With some more experience, the Lawmen could do pretty well. Wrestling teams like the Sheepherders will give them just that.

Kaz took one heck of a fall!

It's going to be hard to beat Rob with Ron around.

WOW! After one heated feud, Debeers beats Brody for the US title! Tully will answer for this at the Bash. Debeers holding the US title is going to be nuclear heat.

Ashville,

Prichard and Morgan are heading for a wild gimmick match.

Strong finish for SSM.

The Trinity have a strong grip on those 6 man titles.

No way Tough Guy Inc were going to let the Buffalo Soldiers have a chance at gold.

30 minutes of Flair and Taylor is a great way to end the night. Their Bash match might steal the show.

Match #1

"Wildcat" Wendell Cooley defeats Zodiac with a running Bulldog. AoD & Jason attacked after the bell. This brought out the other Lawmen and the ensuing brawl needed to be broken up by security.

Match #2

"Manic Matt Borne w Number One Paul Jones defeats Big Hoss McGraw with a "Stump puller". Jones join Mooney and says not only does he accept the challenge to Wargames he offers the opposition to send someone to fight his "African killer" Kamala and fight for the advantage.

The Rock n Roll Express join Mooney and they put over the series of matches they've had with The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. They say the Andersons have given them some of the toughest fights of their career but the results have been inconclusive. They say they need to know who the better team is so their offering the Horsemen one more chance at The Great American Bash!

Match #3

Non title.

The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeat The Carolina Bobcats with a double dropkick on Bobcat #1. After the match The Andersons as well as JJ Dillon walk down to the ring. JJ grabs the mic and says on behalf of his clients he gladly accepts the Express' invitation to humiliate them in front of a worldwide audience and become NWA World Tag Team Champions while they do it. Behind them Arn Ole make the "belts around their waists" gesture and we go to commercial on a tense state down.

Match #4

"The Doctor of Desire Tom Prichard defeats Luke Williams w/Jr Foley with the Superkick. Prichard grabs the mic and challenges Rip Morgan to finally settle their score at the Great American Bash where he vows to slay The Monster....in No Holds Barred. Foley's response is a stern nod.

Match #5

Super Strong Machine defeats The Arab Assassin with the "Devil Windmill" suplex. He hands Mooney a note which says as Team Captain he himself will step up next week to face Jones' "tamed beast".

Footage from last week's show in Huntington which saw Col Debeers become the new NWA United States Champion. Mooney brings out the man himself and the boos are deafening. Debeers says this marks a glorious new era of the US title as it's finally held by a man of class and dignity who can serve as a "role model to the disheveled rabble of this country". He says he is a magnanimous man however so at the Great American Bash he's issuing an open challenge to any American who thinks they can take this title from him.

"The Ugandan Giant Kamala w/"Number One" Paul Jones & Friday defeats The Pearl after beating him senseless then throwing him out of the ring for the count-out.

The debuting Michael "PS" Hayes defeats The Mongolian Mauler with a DDT. Hayes takes the mic and says nothing matters to him more than family, weither it's family of blood or spirit. And that's why it pains him to see his brother in arms Jimmy Garvin go to war with his blood family in Ron. Says he came to the NWA to help bring this family feud to an end which is why when Jimmy & Ron meet one more time at the Great American Bash he'll be the special guest referee!

Main event. If Brown wins he gets a NWA Heritage Title match at The Great American Bash.

"Pitbull Kerry Brown defeats The Gatekeeper Jimmy Golden w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller with a Powerbomb after Golden was distracted watching Bill Kazmaier carry Ron away on his shoulders!

I think the Lawmen are heading for a 6 man title showdown with the Trinity.

Jones is very confident heading into Wargames.

RnR vs. The Andersons at the Bash. Bring it on!

Oh yea! Prichard wants Morgan in a no holds barred match! Foley says NO, but I bet Morgan's all for it.

SSM is confident as well, heading into Wargames. This is going to be intense!

I hope Debeers knows what he's getting himself into.

Patriots earn a shot at the New Breed. The Bash keeps getting better.

