Survivor Series 2014 Reaction Show
fakeplastictrees replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Sable/Tori at WM 14 and Kat/Terri at WM16 (?) were really shitty contests. I feel as if a top 100 bad WWE matches list was ever made, it would NEED to exclude Divas matches as the majority of the Divas matches pre 2002 were absolutely nothing to talk about- only made fun of.- 9 replies

Your ideas for heels that would get over today
fakeplastictrees replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I still believe there is a lot of money in the sensational feminist gimmick. Hassan at one point wasn't saying anything extreme and was talking about how he just wants to live in America and how things changed after 9/11 and how it wasn't fare. He was one of WWE's biggest heels at the time. I think the same type of heat would be generated by this feminist character I have in mind. Again this character wouldn't say ' I HATE MEN!' or be anywhere in the vein of the Spice Girls 'Girl Power'. Instead she will be the type who will tell Daniel Bryan not to say 'hello' to her as its sexual harrasment and try to work to get him fired over it. She will be the type who while having a plesant coversation with Darren Young will get on her soap box if he calls her 'man' or 'dude'. She will have op-eds on WWE.com about how men aren't allowed to approach her unless she gives the go ahead, etc. The gimmick would be extrememly annoying. Who is the face in all of this? Someone like Brie Bella. While the extreme feminist is trying to impose her view and ways in the WWE- Brie Bella comes out to talk rationally. Brie would champion things such as "saying hello isn't a bad thing", etc. etc. This character can REALLY tap into misogyny, misandry, gynocentricism, benevolent sexism, etc. and would begin a lot of social discussion with the audience as people would be split on her. The few that will cheer her will be drowned out by the millions who boo her. I can't believe its 2014 and WWE hasn't done a crazy feminist gimmick. -
As a poster who doesn't follow PWO drama, I can honestly say that I read Rovert's post via the link posted on the first page and I do not see the controversy some are pointing out. I saw no fault in the post. His banning is extremely meta. I read the last few sentences as applying to people who think like that and not really PWO posters who think that like. Anyone who joined the board within the prior 3 weeks of his banning probably wouldn't have thought anything of the post. I think tougher skin is needed.

Again, its not about winning. I'm just curious if you have true alternatives or just being a contrarian. But I won't beat a dead horse as I see you have nothing to offer except criticism.
-
No. Its not about winning. I am just a firm believer that if you call something stupid then you need to present an alternative. My ideas suck. Okay great. You have made the claim that there are a million other ideas for compelling characters. I am asking you for specific examples as I am actually curious. Are you typing just to type or is there something substantial behind your words?
-
Let's see....first, making a heel feminist character would serve to alienate whatever female fan base there is, and draw some pretty bad publicity. That will happen when a company with a horrendous track record regarding treatment and presentation of women takes the time to make a heel out of someone pointing that out. I would guess that George Zimmerman would be cheered by most of the crowd. Kind of like how Zeb turned himself face by being a racist. As for having a wife beating character.....yeah......no. That would not go over well. There is plenty of fertile ground for compelling characters and stories without needing to go for the lowest common denominator of racist and misogynistic bs. Okay. Like what? You have presented no alternatives. I am talking about things that will GRAB the audience and actually touch them. Again people would love to see the person who hates men and actually wants to hold back women (by creating false situations with no true end game) be thrown into a garbage truck and driven out of the arena. I think people would love to see the wife beater put through a flaming table and not seen for 6 months. A Kim Kardashian/Paris Hilton type to piss people off and eventually getting what she truly deserves. A dicussion about the lowest common demonitor cannot be had without talking about pro wrestling. So again I ask, what are the SPECIFIC alternatives that will draw more heat then anything I mentioned. The Piggie James angle was one of the most emotionally invested angles of Diva Division history. Why should stuff like that be kept away from pro wrestling?
-
How is the stuff awful? Is the goal is to get true heat why not tap into what people REALLY hate? Extreme feminism. Racist/homophobs who get away with bullshit, wife/girlfriend beaters, self-centered Kim Kardashian types. If WWE had wrestlers with these traits and made them characters and not caricatures, I think it would be sucessful. WWE likes to compare itself to other dramas, yet refuse to take any of the risks that these dramas take.
-
The majority of WWE heels come off as 'evil' and are one demensional in his/her evilness. One thing I hate are extreme feminist. You know the ones who thinkg saying 'hello!' is a crime and should be stopped at all costs. WWE should looks at REAL HEELS in real life and copy them. Kim Kardashian is a huge heel. She is a woman who has made a career out of who she sleeps with. She has made millions and will continue getting paid. A lot of people don't like her because she wakes up in the morning and gets a big fat check just to live her life. Eva Marie is someone who gets the Kim Heat in WWE. Eva Marie looks good and everyone knows that she is ONLY in WWE because of her looks and nothing else. Now Eva Marie is on a hot reality show where she is in a constant week-to-week battle on being the worse Diva in the company. Who else is a heel? Who else is just NOT over at all? People like Darren Wilson and George Zimmerman. WWE needs to have a character like that. Someone who claims 'self-defense' or some bullshit like that but all of what this person does can be labeled as racist, homophobic, etc. However the actions will need to be kept vauge enough that WWE fans (and media like) will debate who-is-who and what-is-what. I think those are the three biggest heel characters WWE can have. WWE is afraid of REALLY touching nerves and really getting people invested. I know I would LOVE to see George Zimmerman, Darren Wilson, Kim Kardashian, and other famous people get their shit kicked in due to the type of person they are. What about someone an abuse relationship angle that has multiple violent beatings and all white knights are eliminated nice and easy and there is no happy ending with the woman being stretched out and never to return? WWE can/should tap into some really dark stuff because again...who wouldn't want to see the wrestling version of Ray Rice get the shit beat out of him and powerbombed through 3 tables and not seen again until 6 months later?

