[1992-01-04-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Rick Rude & Paul E. Dangerously
El-P replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Intense promo from Paul E., and you gotta love dropping Magnum TA in it. Paul was as good as a serious promo as he was as a comedic one, just like Cornette.- 12 replies

[1992-01-04-WCW-Saturday Night] Arn Anderson vs Dustin Rhodes
El-P replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Terrific TV match to kick off the year. Arn was at his best here, and Dustin was already a very good worker. Enjoyed the time and patience they put in, enjoyed the surprising nearfall at the end. Everything looked crisp, intense. Not a lot of spectacular spots, and yet they made one hell of a match out of this.- 19 replies

Lanny Poffo - greatest ever camp/effeminate heel?
El-P replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in The Microscope
I really don't care for any effeminate gimmick. It reeks of very cheap and stereotypical gay bashing, so it's no better than a race baiting gimmick to me. Poffo did a good job at it certainly, but a gimmick designed to get "faggot" chant from the audience doesn't get any consideration from me, it's just not fun. Plus there were much better than Poffo in the role, Adrian Street was much better because he was portraying a queer that would actually kick the shit out of you, Street was a though character. And Goldust was also much better because it was more ambiguous, a character that played on stereotypes to make people uneasy. Of course the WWF wasn't nearly subtle enough to book such a character in a compelling way and reverted back into sheer homophobia with Piper. Anyway, Poffo was good at an always embarrassing gimmick, but he certainly wasn't the best nor the most inrtriguing at it. And he wasn't a very good worker contrary to Street or Dustin. Just about decent and totally carryable. -
[1996-10-21-WWF-Raw] Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Marc Mero
El-P replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
I was so disapointed he didn't get back in the ring at that time. Then I saw him work in WCW...- 12 replies

WM 13. His dad made the save from a post-match beating after the IC title match with The Sultan. Blurring the face of Hebner is so stupid.

Sigh Eh eh. How they will handle Cornette is the interesting part. MX vs Rock'n Roll was such a big part of Mid-South at one point. After years of "fuck you Johnny Ace, fuck you WWE" on public forums, I doubt they'll contact Corny, and I doubt he would do anything with them.

Well, you are the one making bitchy whining posts for nothing actually. And "all history is fucking revisionnist history" was such a retarded comment that I had to jump in.

[1996-10-21-WWF-Raw] Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Marc Mero
El-P replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
It's funny that Hennig was part of two heel turn that didn't go anywhere in the mid-90's in the WWF. First on Luger at WM X, then on Mero in 96. Both time he was gone shortly after and there was no payoff.- 12 replies

My first thought as well My first thought was that was a shitty, ultra whiny post and all history is fucking revisionist history. The History major in me laughs at this post vehemently.

You know what, I've heard that one before, and it's just an amazing story when you think about it. I mean, Beckett and a young Andre in a truck.

[1992-12-26-SMW-TV] Interview: Bob Armstrong / Interview: Tim Horner
El-P replied to Loss's topic in December 1992
Yep. That was not only overkill in trying to get sympathy for Horner, that was downright sleazy. In a perfect world, Raven would cut the same promo with Sandman's son next to him. First really embarrasing stuff on SMW TV.- 10 replies

Match suffered from heavy editing. I love to see Cornette working, because he's actually good at it. Good looking punches, good bumps. The timing of Cornette being afraid and offering a sudden handshake to Gibson is just hilarious.

Hallucinating promo from Cornette. Just amazing. It's one of those rare occurence of legit "money promo". It's a must-see, GOATC promo.

Nah. Philip Seymour Hoffman as Bruce Pritchard. I can just picture him do the Brother love routine to a T. Michael Shannon would indeed be a great idea.

What can I add that hasn't alreay been said. Just an amazing bloodletting by Sullivan. Yeah, it's quite surreal that this happened in front of a family audience, but hey, this was wrestling "as it used to be", and it produced quite an aura of absurd violence. Looked like a slaughter. The camera guy trying a save was a nice touch, just like Dutch swearing on air. Great angle.

[1992-10-24-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
El-P replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Yes and yes. The match signed was the Bodies vs the R'R so it didn't made sense to throw the match because Gibson showed up. And yes, Ricky Morton is so great that at times you really feel Gibson was happy to be there for the ride, as showed by his very dull and uninteresting solo matches.- 9 replies

I thought it was the perfect interview for Tracy, and I love the continuity that Cornette showed with his product. Instead of bringing Smothers as a face like WCW just never happened not only it gets referenced by also gets a logical explanation. I'm really enjoy this, and Tracy sounded really genuine. Good stuff.

They're trying too hard. Remember when RAW was all about Brock lesnar killing John Cena ? Now we get comedy with Micheal Cole. What about CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan putting on great match ? Now we get Kane and AJ girlfriend storyline mixed in. I hope some kidnapping and rape takes place, to measure up with your usual Kane storyline. I just noticed than Dolph Ziggler totally looked like Billy Gunn. I wonder what's behind the thinking process of having a Goldberg clone in 2012.

I can only imagine how they'd react to a WWE contract, particularly the death clause. Isn't now the best period to try and unionize ? Sure, there's a monopoly, but there's also a very limited pool of talent, it's not like the WWE can dispose of a vasta array of already-made stars with big name they can buy from other companies or territories. If the 4 or 5 bigger names in WWE, including Cena of course, decide to launch an union, there's no way Vince can do anything about it, because he just has a super limited roster at this point, and a totally depleted pool of young talents he can use (not to mention WWE can't seem to be able to make new stars anymore). Of course it'll never happen, which is a shame, but I think it would actually be easier now than it ever was.