Worldwide,

Always like seeing the SPC get in a nice showcase.

Kamala destroys another poor soul.

Hmmmmm, I'm a little suspicious of Hayes.

LOL, finally somebody takes care of the Mastermind. Good job Kaz! Pitbull gets his shot.

Fun week.

Really looking forward to the Great American Bash.  The Rock n Roll Express vs The Andersons will be great.  I think Michael Hayes back in the NWA gives you an awesome mouth piece.  What he lacked in the ring he more than made up for it on the mic.  He will add a lot to your shows.  Col. DeBeers as the U.S. Champion is a great way to bring him even more heat.  Great booking.

Bring on the Bash... Michael Hayes is here and he fits right in... plus now he plays a role with Garvin and Garvin... I smell something fishy.  There are plenty of big matches at the bash but I am most excited about the Garvins, Rock N Roll v Andersons, and then the Flair and Taylor matches.  Looking up and down the card... not too many spots for people to afford to miss.

Airing live on Pay Per View from the District of Columbia Stadium in Washington DC on 7/4/88, The National Wrestling Alliance proudly presents.....

image.png.8c1b7c460e147107bc3ad9dd3518a699.png

*The show begins a moment of silence for Jr Foley who passed away on the 24th of last month*

"World's Strongest Man Bill Kazmaier & Buffalo Soldiers (Ranger Ross & Brickhouse Brown vs The Stud Stable (Jimmy Golden, Don Bass & Big Daddy Cyrus) w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller.

This six man tag was announced on the latest addition of Worldwide and mainly serves as a companion to the Heritage Title match later in the card. Kazmaier's freakish strength was a repeated highlight and played into the finish, seeing him scoop up Cyrus before ramming him into a cornered Bass then slamming him down for the win. After the match Ron Fuller & Jimmy Golden looked at the fallen Tough Guy Inc before leaving without them. As they did so, the camera picked up Fuller saying "I told you they weren't no Studs!"

Winners: Bill Kazmaier and Buffalo Soldiers!

NWA United States Tag Team Titles.

The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal)(c) vs The Patriots (Firebreaker Chip & Todd Champion)

Both teams had a similar dynamic with a bigger stronger man teaming with a shorter scrappy partner. Both big men took turns hossing their smaller opponent around. Eventually the two big men paired off which got a warm reception from the crowd. The champs had Chip in position for the "Wave of the Future" but (Todd) Champion shoved (Chris) Champion off the top rope and he collided with Royal. Chip used the money momentum from that to plant Royal with a DDT for the surprise three count!

Winners and NEW NWA United States Tag Team Champions: The Patriots!

Indian Strap Match.

"Chief" Wahoo McDaniel vs "Chief" Joe Lightfoot

The Battle to determine the one true "Chief" of the NWA is up next. McDaniel enters to a huge ovation while Lightfoot comes down to a torrent of boos. The two combatants beat the tar out of each other with McDaniel being busted open about halfway through. The end sees Wahoo use the strap to bound Lightfoot and drag him along as Wahoo touches the first three corners with Lightfoot touching as he's being dragged behind him. As they approach the final turnbuckle, Lightfoot initiates a struggle which allows him to flip over in front of Wahoo. They start trading blows until Wahoo delivers a jawbreaker which causes Lightfoot to stagger backwards into the final turnbuckle. The ref calls for the bell to McDaniel's initial confusion and the fans anger.

Winner: Joe Lightfoot

NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles.

The Celestial Trinity (Zodiac, Jason the Terrible & Angel of Death)(c) vs The Lawmen (Wendell Cooley, Billy Joe Travis & Doug Gilbert)

The Trinity seem to have a deathgrip on the six man titles but The Lawmen seem to have their number over the past couple of weeks. The champs used every trick they had and seemed to have it locked when AoD had Cooley lined up for the "Death Sentence" but Cooley ducked and the mountain of a man crashed to the mat. The "Wildcat" immediately pounced with a running Bulldog and for the second match in a row we had new champions.

Winners and NEW NWA Six Man Tag Team Champions: The Lawmen!

