  4. Except for Charles, there was no way that panel was going to spend anytime on joshi.

  7. Dammit Grimmas. Don't troll me into old arguments.
  8. I am trying to convince Phil to synch up with me and watch all of the Rockers vs. Rose Somers matches so we can rank them the way we ranked Choshu-Fujinami.
  9. You may knock the new set for missing some of the same matches mentioned above.
  10. Was It 1992 when he got kicked in the face and his eye was swollen shut?
  11. Tim, he is all over the 1991 yearbook. I think you will get a kick out of the Texas vs. Tennessee feud.
  12. Steve, i watched a couple of popular Backlund-Muraco matches over the summer and I thought Muraco was horrible. Here are my reviews of the two matches I watched from the Boston Idol supplemental WWF set... Bob Backlund vs. Don Muraco (9/21/81) Some of the worst punches known to man start this thing off. This is followed by Bob’s goofy headlock and a terrible Muraco clothesline. First three minutes is really bad. Muraco responds with a … CHINLOCK! Then in a weird display, Muraco goes for the one boot pin, Backlund grabs the foot but Don drops a legdrop. It just looked weird. So Muraco starts working the abs of Backlund and I am digging this portion until Don goes back to the headlock. Come on, this was getting back on a right track. When Bob gets on offense, he finally shows the nasty with some good punches, nasty boot rakes and his piledriver. After Bob’s cool offense, he works … an armbar? They are working this armbar sequence entirely too long. Bob does some cool shit with it but again, in complete random spots. Muraco tries to changes the tide with some nasty forearms but Bob stays in control. After a Bob atomic drop, Muraco looks dead on the outside but hits Bob in the throat and follows with an Oriental Spike jab to the throat. That was cool. Every time Bob tries to get in the ring, Muraco keeps attacking the throat. Muraco hits his Tombstone piledriver followed by an awkward Superfly splash. Muraco goes for a butterfly suplex but Bob deadlifts Don into a pinning combo for the win even though Don’s foot was over the ropes. This is a match that would have been a contender at 20 minutes. At 32 minutes, it felt way too long and the guys were just doing random shit at points. Some of the sequences were awkward as hell, others were really cool and some were done with no rhyme or reason. The Bob armlock sequence went way too long and the moves were either really nasty or really shitty. This match defines multiple personality disorder. Bob Backlund vs. Don Muraco (10/17/81) You can tell these guys were going long because they were wayyyyy too patient in the beginning. None of the frantic energy that started the last match. Don’t know if that is a good thing since some of the offense was so shitty before. First 20 minutes, nothing happening, Bob works a hammerlock and Muraco tries in vain to escape or get out. 2nd 20 minutes – Don turns the tide by attacking Bob’s ribs and abs. Shit, this is good Muraco. Why doesn’t he do this the whole match? Foot stomps, standing on the abs, butt drop on the abs. Good shit. The drawback is that to kill time, it looks like Muraco is applying a stomach claw but they aren’t really working the hold. Bob makes a comeback and decides to use the head scissors as his next time killer of choice. Muraco regains control with an ankle hold and in one of the dumbest goofiest displays I have seen, it looks like Bob is dropping Muraco into a pinning combo but continues rocking like a rocking horse until he ends up being the one pinned. Final 20 – Muraco back with a leg lock but that is the loosest leg lock in history. This shit is starting to fall apart. First, Muraco tries to turn a Bob monkey flip into a pin but that was botched then Don botches a rope roll up spot and flops to the mat n delayed fashion. After that, Don goes back to the leg because fuck, why not? Bob escapes by dropping a leg over Don’s face and then starts working Don’s legs because he hasn’t done that yet. Cool deadlift spot out of a leglock though. I am digging Bob’s Indian deathlock but this could have been done about 45 minutes ago. There are about 5 minutes to go. I tap out. I am at the point in my life where I don’t want to see 2 guys go an hour in scientific match ups. It hurts even more when the work is poor. Multi-man hour long matches? Sure. This was just painful and I have still not found the great Muraco classic..
  13. We have been planning this for months.

  15. It was over the top but I have no problem with that bump. I had A bigger problem with Rikishi doing a spinning bump off weak Kane clotheslines.
  16. The world should weep. Because Buddy was an asshole, he ad few friends in the business willing to put him in his rightful place as one of the all-time greats.
  17. I think One of the Johnny Ace twins may be Dan Spivey. Was he there at the time?
  18. Ok, so Tenta was a guy who took me by surprise in the All Japan viewing. He might not have had the best matches n the company but he always put in a good-great performance. Help me out guys... WWF fans and yearbook viewers.... What Earthquake matches do I need to watch that stand out in WWF? WCW watchers... What matches are worth checking out?
  19. Yeah, who the fuck would voluntarily want to watch more Beefcake matches? As for Tenta, I am excited that there may be some hidden gems in WCW because his All Japan work was great. Completely made me want to revisit his career. I don't remember him doing anything standout in WWF but I don't know if Tenta just fell into the sucktitude of early 90s WWF or if he became content collecting those fat paychecks working opposite Hogan. As for Keirn, the guy has always been solid. Never the best guy on the roster but never the worst. I have a hard time believing he s all of a sudden the shits in WCW.

  21. I started watching Georgia Wrestling in Illinois when I was about 6-7 years old. My sisters grew up in South Carolina so they were able to explain who Tommy Rich, Tony Atlas and those guys were. This was when we had about 12 stations total. When we got our first cable box, I think I was exposed to both WWF and Crockett about the same time. It was easier to pick up on Crockett because i recognized many faces from Georgia. We now lived in Texas so I was also exposed to World Class as well. Then rock n wrestlng blew up and we watched WWF religiously. When Pro and Worldwide blew up, we watched those religiously as well. Then the UWF blew up and it was possible I could watch wrestling from noon to midnight with maybe an hour or two break total on some Saturdays. I remember AWA popping up on ESPN in 1986 but I hated Buddy Rose and would change the channel when he was on. I hated Greg Gagne and thought he was a joke as well. California wrestling with Toru Tanaka also popped up every once in awhile but it sucked. I don't know how people could have seen one company without knowing the others existed if you had a cable box because in San Antonio, we were spoiled beyond belief and we were not considered a major wrestling town at all. Also, Jerry... In 1987, the UWF was as good as dead. They could not have survived.
  22. I don't think it is even close.
  23. OK, my buddy said it was Lex something so I went with that. All good.
  24. Brodie Lee maybe? Almost positive it was Brodie Lee. I walked in on the end of the match and my buddy said it was nothing special.
