This was just an outstanding war of attrition. Loved KENTA dominating the early portions, Akiyama coming back to things w/ fantastic work over KENTA's neck was lovely. KENTA's selling of this was great & I loved how every time he got some comebacks in, Akiyama answered with a brutal shot to that neck. Great, great stuff. As far as Jr. Heavyweight vs. Heavyweight battles in Japan go, there ain't many, if any, better than this one. ****3/4

This was a great return match for Hideo. It was pretty much perfectly laid out - Kona jumps Hideo right away to get the advantage & does some quite impressive work over him. He laid those strikes in & his work over Hideo overall was really damn good. Reeves impressed me in this one. Hideo makes a badass comeback & starts destroying Kona with those killer strikes of his. This was perfectly laid out for Hideo's first match back. Very much enjoyed it. ***1/2

I've liked Bad Luck Fale since I first saw him - I honestly think he is pretty underrated, he does a really good job at being the gaijin monster. Here he had the match of his life. They kept it simple; Fale dominated Okada with his monster work, while Okada made some fiery comebacks. Both parties played their roles extremely well & as a result, we got a rockin' main event match. Liked this better than Okada's matches vs. Kenny & Ibushi this year. ****1/4

So, so, SO much better than their first match. I wasn't a fan of that one, but this rocked my world. The start of the match was amazing with them going full speed right from the get go. The brawl outside the ring was fantastic. Omega's work on top was so good, which I was very happy about because his work on top was what really ruined the New Japan Cup match for me. The way he targeted Ishii's neck throughout the whole match was tremendous. Ishii once again proved why he is one of the best sellers in the biz - amazing selling from him. The whole finishing stretch was just insane with them busting out sick counters & big moves w/ a very nice sense of urgency. Amazing match. ****1/2

Danielson, McGuinness, Joe & Trevor would be my top-4 favorites. Here's one that hasn't been mentioned yet: Io Shirai's current World of Stardom aka the "Red Belt" reign has been excellent from start. Roderick Strong's run w/ the PWG World Championship in 2015-2016 was fantastic too, inspired my username here too haha. Timothy Thatcher's EVOLVE World Championship reign doesn't get the credit it deserves. It had a few forgettable matches vs. Ethan Page, Caleb Konley & Matt Riddle (the first few matches they had weren't very good), but for the most part I thought it was really great.

Right from the get go Trevor was being a total douchebag to Lio & it was great. Loved the early stuff with him with him showcasing his power in cocky fashion. Lio answered to that by showcasing his quick move combinations. From then on it's enjoyable back & forth action between the 2, the ending of the match was really great too with Trevor low blowing Lio & then going for his classic small package only for Lio to reverse to that into his own. Awesome match. ***3/4

The first about 8 minutes or so of the match are kinda dull w/ them doing meh comedy & all, but then they decide to go nuts and it gets amazing. Just an outstanding, crazy spotfest. On par with the BOLA 6-man. ****1/2

FANTASTIC shine by the babyfaces to start things off. Chuck & Trent were fired up. The heels get the advantage by cheating. I love it. The visual of Zack stepping on the head of Trent while Marty throws a chair at Chuck = 5 stars. Trent's FIP segment was pretty much perfect. Marty & especially Zack were outstanding working over him. Loved how every time Trent was almost there to make the tag to Chuck, they found a way to cut him off. Chuck's hot tag was tremendous. As was the whole finishing stretch - loved the Zack vs. Trent battle. What a terrific match; Chuckie T was great as the fired up hot tag guy, think this was the first time Marty has ever come off as a true "villain" to me in a match, Trent was an outstanding FIP & Zack was so goddamn ruthless. Fantastic performance by him. Definitely the MVP of the match even though all involved were great. Best PWG tag in years. ****3/4

I very much enjoyed the meat of the match. The way it was laid out kinda surprised me; The Chosen Bros really just dominated OI4K. Cobb & Riddle are both excellent offensive wrestlers so that was a blast. Pretty much the only offense (until the finishing stretch that is) that the Crist brothers got was a super short FIP segment w/ Riddle (which was really good, Riddle's fiery comeback was tremendous) & a little bit longer, yet still pretty short FIP segment w/ Cobb (which was also really good). In the end both teams looked really damn good in this. Really fun match. ***1/2

Really the perfect PWG opener - an action packed, a little beefy even (Cage vs. Lee) spotfest in which the pace never slowed down. Keith Lee made sure in his Reseda debut that everybody in the building will remember his name. ***3/4

This has always got comparisons to Danielson vs. KENTA (GBH) because the story of the match being pretty much the same - the champ coming into it with injured arm(s) against one of the most lethal offensive wrestlers around. So let's say it right away; this is definitely not as good as that match. This is certainly great, though. KENTA's targeting of Nigel's freshly injured arm was tremendous & Nigel's selling really was fantastic. I actually thought that there wasn't enough of KENTA kicking Nigel's arm stuff - all of that ruled, clearly the highlight of the match, but after a while, KENTA didn't target that arm as much as he did in the beginning stages of the match, and that brought it down a notch. Still great, but definitely had potential to be even greater. ****

