Smack2k
Man, I don't get to watch shit. I pretty much keep up with current WWE on dvr, whatever 80's set I'm working on, and a smattering of stuff from dvds and youtube. I've seen Cars like 800 times in the last two weeks thanks to my little girl being absolutely obsessed with it. We are on teh Cars and Cars 2 train at my house as well... So when I cant watch, I work on trying to get more and more footage collected......for me as well as it gives another place where these videos are safe for years to come should something happen to others (fires / etc..) and some of it lost...I try to get everything I can and will continue to do so until I get to old to care...I am 35, so that is a LONG way away... But for me, if I see something I dont have and one part of it interests me, I will work until I get all of it....
MJH
See, I find my wrestling-watching actually goes up when I'm busy (be it O/T at work, during end of term uni work, whatever); if I've got nothing to do, I'd probably spend the time either reading or writing. I watch Raw every Monday (Tuesday morning), but on an hour-or-so tape-delay at the start so I can skip the breaks and anything particularly dull. Depending on what's on the show that can range from an hour's worth of proper viewing up to maybe 100 minutes but scarcely more (the breaks alone probably constitute an hour of the three). After that it's motivation-driven; if I get a new DVD set (like the '80s Lucha one next week), or if I fancy plowing through some old AJ/AJW or whatever I can find on YouTube, etc. I was actually considering going through the full Ginnetty Zenjo '78-'83 set (I've only watched selected stuff off it as yet) just to give myself the motivation, and if Jerome can do the final eighteen-months of WCW I can sure as hell do that. On average though? 10 just for a round figure? Either way, Dylan, I salute you.
goc
jdw, do you have plans to start watching wrestling regularly again? If so, when and what? "Eventually..." Which isn't really a plan with anything concrete. I'm still buying dvd's for a pair of lengthy viewing & write up projects, and still organizing and eyeballing more to get. But that's about as much as I'm doing on the watching front. My college football was 9 AM - 10:30 PM on Saturday, add in 6+ hours of Sunday NFL (and I was being lazy there), 3+ hours of Monday Night Football (was lazy there when I should have grabbed the Eagles game), and 3+ hours of NFL tonight. That's 13.5 hours of college football and 12+ hours of the NFL. That's not even getting into 6+ hours of international futbol games I watched... well... probably more than that since the stuff taped on last Friday didn't get watched until the weekend and Monday. I've probably watched 40+ hours of sports from Sat-Thur (including tonight), and that's not getting into stupid stuff like watching post-game analysis on ESPN, the NFL Network, etc. Not a lot of fast forward there either. You need to get whatever NFL package you can that has condensed game versions. I have the NFL GameRewind through the computer for only $40 for the season and they post condensed versions of the games that are just the plays. Usually you can watch a whole game in about 30 minutes. Every 2 out 3 Saturdays I work at night, so this lets me sleep all day Sunday and then as soon as Sunday Night Football is over I can watch every game. Cross Face Chicken Wing
My sports viewing schedule is a lot like John's. I also have two jobs, write for a Packers blog, travel often to visit family, play a lot of sports text sim PC games and have a kid on the way. Not much time for wrestling, but when I move wrestling up my priority list, I probably watch 4 hours per week. My problem is if I start watching before bed I fall asleep. I can watch anything else before bed and stay wide awake, but I nod off for wrestling for some reason.
Loss
I look forward to when John gets back into wrestling. Right now, to be honest, I feel like every point he raises when debating or discussing matches is based on memory from years ago instead of something fresh in his mind. Tim Evans
Do Live shows count? I just got back from a 4 hour NXT taping. I usually watch Raw, Smackdown, NXT, TNA, Main Event and about 4-6 hours of Lucha on the weekend. Then I watch a dvd before bed and fall asleep most of the time. Johnny Sorrow
Even when I didn't watch near the amount of wrestling I watch now I was up late/out all night doing something. I would guess that during the school year I average about three to three and a half hours of sleep a day, but part of that is my thirty minute power nap in the afternoons No wonder you loved Martel/ Rheingans. You're delirious from lack of sleep.
notoriusvig
I know the feeling. I've got so many sets to watch eventually, I don't know where to begin. Saturday Night 94, 95, 2000. The AWA set fished around here and DVDVR, KC Timelines, Nitro 95, War Games BD, Primetime 88 and probably a million others. I tend to go on and off with my viewing. I went a couple months barely watching or caring about anything and just recently, I've gotten back into watching some. I suspect it'll continue like this until the end of time. thebrainfollower
I feel the pain. I just got 300 plus episodes of Memphis TV 79-88. Where the heck do I find the time to watch all that?