NWA Heritage Title.

"Tennessee Stud Robert Fuller)(c) w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller vs "Pitbull" Kerry Brown

This is just a fun match with two big beefy boys slapping beef. Ron gets caught trying to interfere and ejected. Robert still gives a good account of himself but commits a fatal mistake when he goes for a running boot to a cornered Brown only for Kerry to move causing Fuller to get tangled up on the top rope. Brown comes up behind and manages to bring the champ down in a Powerbomb for the third title change of the night.

Winner and NEW NWA Heritage Champion: Kerry Brown

No Holds Barred

"The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard vs "The Monster" Rip Morgan

Morgan actually gets a smattering of cheers, presumably out of sympathy for losing his manager but he pointedly does not care. As for the match itself, they brawl in the ring, they brawl around the ring, they brawl in the aisle and they brawl in the crowd. Give Morgan credit he took everything Prichard dished out and came back for more with the Doctor having to deliver a Superkick with a chain wrapped around his foot to keep the Monster down.

Winner: Tom Prichard

Special Guest Referee: Michael "PS" Hayes

"Rugged" Ron Garvin vs "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin w/Precious

Without a doubt, everyone was holding their breath, looking for the first sign of duplicity from Hayes. But as the match went on, he seemed content to call the match right down the middle. The moment of truth came when Jimmy got frustrated and had Precious slide him a chair. He goes to pick it up but Hayes stands on the chair preventing him! Jimmy asks what the hell Hayes thinks he's thinking but Hayes just slides the chair back out and says "You don't need this Jimmy Jam". A heated Jimmy turns around into a "Hands of Stone" punch and Hayes doesn't making the three count.

Winner: Ron Garvin

*After Jimmy gets up, he gets in Hayes face asking what happened. Hayes gives a speech saying Jimmy may be his family but Ron is Jimmy's family, his blood, what is Jimmy trying to prove. Says Jimmy lost because he let himself get distracted not because of anything Ron or himself did. He tells Jimmy to be a man and shake Ron's hand. Jimmy hesitates and Hayes gets a "shake his hand" chant going which causes Ron to cautiously hold his hand out (while keeping the other in a closed fist). Jimmy is surprised and looks to Hayes one last time. Hayes says "be the man i know you can be Jimmy Jam!" which causes Jimmy to take Ron's hand to a huge pop! Hayes proudly hugs Jimmy and they leave together so Ron can have his moment*

Open challenge for the NWA United States Title.

Col Debeers(c) vs ?

No sympathy cheers here as Debeers stoically marches to the ring with the title over his shoulder. He hands it to the ref and patiently waits for his challenger insulting the audience the whole time until his vitriol is cut off by some very familiar music....

"Ooh, let's go.... Steve walks warily down the street...With the brim pulled way down low... Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet... Machine gun ready to go"

The surge that's going through the arena goes into overdrive with the official introduction of the challenger.. the Junkyard Dog!

The Dog wastes no time and goes right after the imperious South African. What follows isn't pretty but it gets the crowd into it as the two men batter each other. They get so heated the fight spills to the floor and neither man even seems to notice them being counted out.

No Winner.

NWA World Tag Team Titles

The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(c) vs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon

A climatic seesaw battle that pitted the hard-nosed grit of the Andersons against the never say die determination of the Express. The Andersons seem to be on the verge of retaining the gold when a rare misque sees Arn hitting Ole with an ax handle from the second rope. The shock of his mistake lead to Double A eating a double dropkick from the champs to retain.

Winners and STILL NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Rock n Roll Express.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs "Terrific" Terry Taylor w/JJ Dillon

To the surprise of literally nobody, this is by far the best match on the card in terms of pure technical ability. Flair and Taylor put on a absolute wrestling clinic while still showing plenty of spite to each other. Early in the match Taylor uncovers one of the turnbuckles but it doesn't get used immediately and one could be forgiven for forgetting about it. Flair may well have done just that when he tried to lock in the Figure Four only for Taylor to kick him off into the exposed steel! Flair barely staggers up only to immediately be put back down with the "Five-arm" for the 1...2...3.

