  1. I'll echo the love for this match, and for 1991. I've been pretty blown away at how great everything has been thus far, and this match is in my top two of the month thus far (pretty sure it's number one). I'll agree with some, in that it's below the Dandy matches for me, but I really loved this match. Great match, the closing moment of the second fall was a rush.
  2. Disc 1 of 1991 is in the books, and this was definitely my favorite angle on the disc. Loving the return of the Fabs with Cornette with the Lawler promos in the Memphis TV setting. It just doesn't get any better than that. Promises of a Dundee/Lawler vs Fabs match... yes.
  3. Jan. 1991 rules, on top of everything else I've watched, the Fabs are back and this leads to them attaching Lawler in the studio. Cornette is with them, and I couldn't ask for much else. Love this. Love Jan. 1991!
  4. Yeah, I'm surprised this match wasn't more one-sided as much as they put over the injury of Hokutu. It legit looked like Toyota was going to snap the arm in half at times. It was interesting to see Grimmas compare Toyota to Angle, because Toyota holding on the that insane looking armbar for so long reminded me of the criticisms that some have of Angle matches sometimes when he works his ankle submission too long (according to some - doesn't usually bother me). Anyway, this was really good. I thought the length of that submission built the drama, so I'm not criticizing it - I liked it.
  5. I don't know, I loved how scrappy Fujinami was in this. Maybe he wasn't the man from the 80's, but he still put on a damn good show with lots of effort. Yeah, Vader was great, but I think Fujinami delivered as well. I really enjoyed this match. As others mentioned, when the eye gets busted it hits the next level. Also, I agree with garretta's points that it took a lot of guts from both guys to work it in that fashion.
  6. Loved this match overall - like someone else said, the first half is like MOTYC territory, but then it sort of goes off the rails. I still loved it, a lot due to the personalities involved. Crazy funk and the punching of both guys is always something I'm going to enjoy. Really digging this territory/promotion the most in the early portion of the year.
  7. Along with TG, I've never been too big on JJ, but this was super fun. Reflecting on 1990, since I took a little break between the YB's, it just seems TX was the best fit he had. I've loved some of the Memphis stuff too. I guess, as I've seen others say before, this is the best era of his career.
  8. I came back to this one today since I'm working my way through 1991. I think I enjoyed it more this time around, I feel like my comment on "some of the striking wasn't great" was unfair. It's really just a few of the early strikes in the match, because everything else is really brutal. I can't remember which guy now, but I love the spot where one of them is trying to get back in the ring, and the other is on the outside pulling on the chain. He eventually grabs some chairs and starts going to town on him. I said it was hard to grade before, but this is a great match with an abrupt finish.
  9. Yeah, I enjoyed this one a lot. The slap that led to the chair attack - all great stuff. I can watch these two anytime.
  10. Yes, the Wahoo McDaniel match 8/28/83 and the Martel match from 9/20/84 are two you should really consider (probably my favorites outside of the one-hour draw). If you are looking for another great Hennig match outside of the one hour draw check their match from 12/25/1986. Also, try to look into the Lawler vs. Bockwinkel stuff from Memphis with the $500 per punch angle - must see stuff.
  11. I watched this last night, and really loved it. I share a lot of the same thoughts as SM15, so not much to add, but the intensity and pacing of this match hit on all cylinders. That final slap exchange was really something, and it hit at just the right time before the finish. Emotion was running high for Chip at the end of the match, and that only added to the awesome story of this bout. Loved it!
  12. I really enjoyed the debut of Southern Underground Pro in Nashville, TN last night. From a live perspective, I think the match of the night for me was probably Kerry Awful vs. Dom Garini vs. Curt Stallion. At the end of the night, Stallion ended up taking the gold home as the first ever Bonestorm Champion. The standout guys for me were The Carnies (Nick Iggy and Kerry Awful), but I loved the hell out of a match between Dom Garini and a guy with a Yale gimmick (I hate I don't remember his name). Anyways, fun stuff - looking forward to going back when they run again. They say the show will be free online within a week or so, likely YouTube or dailymotion.
  13. Sleeze, do you remember the date of The Fabs vs. Road Warriors you watched? I know it has been a while. I think there are multiple matches out there, the one I most recently watched was (I believe to be) from 01/12/1985 with Lance Russell on commentary. I think that the only version on YouTube is cut at 2:85, but I saw full version on the highspots network. It may have been on the Memphis set, I just can't remember. There is a 20 minute match that may have been the one you watched from 11/08/1984 on YouTube from Canada. I enjoyed the one from Memphis, and thought The Road Warriors were bumping around quite a bit for the The Fabs. It's unfortunate that the highspots network doesn't have the date listed (or that I saw anyway). If you have the ability, you might want to check that one out. I think it went around 15 minutes or so. I thought it was really fun.
  14. I agee. For me, this was the match of the weekend. Great storytelling as you said - with great action and selling. Lots of folks talked about the 10-man at WrestleCon, but for my money this blew that out of the water. So much so I wouldn't have compared them had it not been talked of in the same vein (or on the same level) by some.