I have the NFL network, which has those replays. I generally don't watch NFL games if I don't watch them the same day, and usually live. I match watch something like the game last night on delay-o because it started when I was at work. But FF through the commercials and halftime (since last night's first half didn't really need any halftime analysis), and I got done with it in well under 3 hours. But on Sunday, about the only one I'll watch on delay in the SNF if I need to run out after the 10am and 1pm PT games are over. College football is similar: the majority of may watching is live. The only things I'll watch on delay are USC if I'm doing something else and Auburn if I'm trying to hook up a watching with Lacy. The rest... I tend to watch it live. Futbol... a lot of that is on dvr because of (i) the time differences, the CL being during the weekdays, and (iii) some weekend games overlapping with other games or other stuff. jdw
I look forward to when John gets back into wrestling. Right now, to be honest, I feel like every point he raises when debating or discussing matches is based on memory from years ago instead of something fresh in his mind. The stuff I wrote on the Jumbo and Misawa groups the other day was based on: * memory * cross checking with the results and coverage in the JWJ and the WON I don't really need to watch anything to remember Taue being in Misawa's group initially, Kabuki being in Jumbo's, Yatsu coming in and then jumping, Kabuki double crossing Baba, Kikuchi evolving into the group, Taue moving to the other side, and Ogawa popping up in Jumbo's group the following year. Oh... and Mighty being in the mix. The specifics of when Ogawa was out, and the injury? That I tend to need to double checking to make sure of the series. As far as me discussing something based on a recent re-watch of a match, I don't think anyone really wants me to do that. My second post in this thread is talking about just the run-in of a match: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?showtopic=14628 Pretty detailed. Crickets in response. Most of my talking about matches tends to be along the lines of my second May 22, 2012 post in that thread. There's nothing in that comment that needs re-watching of the match prior to make it. I don't talk a ton about match quality or do detailed work-analysis in those threads. It's far more about the booking and the history. cheapshot
A different slant on this; does anyone feel they have too much audio content that the like and enjoy to listen to, to digest? I for one love to listen to all types of podcasts from the standard Meltzer output to some of the fine podcasts that a number of you on this board do on a regular basis as well as numerous others. I try and listen to between 1-2 hours or so a day. The advantage of audio over video is of course you can listen to it whilst commuting, working out / running amongst a host of activities which tends to make it more accessible to me on a daily basis than watching things does. Smack2k
Once I'm done compiling the footage-watching league, I'll do the footage-hoarding league. Will, Brick and Smack2k have all got to be up there, but who else? I'm in the mix here, I would think. Yeah, Even though I have a SHIT TON of stuff...KHawk has me beat.....truth be told.. But I will continue to gather and gather footage....

I find that I run out of audio to listen to every few days as I listen when driving to and from work, while at work, and while outside running around with my son, I have the earbud in one ear listening... I end up listening to shows repeatedly.....PTB / Good Will / Titans / Wrestling with Past / Shoots / Wrestling Culture / Big Boys / etc.... My watching has slowed considerably over the last year due to working and my son getting bigger and wanting to play a lot,,,but he is starting to show interest in the classic stuff, so I think I will finally get to start watching more and more again..... The BEST thing I did though was watch every 45+ min match I had in the last 3 months before my boy was born as I knew finding 45 straight minutes during the day to focus on the match wouldnt happen again for a while....I remember those matches VIVIDLY.... I listen to all the pods for the website plus the Observer audio minus a few (Wrestling weekly, MMA only shows, After Dark) and also the Steve Austin show along with other podcasts like Maron, Bill Simmons, and Firewall and Iceberg podcast. Don't get me wrong; I don't listen to all this weekly, just the things that peak my interest.