Nicest person in wrestling
fakeplastictrees replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Why would anyone even run the 'I'm not going to say anything' gimmick? Why even bring it up? You just come off as full of shit. Dustin Runnels is a bad person- I refuse to talk about it. See...nice and easy. Anyone can do it. -

Can't forget about Molly Holly. EVERYONE who talks about her says she is a saint and was too good to be in the wrestling business. Of all the WWE Divas of the past 20 years, I have never heard a bad story about Holly- just all praise -
After last year's performance, I don't know how people can want to see Taker wrestle. The guy has 1 FULL YEAR to recover from any injuires, etc. and he still came in looking/moving like an old man. Taker should just fade out.
-
Batista shouldn't have his retirment match against HHH. If Batista wants to have one more match -- it should be against someone he has never touched in his career: Brock Lesnar. Batista/Lesnar and Sting/HHH at Mania is something I can get behind. Two fresh matches with no obvious outcome.

That cross-body by Naomi was the worst cross-body in PPV history. The only good thing about this match was JBL name-dropping Aja Kong. Sable/Tori at WM14 has it beat by a LARGE margin.

That leads into another question...when did the commentators stop giving a shit? Again I would have to say trickles began in the mid 2000's, but when did the "Fuck It!" mentality come into play. It took TNA YEARS of fucking up before Tenay stopped giving a shit. How long before Cole and company stated phoning it in. What events turned the tide? Mirco-managing can end tomorrow, but if apath remains (and I would say its at an all time)- then the bad commentary will continue.
-
I think this Cole/Tenay Smackdown stuff is getting the hindsight is 20/20 treatment. I remember those guys being TERRIBLE (mainly Taz) and they brought down some really good shows and segments due to it. I think the bad commentary started when people got tired of JR/King/Heyman. JR/Heryman at points LITERALLY put me to sleep while watching Raw. JR/Heyman/King all over-stayed their welcome and that's when the product started showing signs of being stale to me. So this is mid 2000's. As WWE became more and more corporate and started taking its cues from other sports congolmertes like The NBA/NFL/etc. WWE also adopted corporate commentary. What's corporate commentary? Constant social media plugs, shooting out company buzzwords whenever possible, towing the company line, adpating to all social norms and conventions (regardless of how silly it sounds) as to not piss of sponsors etc. Because of that WWE is now looking for people who can do corporate commentary which is why guys like Alex Riley, JBL, Cole, King, Saxton, and others are all at the booth in some capacity and are showing ZERO personality. None of them stand out as being good or deserving of jobs as WWE commentators. They all come off as shills and in my book the best commentators in history came off as marks. Not marks in the Matt Striker "Oh My God dude! I'm marking out!" sort of way. But in the 'Does this guy know wrestling isn't real?' type of way. JR, Vince McMahon, Bobby Hennan (when he gave a shit), Don West, Mike Hogewood, Steve McMichael (YES! YOU READ THAT RIGHT), and others. These guys all came off as passionate and genuinely interested in the product. The same can be said about the PWG commentators at time (those guys are always engaging and PWG MUST be watched with commentary in my house). The current corp of WWE commentators are all shills, have no personality, and are being mirco-managed like shit. There was leaked audio from a WWE show some time ago and you can hear Cole ask Vince if Cole should say 'longest running...etc..." again as he has already said it 'a shit ton of times'. We couldn't hear Vince but we did hear Cole immediately say 'Yes sir!' and continue to repeat that pharse for the new few seconds. WWE also doesn't like personality- look what happened to Abe Washington. He started getting over and had a live mic and made a funny joke and next thing you know- he was fired. WWE has stock and is a corporation. So corporate commentary is here-to-stay. I feel sorry for the kids going up thinking THIS is going commentary and these are the people they will look to mimmick if they were ever in the position to perform commentary for WWE. It's sad.

