  1. I agree, fakeplastictrees, and I look forward to reading your article.
  2. There was this time when I tried to make a very good female friend, who identifies herself as a feminist, start following wrestling. She was a bit apprehensive, but she agreed to give it a shot. One of the first thing she watched was a Vickie Guerrero segment/match, where Jerry Lawler constantly kept making fun of her for being fat and ugly. Bear in mind that this was after she had lost a ton of weight, so not only was it nasty and uncalled-for, it was also stupid and nonsensical. She ignored it the first couple of times, but when, in her words, "that creepy old man who thinks it is totally okay to be fat himself but makes fun of women for being fat and not bangeable enough for him" kept doing the same shit every week for quite some time, she tapped out. She said it would have been okay had her weight been a part of some storyline or added purpose to the matches or the segments, but it wasn't; it was just a commentator being an asshole. A babyface commentator, no less, although I don't think she even knew then that colour commentators are often heel. My point is that the presentation of women in wrestling will have to drastically change, at least as far as WWE is concerned, for feminists in general to start becoming fans. Hopefully, Steph gaining more power means that at the very least, in some time the official WWE humour won't be what an out-of-touch 70 year old man thinks is funny.
  3. Some time ago, some big-shot American corporate dude said that it is not a good thing financially for clubs like Leicester to play in the Champions' League; that it would be more prudent if the old powerhouses kept on qualifying. All I have is anecdotal evidence, but here in India, I have never seen as much interest in Football as I have seen in this dream run for the Foxes. Football is pretty popular in India, but this season has been incredible in terms of people talking about it. Speaking of managers, it would be interesting to see who is more polarising: Wenger or Mourinho. Both have rabid fans and sworn haters.
  4. For all intents and purposes, this is like that time when Santino almost won the world title. Except Leicester have actually won the world title.
  5. Honestly, the comments on the Dylan Cena > 4 Pillars video is much better than I expected. I went in there expecting that someone was going to call him an overgrown kid or a fucking faggot or shit like that.

DMJ, not trying to be a dick at all, but I am curious about you ranking Rock at 7, over many, many other extremely acconplished WWE/WCW workers. Do you think that highly of his brief run?
  7. I don't remember where I saw a thread like this, but it was really entertaining. When I say "everything", I mean it. Other wrestling angles, TV show season endings, movies, life, world wars, Biblical stories, historical events, anything. Michael Corleone goes to a meeting with Virgil Solozzo, secretly intending to kill him. But when he goes to the bathroom, there is no gun. *SWERVE* Clemenza is a traitor! He turns behind to see The Turk smiling at him. "You thought you coild double-cross me, kid?" He draws out a knife, intending to make a statement out of Mikey. But he is shot from behind by the crooked police captain, who *SWERVE* is not just on the Corleone family's side, but is also Michael's lover. They start making out, and by chance Kay Adams sees them. Traumatised, she kills herself, but not before stripping naked, because we must have a objectifying scene right before some violence against a woman.

I want to, but I lost my back-up. Can I retrieve it from the GWE google doc in any way?
  10. Ah, putting over a young talent like Bryan, underrated legends like Funk and Misawa, but ultimately winning and staying the champ. This is like a perfect allegory of a Ric Flair feud.
  11. Number 3 today, please! Any wait longer than the absolute minimum is torture!
  12. Dolph Ziggler. How in the world he became an internet favourite I do not know. When you sell a chop and a Tombstone Piledriver on steel steps that have been put on fire the same way, you are not a great wrestler.* *Some parts of it may or may not have been embellished.
  13. Misawa continuing to kick out at 2.9999 and showing the young pretenders that he's still the ace.
  14. Doesn't matter how many threads on here I lurk, I'll never in my life understand how or why Rey's offense was better than HBK's or Bret's. Shawn was an undersized babyface who had offence that was often shown to be at parity with his bigger opponents when it came to power. There are ways of doing that properly, but Shawn didn't. Rey was someone who used his size, which should have been a detriment in Vince's company, and turned it into a massive advantage. Every aspect of his offence emphasized his quickness and agility. He didn't engage in a punch-out when he fought Kane. I also do not see how Rey's offence did not look legit. Neither do I see why his punches being bad matters, since his punches were never a significant part of his arsenal.
  15. Really happy for Rey-Rey. I had Kawada over him, but I am thrilled that Misawa-san made the top 5. He never seems to get as much praise and discussion as his illustrious compatriots. Bryan's placing is awesome as well.
  16. Kawada is first of the AJ Holy Trinity to fall. And he was ranked the highest last time too. It's still an excellent finish, but I would be interested to hear the thoughts of people who ranked Misawa and Kobashi above him.
  17. I really do not like Flair's shtick, nor do I ever want to rewatch any match of his again, but Loss is absolutely right in saying that no one has been subject to as much scrutiny as Flair. Hansen, for example, was being unanimously praised without any disagreement until Matt started speaking about his issues with him.
  18. His relatively underwhelming 80s knocked him down from #1 to #3 in my list. I clearly underestimated the backlash against him.
  19. I think Liger will fall next. Shame, because he was comfortably in my top 10.
  20. Rey was a transcendental babyface, to the point where Vince McMahon had to give him the world title twice. That counts more, although I love Eddie.
  21. Jumbo didn't make the top 10. No one is safe haha. Really happy for Rey-Rey.
  22. I think either Rey or Lawler will drop. Most probably Lawler, but it would still be a huge jump, as he was 42 in 2006, IIRC.
  23. I thought it was well-accepted that Warrior failed as a draw when asked to follow Hogan? I remember jdw talking about how they were drawing so poorly that they reduced the house show circuits from 3 to 2. So many discussions have happened on why he couldn't draw, with people saying that Hogan sabotaged his reign at WM 6 with his fallen King performance post-match.
  24. I am now actually thinking I ranked Bock lower than I should have, and I had him in my top 15. All I had going for him was a pack I DL'd from XWTClassics, and if I had the AWA set, then he surely would have ranked higher. No idea if any seller will ship it to India at a reasonable price though. And fuck you all, Eddie is awesome.
  25. If the face of my country in pro wrestling is compared sincerely to Akira Taue, one of the best ever, I feel I have achieved nirvana and will die a happy man.