Winner: Terry Taylor

Taylor isn't done yet and positions a barely conscious Flair's head against the ring post before retrieving a chair. He winds up and crashes the chair into the side of Flair's head with a sickening crack. Security grab Taylor and immediately escort him from the building as Flair is put on a stretcher.

NWA World Heavyweight Title

Tully Blanchard(c) w/JJ Dillon vs Bruiser Brody

Blanchard showed visible trepidation at the thought of locking up with the towering madman and engaged in stalling tactics that riled up the fans nearly as much as they did Brody. Eventually the challenger got tired of playing around and chased the champ back into the ring. From there, Tully used his superior wrestling skill to try and halt the relentless giant but Brody made him fight for every the advantage every minute of it. Finally Brody was able to incapacitate Blanchard long enough for the "King Kong" Knee Drop. The ref starts the count but Dillon flies into the ring and breaks up the pin at the last possible second! When the result is announced, Brody is infuriated and nearly boots Dillion's head clean off!

Winner: Bruiser Brody. Still Champion: Tully Blanchard

Let the WARGAMES.... Begin!

Super Strong Machine & The Super Destroyer start us off with the two masked men spending the next five minutes beating each other black and blue until Nightmare #1 enters the cage. SSM shows plenty of fighting spirit and manages to hold out just long enough for Mark Youngblood to come in to even the odds. They square off in a de facto tornado tag until Nightmare #2 comes in and the two Nightmares teamwork decidedly turns the tide in the Army's favor and when Hiroshi Hase enters, his teammates are really in no place to help at first. Just as their able to regroup, the cage opens and Mat Borne enters. The self proclaimed Maniac seems right at home ramming each of his foes headfirst into the steel. Mark Youngblood is the next vict..er... entrant and the teamwork between he and his brother is able to give the fan favorites some breathing room but that comes to an end with the entry of Kamala. The Ugandan Giant goes berserk on his opponents, flooring them with chops, headbutts and slams. Just before the final stage begins, Kamala splashes all the fallen members of the opposing team one after another. Finally the buzzer sounds and Keiichi Yamada enters to a huge pop. His speed & agility allow him to evade the initial 5-1 bumrush until his comrades can recover. Eventually all 10 men are up and beating the shit out of each other. Kamala stands out in the chaos as he constantly is able to get the best of any 1-1 situation he finds himself in. Regrettably for the Paul Jones Army, it seems Hase picks up on this an instead focuses his efforts on one of the Nightmares, eventually locking in the "Scorpion Death Lock" for the submission victory.

Winners: Super Strong Machine, The Zero Fighters &: The Renegade Warriors!

It wouldn't be July without the Great American Bash. Let's do this!

Fun way to start the night with Kaz and the Buffalo Soldiers getting a satisfying win over the Stud Stable. Probably wasn't a fun night for Cyrus.

Didn't see this coming as the Patriots pull off a huge upset and win the US tag titles. Well, this just got the Patriots over in a big way.

I was really looking forward to the strap match and it delivered! This was so well built up. I liked the booked finish. Wahoo looks strong but Lightfoot gets the big win. I think there's a lot of value in Lightfoot right now. You've made him a real player.

The Lawmen end the Trinity's dominant reign. Cooley, Travis and Gilbert turned out to be a very cohesive unit.

Bad night for the Stud Stable as the Pitbull puts down Fuller. Kerry's gotten some love in this game and it's good seeing him hold gold again.

Foley got a nice salute tonight and his antics will be missed. I loved the finish here, so creative. Prichard finally puts a stamp on one wild feud.

YES! The family feud match! One of the best feuds in the game comes to an end. Hayes actually plays it fair and talks sense into Jimmy Jam. Nice seeing all this end with a handshake.

Huge surprise as JYD shows up to fight Debeers! This could be the start of something big.

Once again, RnR and the Andersons put on a classic. Thanks to a miscue, RnR retains. I wonder if the NWA has another family feud on their hands.