Matt D
Three years later and it feels like we're in a different world. Three Hour Raw, Smackdown as its own brand, NXT, CWC, The C shows (does anyone even watch them at this point?) A TNA with stuff that has surprising buzz for good reasons or bad. Two seasons of Lucha Underground with a third starting soon. THREE CMLL shows streamed live a week. An hour of Elite each week. AAA TV A whole NJPW streaming service with a lot of shows live, plus whatever US TV they have. ROH TV and whatever big shows THEY have. Fairly easy access to Mexican indies and to PR TV And what feels like a thousand indies (some of them like PWG or Evolve or Beyond whatever shooting out matches that people are giving 4* + to on an almost weekly basis). That goes without all of the WWF house shows popping up at once or the full TV shows from territories or NWAOnDemand which has ~3-4 matches a week (some of them lost classics) or Stardom and other Japanese Indies (or non Indies like AJPW) not on my radar. And we've got two DVDVR 80s sets in play. Two. Plus the 00s work being done. There's so much instantly available at our fingertips. You can't realistically follow wrestling in 2016 if you have a family and a job. Not in a way to really keep up with the conversation. I tried for a month or so last year to really watch as much of the matches with Catch Point as I could, to catch up with it and keep up with it, and while I enjoyed a lot of it, especially their matches with Chris Hero, it was just too much. If you had given me plane tickets, a hotel room, and show tickets to the SCI a few weeks ago, I would have turned them down. I didn't even want to hear about it. Something that takes up that much real estate and time investment just doesn't fit into the level of adulting I have to do combined with the bit of wrestling (likely relatively small compared to a lot of people here, but still substantial) that I am currently invested in. If I try to take on any more, it all becomes indistinguishable noise.
JKWebb
I know what you mean - Along with the family and job you mentioned - just this week (on my radar): -SCI 2016 was released Monday and there were three hours of Raw - plus a doc on FS1 about CM Punk -Tonight is "SMACKDOWN LIVE!" as Mauro would shout it -Friday night we have ROH and Evolve to choose from - I can't decide which one I want to go with... likely Evolve -Saturday is more Evolve and NXT Takeover -Sunday is 8 hours of Summerslam -Between all that, I'm working on completing some of those DVDR sets you mentioned It's pretty crazy. Plus the other stuff you mentioned that I'm not including as choices for me. I'm not complaining, because I love wrestling. But, it can be hard to keep up... soup23
2016 has been the most immersive I have been in a current year in a while and still even with that I haven't seen stuff like anything from Beyond which has some good buzz. This year has been a ton of fun and great but it has taken a toll on me in certain areas and I am already planning for myself to be much more selective in 2017 on current stuff. Memphis Mark
I load on Wrestling material during the Summer / Fall months. I generate the majority of my income in non - Winter months. Also , I am a confirmed bachelor with no kids . So finding the time to watch wrestling is easy. The only non- Wrestling shows I watch are Memphis Grizzlies basketballs games , University of Memphis basketball games , PBS travel shows and CNBC / Fox Investment programming. I will also watch reruns of the Beverly Hillbillies and the Andy Griffith Show. I gave up watching mainstream sports when I quit gambling in the 90's . I enjoy watching good pro wrestling more than today's TV programming. I watch late at night during the week and a couple of disc on weekend. If I get burnt out and take off a couple weeks. The key for me is having a lot of variety to watch. In my case , 70's and 80's wrestling better than almost anything on TV. I loved wrestling since I went to Ellis Auditorium in 1970 to watch Dr. Ken Ramey's Interns battle Jerry Jarrett and Tojo Yamamoto . The undercard featured Jackie Fargo , Herb Welch , Johnny Walker , Johnny Long , Tinker Todd , Frank Hester , The Alaskans , The Samoans ( Tio & Tapu ), George Strickland and Suni War Cloud. All 2 out 3 fall matches. Who would not have been hooked for life ?
AstroBoy
I'm watching more wrestling than ever this year and it hasn't quite overwhelmed me yet, probably due to a few factors. I'm still riding high from diving deep into the GWE project and trying to still fill gaps, check out different styles and eras, etc. The release of the Puerto Rico and Portland sets landed at a perfect time to give me a longer form project to invest in while keeping current with modern stuff. I have also lucked out in that my girlfriend really took an interest when she found out I liked wrestling and has been watching a ton with me. Add that to us going to our first live shows together over the summer and it's been nice to have wrestling time overlap with personal time with no real detriment. Basically I keep up with EVOLVE, random indies, WWE and NXT stuff, the CWC as it's happening now, pimped lucha and puro stuff. And when I want to sink in deeper, I just watch the 80's sets. So yeah, lucky to have some free time and not much fatigue right now. Though I will say watching more wrestling than ever has led me to neglect other hobbies so I'm sure that will straighten out over time. More than anything though I just feel lucky to have all this footage so readily available. It's fun to seek out as much as possible.