[2009-03-01-NOAH-Second Navigation] KENTA vs Katsuhiko Nakajima
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in March 2009
This match is so frustrating to watch, because it had all the potential in the world to be a classic. Nakajima was so great in it, but then KENTA strikes. He completely no sells the work Nakajima had done to his leg, and ultimately that is what ruins the match. * -
[2009-01-25-NOAH-First Navigation] KENTA vs Kotaro Suzuki
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in January 2009
Kotaro Suzuki with an all-time great heel performance. He was so, so, so good here; constantly with those heel tricks of his. That fake blood bit was tremendous. KENTA was great as the no-nonsense asskicker giving the dick what he deserves too, but this was for the most part a total Kotaro Suzuki show. What a goddamn show at that. ****1/2- 5 replies

Felt like watching this match because Strowman vs. Reigns from last night's PPV gave me some similar vibes. Good to see that this still holds up as an absolute classic - Umaga's onslaught was just so great, constantly targeting the injured mid section of Cena's. And this might just be the best selling performance of Cena's career. ****3/4

Their Fastlane match disappointed me greatly, but holy shit that is all forgotten now after this instant classic. The look on Braun's face while Reigns was staring him down from the ringside was priceless. LOVED the beginning with Reigns going straight to punch Braun - now that is how you sell a personal feud, Owens & Jericho! That stunned Braun & Reigns got a great shine in. That shine ended quickly as Braun grabbed Reigns while he was going for that drive by apron dropkick. My goodness that was awesome. Braun was now on full control, he destroys Reigns & Reigns displayed that world class selling of his - oh man he is such a phenomenal seller & this might have been his finest selling performance yet. Reigns' big eventual comeback was fantastic - now that is how you do a high energy, hard hitting, badass comeback while still selling your injuries perfectly; hope Rollins took some notes. Braun got the control quickly again & dominated, Reigns got just enough hope spots in, only for him to fall down to the ultimate monster that is BRAUN. What a goddamn match. Gave me some Umaga vs. Cena vibes. Roman Reigns is the fucking man & Braun Strowman is the best monster WWE has had in a looooong time. ****3/4

These two had a really good match last year, so I knew there was some chemistry there. They had an even better match here - it was executed so well w/ the emotion & the effective babyface-heel roles. Alexa's work on top was really good, really liked her trash talk during that too. Bayley's big comeback was super great - loved the energy & fire she brought. The sense of urgency picked up big time once Bayley's comeback was done - they started hitting each other w/ the big bombs; Bayley trying to go for the super Bayley-to-Belly, Alexa busting out the sunset flip powerbomb, Bayley doing her awesome Macho Man tribute elbow. The finish was really neat with Alexa getting a win with a normal DDT (in 2017!!) - it made perfect sense because Bayley's head hit the ringpost just before. Great match! ****

This was really good. Hot action from bell to bell. The transitions were really damn good. The finish was a bit annoying but it did it's job in setting up part 3 between these 2. On par with their WM match. ***1/2

Was super excited when they announced this match up & it managed to deliver just like I had hoped it would. Ringkampf quickly established dominance over BSS - they worked over them for a pretty lengthy amount of time before BSS got back into things. When they did get back into things, we got an outstanding FIP segment w/ Thatcher - Thatcher might legitimately be the best salesman in wrestling today. His facial expressions & physical selling are on point. ADJ's eventual hot tag was great; the heels did what they had been doing the entire match for Ringkampf - they bumped their ass off for him/them. They were really great in their role. The finishing stretch was them going balls-to-the-walls, which was enjoyable, my favorite part about that was Thatcher catching Bate into a Fujiwara Armbar outside the ring. Fantastic match. Everybody played their roles super well - ADJ was the stoic technician working over BSS, WALTER chopped people around, Thatcher sold his ass off & the BSS trio played the close-to-defeat vulnerable heel group. ****1/2