  15. God!!! That wasn't me! I've had to say that quite a few times. Maybe I need Loss to change my name. I had Flair at one. Meh, it's really no big deal... but, I think that guy had similar initials or last name... . The Big Bad Booty Daddy unfortunately didn't make the cut for me
  16. So pumped for Nak on SDLive, and putting him with Miz right out of the gate is the best thing possible with it looking like AJ is heading to Raw. I was in attendance for his NXT debut in Dallas, and now I'll get to be in attendance for his main roster debut (match) in Chicago. I can't wait for that!
  17. Haha, too funny! I was plowing through these rapid fire. Totally sucked into that set. It was incredible.
  18. I like the idea of Piper as Champ, and would probably look back on Mania 2 more highly had that been the main event. However, It's hard to argue with Hogan's momentum and where it eventually led them. I wonder if Piper would have taken the leg drop and lost clean to Hogan at 2? It seems I remember Hogan saying that Piper would never agree to lose clean to him.
  19. With 33 right around the corner, I thought I'd revisit some Goldberg. I watched the collection that they have on the network, and I noticed that NintendoLogic had this match listed in his Top 100 of all-time, so I gave it a revisit. Seeing it now, I'm pretty surprised it wasn't included in the collection on the network( in comparison to some that were). Hopefully, Goldberg has something like this in him for Sunday. These two guys were pounding on each other. I did enjoy it, but once Russo arrived, it was REALLY hard for me to get around the annoyance that his presence brought to me. It was hard to see the greatness of the work through his booking, but I still came away pleasantly surprised. I like how stiff the match was worked. I didn't like the fake bat and Russo ripping off his shirt (thinking he was really cool) as he strolled down the ramp with Steiner at his side... This isn't the spot on the board for this, but Vince Russo was the driving force for making WCW unwatchable. WCW went from being the promotion pushed like a real sport to talking about "creative control" and trying to talk about everything as a work but it's still real and guhhhh.... anyway... I got off course. This one is worth a revisit as far as Goldberg's catalogue is concerned. Behind the DDP match, it might be his best. NintendoLogic, if you are out there, and read this. I'd love to get your take on this match since you have it ranked so highly. I think it was really good, but I'm not sure I'd call it great at this point.
  20. I checked out the 4/22/1986 Santana/Savage (No DQ from MSG) match after looking over NintendoLogic's newly posted top 100. The match is fantastic. Savage off the top, and Tito catches him with that chair shot to the ribs - awesome. Another classic I had not seen from these guys. I watched the Wrestling Classic too (trucking through with the P2B guys), and that was Savage's night as well. I had seen it before, but probably on 24/7 years ago. I really enjoyed all of his performances on that card from top to bottom. I've been on this kick, so I also watched the Randy Savage Collection that's on the Network over the past week. It's surprising they didn't include either of the two classic Santana/Savage matches that have been discussed here in the collection. I will say it's a really fun watch, and I enjoyed how they have it laid out. It's worth checking out. I haven't watched his DVD/Blu-Ray collections in years, but this is probably pretty similar. I just liked how they have the promos interspersed with the matches. Dig it!
  21. I'm glad you brought up that Slamboree 1998 match. I had not seen that in probably 5-8 years. I watched it this morning and loved it. I can imagine I was probably annoyed by the finish back in 1998, but I don't care at all now. So, that's probably why I didn't remember how good the match was. Piper was fine. Savage was fantastic. I loved his selling of basically everything. stro has the stuff that really popped out up above there, and I really liked how the knee damage caused the slow pin attempt following the elbow drop. As far as Steamboat, within the past week or so I watched: 11/07/1985 - Wrestling Classic - short but sweet 12/07/1985 - Boston 07/27/1986 - Toronto - Probably 3rd favorite of the bunch 10/28/1986 Superstars taping - aired 11/22/1986 11/01/1986 - Boston - Fun callback to the foreign object from the Tito Match 11/08/1986 - Philadelphia 01/05/1987 - Hogan & Steamboat vs. Savage & Honky - Meadowlands Arena - Savage tried to use the ring bell in this one too 01/10/1987 - Philadelphia 01/27/1987 - Ft. Myers 02/15/1987 - Toronto - 1st 03/29/1987 - Mania III - 2nd 05/15/1987 - Houston They are all really good to great. 02/15/1987 remains my favorite, but man it's all so good. I'll have to look into that 4-disc set. I need to see what I'm missing.
  22. I think I had seen the Houston match, either way I really enjoyed it. I loved the callback with the foreign object to the Tito Santana match in Boston. Philly was similar, but I thought it was better than the Boston match all around. WC I had seen, and it's short but sweet. 12/7/85 was really good too. Lot's of great selling from Savage in that one.
  23. Thanks! I'll be checking all that out. I've seen Wrestling Classic, but I don't remember it.
  24. Well, I just watched Hogan & Steamboat vs. Savage & Honky Tonk Man from Meadowlands Arena 01/05/1987. It's a pretty fun edition to this feud. Savage tries to use the ring bell in that match as well.