Terry Taylor's stock has sky rocketed after what he just did to former world champ Ric Flair. Flair even does the stretcher job. This was a big deal.

Tully takes a beating and Dillion almost gets decapitated. Yet, Tully manages to walk away with the title. Tully plays this role so well. Props to you for giving Brody a great run.

After all that, we get the War Games! Kamala looked like an absolute beast and Hase saw this and did the smart thing by going after a Nightmare and securing the win. The fans get to go home happy.

This was one heck of a show! Double thumbs up!

Nice win for Chip and Champion over a young but pretty good team in Champion and Royal to win the US title

I was surprised by the finish of the Garvin Garvin match.

JYD was a pleasant surprise and gets right into a big program with DeBeers. Should be a good one.

Terry Taylor with a big win and Bruiser Brody with a last hurrah but falling short against Tully Blanchard.

Awesome event with so many great moments.

I thought JYD coming in against DeBeers was a great moment!

I was a little surprised that Lightfoot got the win over Wahoo but I loved the creative ending in the Strap Match.

Kerry Brown with a big win over Fuller.  I wonder if Fuller has reached his pinnacle in the NWA.  Same can be said for Flair in the NWA.

Interesting ending to the Garvin bout.  Jimmy, Ron and Michael Hayes will be an interesting team.  I wonder of they are coming after Tully and the Wrecking Crew which both had huge wins!

Awesome ending with WarGames!!

From the Dorton Arena in Raleigh NC.

Previously recorded & airing on 7/8/88 on the USA Network.

On Commentary: Gordon Solie

Ring Announcer/Interviews Sean Moony

Match #1

"The Haitian Sensation Tyree Pride vs Brad Anderson w/Ole Anderson & JJ Dillon

Notable by his absence, Arn Anderson was nowhere to bee seen as his cousin entered the ring. A exciting contrast in style came to an end when Brad rolled through a crossbody attempt and applied the Fujiwara armbar for the submission victory.

*JJ Dillon joins Moony after the match. Mooney brings up the chair shot to a prone Flair by Terry Taylor and reveals that Flair suffered damage to his neck and a third degree concussion. He also says that Taylor was suspended indefinitely, Dillon interrupts and says that was the plan but Taylor refused to be treated in such a disrespectful fashion and quit on principle. Mooney is understandably shocked but manages to inquire where Arn is. Ole cuts in and says Arn was so shaken by what happened at the Great American Bash, he decided to take some personal time with Ole's support. Mooney points out that there was a scheduled rematch for the main event. Ole says there will be a tag title match tonight with the Express defending against The Four Horsemen as agreed upon. Mooney tries to clarify but the trio walk away*

Match #2

Brett "Hack" Sawyer defeats Firecracker with a German suplex.

*Junkyard Dog joins Moony and the fans are hyped to see him back. He says the last time he was in the region he was in a bad place and was listening to the wrong people. He promises that Big Daddy Ritter is gone for good and the Junkyard Dog is here to stay. Says Col Debeers has insulted the Dog's country and the Dog's people one time to many and he won't stop until he's got the United States Title back around the waist of a real American*

Match #3

Junkyard Dog defeats Oleg Orlov with the "Thump"

Match #4

The South Pacific Connection (Siva Afi Cocoa & Samoa) vs The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams)

If anyone excepted the loss of their manager to mellow The Sheepherders out, they were sadly mistaken. The rugged kiwi's were completely unleashed and the SPC had to dig deep to keep from being overwhelmed. Eventually things got so out of control the ref had no choice but to throw the match out.

Match #5

"The Ugandan Giant" Kamala w/"Number One" Paul Jones & Friday defeat Gold, Silver and Bronze Knights by piling them up and hitting "Air Africa"

*Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, Precious & Tom Prichard join Mooney and Hayes says it's good to get the band back together baby! Says The Freebirds are representing everywhere from Memphis Tennessee to Dallas Texas and know the three of them are bringing the party to the NWA. Mooney asks Jimmy about Ron and Garvin replies that he & Ron had a long overdue heart to heart and whatever comes next he can honestly say their issues have been laid to rest and now he can focus on being there for his brothers*

Match #6

Michael "PS" Hayes defeats Kent Brockman with a DDT.