[2008-10-13-NOAH-Autumn Navigation] Bryan Danielson vs KENTA
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in October 2008
Bryan's selling of KENTA's offensive onslaught was tremendous. I really liked when during KENTA's controls segment after a hellacious kick from KENTA, Danielson is on his knees, pushes him away & says "come on you motherfucker!" - that of course KENTA answers to by kicking the shit out of him. Loved Bryan's big comeback with him doing the big dive to the crowd. I really can't praise his selling enough. That is how you sell while still going for high risk moves. KENTA goes right back to attacking the mid section once he has collected himself from the big comeback sequence of Danielson - Dragon once again sold the damage KENTA had just done perfectly. They do a big count out tease & immediately when Danielson rolls back to the ring, KENTA wastes no time & goes right after him w/ a missile dropkick. Tremendous. After a while of getting his ass kicked by KENTA again, Danielson makes a really good comeback with him trying to finish KENTA quickly by putting him on Ankle Lock, Cattle Mutilation as well as throwing some really good looking suplexes. Really good sense of urgency there. KENTA again has Danielson's number, but that quickly turns around as KENTA's leg gets stuck on the top rope, so naturally Dragon goes right after that leg. He works over that leg in brilliant fashion - selling a limb has never been KENTA's strong suit to say the least, but here he does a really good job in that. There's a brilliant spot where he does the GTS to Bryan but he can't make the cover right away because his knee is so hurt. That made for a really good nearfall, with Dragon getting his foot on the rope - a nice callback to their first singles meeting, too. The rest of the match is Danielson doing some terrific work over KENTA, while KENTA wins the eventual awesome strike exchange & then blasts Bryan with his signature moves (Busaiku Knee & GTS) to pick up the victory. That actually is the only thing holding this from being 5* in my books, KENTA completely ignored the work Bryan had done to his knee during that finishing stretch. If he had acknowledged it, this sure would've been a perfect match. Still an absolute classic though. ****3/4 Now that the Danielson vs. KENTA story has come to an end with this match, I think the biggest thing I always come away from their matches with is that while KENTA is an absolutely great wrestler, I would go as far as calling him an all-time great wrestler - the difference between him & Bryan is really huge. KENTA is really good in every single match of theirs, but it's Danielson who's performances put their matches over as all-timers in my eyes.- 3 replies

The beginning of the match with KENTA & Aoki vs. Miyahara & Okita was so great. Great chaotic brawl to start if off & once everybody got to their corners we got an awesome FIP segment w/ Miyahara. Loved watching KENTA & Aoki kick his ass, he sold it tremendously. The eventual hot tag to Okita absolutely ruled too, he came in w/ a house of fire. Then the whole finishing stretch of that segment of the match. Lovely stuff. Truly set the pace for rest of the match. Kensuke comes in looking intense as hell - the staredown between him & KENTA was awesome; loved the way Kensuke just pushed & threw Aoki out of the way when he tried to break the staredown. He did it again when Aoki came to try to break Kensuke's move to KENTA. Loved it. The story of this portion of the match was that Kensuke treat Aoki like a complete afterthrought - he just wanted to beat the shit out of KENTA, which he did for a while (& it was very enjoyable). KENTA makes the hot tag & Aoki gets to run wild on Kensuke for a while - until he taps out to Kensuke's Boston crab. Super well done storytelling. Loved Ito's brief visit in the match too - he came in fired up & tried to go for Kensuke right away, only for Kensuke to put him down very quickly. Kobashi comes in looking pretty worried & as he is talking with KENTA, goddamn Okita spears him to a pile of streamers. Awesome visual. The whole Kobashi vs. Okita segment was pretty similar to Ito vs. Kensuke - Okita got to shine for a while, only for him to ultimately be put down by the legend. Now it was time for Kensuke & Nakajima vs. Kobashi & KENTA - the same match up that went into a 30 minute draw 2 months earlier. KENTA's big FIP segment during this was simply fantastic - loved his selling + Nakajima & Kensuke came off as blood hungry sharks in their onslaught on him. Nakajima's FIP segment was tremendous as well - loved Kobashi just chopping him around & putting him in those submissions. Great stuff. Kensuke's hot tag was great & as was Kobashi's - they do their beefy chopfest special. The whole Kenskay vs. Kobashi segment was super heated. After that the match really kicks in the finishing gear w/ the action getting more focused, intense & fast paced. Just freaking red hot interactions by everyone involved; hot sequences, counters, nearfalls, callbacks to their previous 2-on-2 match. Amazing stuff. This had the vibe of a 90's All Japan multi-man tag classic w/ all the great action & storytelling. I think it was perfectly put together & executed. *****

[1997-10-21-AJPW] Akira Taue vs Johnny Ace
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Loss's topic in October 1997
A pretty good match. Mostly dominated by Taue who does a good job in that while Ace makes some decent comebacks. **3/4 -
Impressive performance by Juice in his first big time real main event opportunity. He looked very good & his selling of the leg was very strong throughout the whole match - I was actually afraid he would totally no sell it when Naito started to attack it right away, but he sold it really well from start to finish. ***3/4

[2017-04-29-NJPW] EVIL vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
ShittyLittleBoots replied to soup23's topic in April 2017
Tanahashi looking super majestic w/ that epic jacket of his & all while attacking EVIL before the bell was a great start. I love this vulnerable best-days-behind-him ace version of Tanahashi - we have got it pre-G1 few years now & we sure got it right here in this match. His selling of EVIL's awesome work on top was dramatic in a very positive way, absolutely loved it. All of his comebacks were great too. A super simple, fun match with well executed storytelling. Tana is the man. ***3/4 -
[2017-04-29-NJPW] Hiromu Takahashi vs Ricochet
ShittyLittleBoots replied to soup23's topic in April 2017
LOVED the beginning with Ricochet going straight for the kill. It was all downhill from there though - I thought the energy & the sense of urgency all dropped right away after that was done. The match felt like just a bunch of uninteresting movez to me after that. It's a shame because it started off so damn well. *1/2