I am sure the company will allow its contractors to work indies- however the silly TNA terms will still be in play. Guys/Gals have mentioned in the past that TNA would take so much money out that workers don't see any benefit is working the shows and the promoters have to deal with TNA charging extra and being a pain. I find it interesting that both TNA and ROH main TV headquarters are in MD and only about 30-40 minutes from each other. TNA being a studio company that only tours for the big shows (Lockdown, Slammiversary, and BFG) and the UK shows is smart. TNA is going to spend 3 days in Jan filming in NY and that will produce 3-6 episodes of Impact. If TNA is smart they will only really need to do 3 actual shows a month from one location and get close to 2 months worth of programming out of it. This would mean that TNA would only have to do about 20 shows a year or so and will have an entire 52 weeks worth of programming.

I haven't heard the Ricardo shoot, but from his stuff on MLW and other places...everything he says doesn't come off as too incredible. What stuck out to you?

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Did someone touch up those photos or are those the actual colors? If so, why? -
Another fun episode. I love the sign-ins and sign-offs. Billy Gunn gets too much shit. LOL. Gunn should go in the Observer HOF basedly solely off his Cute Kip run in TNA. As a side question, how do you guys spell your names? Is it "Gin" John Chase? Is he an alcholic? Or is it "Jim". Not sure if its a gimmick name or not. The way I 'hear' the names are probably totally incorrect.

I watched the Pillman/Liger match 2 days ago and it doesn't hold up well. Both men appeared to not care about actually winning the match. Both Liger and Pillman passed logical pinning opportunities (and potential victories) in order to do more moves. The finishing stretch of the match reminded me of Style/Lynn at the first TNA show to crown to first X Division champion. And that is NOT a compliment. Styles/Lynn traded hard hitting finishers that meant absolutely jack shit as both continued to kick out of them. Pillman/Liger didn't do it to the extreme of Styles/Lynn, but it was close enough to the pulse that I count it as such. The SuperBrawl II match is extremely over-rated and works well within historical context.

WWE Network should also release a time line of the expected dumps for the quarters. Example: Q1 2015: WWF Attitude Raws 1997-2000 WCW Thunders First 2 years The Bobby Hennan Show WCW Saturday Night The first 3 years If that was announced, people would have an idea what to expect rather then ordering The Network and cancelling because nothing new is coming down the pipe.

I love pocasts and audiobooks. Its about an hour drive (door-to-door) from my house to my gfs. During that time I will catch up on a podcast. When I get home after work and start my 'down time' thats when I usually queue up a podcast or two. And I am known to fall asleep listening to a podcast or audiobook. A few laughs and 'oh that's interesting' and then its right off to la-la land. Right now I am subscribed to Chael's, Austin's, Joe Vs. The World, MLW, Justin Shapiro, Dune Reads Goosebumps, and The Art of Wrestling. I am always looking for new podcasts so if anyone has any recommendations- shoot them my way. Edit: Also anything mundane usually makes me queue up the podcasts as I see it as 'downtime' eventhough I am doing something. Painting my room, dishes, cleaning, etc.

Not sure when Peter Criss's book came out, but that book made me a fan of the band. I have heard of KISS before and I have heard KISS's biggest hits, but didn't really follow them. KISS appearing on Nitro was a big WHY moment for me. WCW was trying its hardest to be WWE in 99 and 00 and everyone in charge was taking Vince McMahons' 'sports entertainment' stuff seriously and I honestly believe there was an honest attempt of doing Rock N Wrestling part II for the 2000's. Master P, KISS, the Nitro DJs, James Brown, etc. KISS was a big waste of time and was one of the signs that WCW had lost COMPLETE focus on its product.

WWE thinks it needs to toss a ton of money at The Network to keep it interesting. Title changes on main event and bringing in doing on off deals would be enough and cost far less than doing 3 new shows. Imagine turning into Main Event and seeing The Tag Team Titles change has and then on Superstars its Tyson Kidd vs. Carlito Cool in a one-night-only type of deal. What if WWE decided to one night have Orton/Kane/Rollins vs. The Wyatts inside a steel cage with War Games rules. This of course would involve WWE restructing Raw and Smackdown on some evenings, but enough 'What the fuck did I miss' moments (that are NOT shown on youtube or wwe.com) will get tons of people curious and keep people like myself (current subscribers) re-upping the subscription.
