the job and it ended up being a quick joke match.

The Wild Samoan Training Center started in the late 1970s. Its location has changed over the years, by the way.

I think Sika returned to WWF in late 1986 after The Wild Samoans left in early 1985 (or early 1986?). So it's not like Sika stayed and his brother Afa left. It's more like Sika returned to the WWF in September 1986 (until April 1988) and Afa returned to the WWF in mid/late 1992 (until mid 1995). And I think it's definitely possible that there were times where Afa wanted to concentrate more on the training center.

This should be interesting. A large part of the internet crowd hates Cena with a passion, yet they feel obliged to hate Sheamus because he's a Friend of Hunter.

Also those same folks constantly decry the WWE for not pushing any new blood into the main event, yet when they do so there are complaints that the guy they push isn't any good and/or doesn't deserve to be pushed.

It's the internet. Whoever wins, they (think they) lose.

Wow, Vince must have been really pissed to see a host on RAW bomb so badly, especially one espousing the same political views he has. It was kind of funny to see him being all "liberals, amirite?" to a crowd of wrestling fans in Texas and getting crickets as a reaction. He must have really been yelling in the headsets too, since "Dennis Miller must be writing your jokes" became everyone's comeback to a corny one liner.

Lawler doing his fake laugh at Miller's shit made it even worse. I mean, there's crickets in the crowd, and Lawler was losing his shit on some of that.

That was definitely one of the oddest Raw's I've seen. Not bad, not really good, just interesting.

I haven't watched Raw regularly in years, but from what I've seen of Sheamus he's stunningly average. In a company where Christian and others get no real chances in the spotlight it's a shame to see guys like Sheamus and Drew Mcyintyre getting pushes. After seeing how they fucked over MVP and how they're going to do the same to Kofi I've realized that they didn't learn from what they pulled with guys like RVD, Jericho, and Booker T several years ago. When WCW did things like this people online complained and still do to this very day but when the WWE does it all of a sudden there's a whole bunch of excuses. Me, when I watch wrestling I would like not to see backstage nonsense affecting what I see on my TV.