Main Event. NWA World Tag Team Titles.

The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(c) vs The Four Horsemen (Ole Anderson & ?) w/JJ Dillon

Dillon has a grin the Cheshire cat would admire as he takes the mic and introduces the latest addition to the Four Horsemen, the man who's going to help Ole bring the World Tag Team Titles back where they belong... the seven time NWA World Heavyweight Champion *a gasp fills the arena* the one...the only...Harley Race! The fans are stunned as the legendary champion makes his way into the ring. He & Ole give the champs a lesson in the old-school style and their combined experience keep their opponents on edge throughout. Eventually the champions manage to quicken the pace and it looks like they may have tired the challengers out. Sensing the titles slipping away again, Dillon gets on the apron as Gibson has Race pinned with a sunsetflip. With all the attention on Dillon, there's an initial burst of confusion when Morton is yanked off the apron and rammed into the post. It's only when the man gets in the ring and nails Gibson from behind with a Lariat that the camera is able to get a good look at.....BOB ORTON! The Cowboy slips out of the ring as Race shakes the cobwebs loose to tag in Anderson. One Spike Piledriver later, we have new World Tag Team Champions!

Brad looks like a true Anderson.

Wow, looks like the Horsemen are going through some changes. Taylor's gone and Arn is on a leave of absence. I'm very interested in watching all this play out.

JYD is back! Him feuding with Debeers is going to bring in serious cash.

Sheepherders are as savage as ever. Props to the SPC for surviving.

Kamala is in beast mode!

The Freebirds are back and united. I thought Prichard was a great choice to fill in the gap. I'm glad this version is back.

I was interested in watching all this play out and oh man it didn't take long. Harley and Orton have had a lot of success in our world this past year and now they've arrived in the NWA...as Horsemen! Add to that, they have gold! This really is going to be interesting.

Worldwide,

Aces High, great name.

I liked what you've done with Whatley in the past and can't wait to see how he does in the NWA. I've always been a big fan of his.

Now that his family issues are resolved, I wonder what's next for Rugged Ron. I assume Fuller is officially done with Cyrus.

You gave Brody one heck of a final run.

You're so quick and efficient with these shows. I like Aces high... good use there...  I appreciate the way that you're handling Brody. I had Gino when he died years ago and its tough to do it the right way even though that person's world would be different.  Good handling of the Horsemen shakeup. Then we bring out Harley Race to team with Ole...  the old dogs are looking for one more run. I think that Hayes, Ron, Jimmy, and Tully are going to be some serious names to follow as we ed 1988.

One of my favorite weeks in the NWA.  I really liked the way you wrote off Flair, Arn and Terry Taylor.  It was so simple.  We always seem to rush to the Loser-Leave-Town matches but, in my opinion, this should be saved for the greatest of feuds and stars.

Also, I am so excited for the JYD-Col. DeBeers angle.  This is going to be awesome!

At this stage of the game, Harley and Ole seems like a grumpy marriage made in heaven.  I once heard Ole do a shoot interview on his younger days which he spent with Harley.  He talked about how how he would ride from town to town with Harley and Harley only had one speed; 85!  It was hilarious.  On a highway... 85.  On a two lane road... 85.  Through a small town ... 85.  It was really funny.

Really looking forward to the NWA's version of the Freebirds!

Thanks for all the fun reading material!

Great stuff going on in the NWA. I have always loved the Great American Bash ever since the first one I saw (1986) when I was a kid. I'm really looking forward to this one, Brody vs. Blanchard is going to be a spectacle.  It feels weird for Flair and Arn to be gone, but man I really feel like this sort of thing is what this type of exercise is all about. Tully Blanchard as the top guy in a promotion with no Ric Flair or Arn Anderson around.  He's been great so far and I can only assume he will flourish even more without their shadow being cast.

NWA July Recap.

The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen are certainly riding high in the summer of 88. While the losses of Arn Anderson & Terry Taylor was an undeniable blow, they more then recovered with the addition of seven time World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race and double tough "Cowboy" Bob Orton. Tully Blanchard stands on the top of mountain and since the Great American Bash has been defending the Ten Pounds of Gold against the likes of Tom Prichard, Ron Garvin and another challenger we'll speak of later. Race & Ole Anderson likewise have planted their flag stop the tag team division and are daring any two "young punks" to knock them off. So far, their main challengers have been The Renegade Warriors and The Zero Fighters but there's increasing chatter of reunited Freebirds duo Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin are positioning themselves for a shot. Orton currently stands as the sole Horsemen without gold but the "Ace" has wasted no time positioning himself as a top contender to either the United States or Heritage Titles.

Bash at the Beach.

On the July 16 episode of NWA Worldwide it was announced that the next NWA TV special would be Bash at the Beach which would air from the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach Florida on August 12th. Two huge announcements have been made for the event. It will see the makeup of this year's Starrcade Series as well as the return of the ROAD WARRIORS!

Amassing the troops.

After a gruelling Wargames that saw his Army go down in defeat, Paul Jones has set about (once again) restructuring his unit. The Nightmares' ejection came as no surprise considering one of them had surrendered at the Bash. Somewhat more surprising was the reveal that Matt Borne had decided to move on. Regardless Jones has rebuilt with a vengeance. He's first hire was the "Black Bullet" Shaska Whatley whom Jones has worked with in territories such as WCCW and the AWA. The true shock came when Jones revealed he had signed the increasingly unhinged Sheepherders. Miller & Williams have shown more aggression than ever since the passing of their former manager JR Foley which seems to suit Jones just fine.

The Stud Stable.

Speaking of restructuring, Ron Fuller has released Tough Guy Inc saying they'd "proven they ain't Stud Stable material". In their place he's brought in a pair of muscular specimens from the west coast in the form of "The California Stud" Rod Price and the "Ironman" Tommy Cairo. Another main focus has been Robert Fuller's quest to regain the NWA Heritage Title from Kerry Brown. There have already been a few rematches between the two but due to interference from their various allies, the matter remains unsettled.

New tag teams make waves.

A trio of fresh tag teams have been drawing attention as of late. Aces High consisting of NWA regular Johnny Ace now teaming with his brother Mark have delighted fans with their blend of Johnny's technical skill with Mark's raw power. Another returning face is Fatu, formerly one half of The Islanders, now paired with 400 pound monster Alofa as the Samoan Island Tribe. The duo have declared "tribal warfare" on the entire division. But easily the most imposing duo has been assembled, or more accurately reassembled, by none other than "The Notorious" Ox Baker who has brought in Nord the Barbarian who alongside Rip Morgan have reformed the Beasts of Burden. Fans of the AWA already know the destruction these two can wreak together and they've picked up right where they left off, dismantling several duos before finishing them off with a double boot to the face.

The Raging Bull.

Manny Fernandez is back in the NWA and has made it perfectly clear that he's come back for one thing, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Fernandez had already managed a shot at the Ten Pounds of Gold, winning a battle royal in Richmond allowing him to challenge later in the night. Blanchard escaped with the title in tact thanks to a blatant low blow but Fernandez remains undeterred in his quest for wrestling's top prize.

I enjoyed the recap. You did a great job getting us updated on all the comings and goings.

I'll say this, if you're a young up and comer, Pacific is the place to be. If you're looking to rebuild your career or get a fresh coat of paint, the NWA is where to go. You do an amazing job with the veterans. Race, Orton and Ole prove this.

I like the fresh teams coming in. Muscle Beach, Aces High and Samoan Island Tribe are getting a lot of buzz, and of course Ox Baker's Beasts of Burden are back! I loved writing for them and can't wait to see what you do with them.

Tully's reign is going to be a lot of fun, especially with all the challengers lining up.

Looking forward to the Road Warriors and one of my favorite programs, the Starrcade Series.

The 2nd half of 1988 is looking very bright for the NWA.
