JerryvonKramer Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 I just noticed that Duggan isn't on the list...he had some classics in Mid-South against all kinds of guys Are we going to nominate anyone who ever had a half decent match? Duggan made those DiBiase matches great don't hate him. Hey, I'm not hating on him but where does this end? Let's nominate Paul Roma and Hercules while we're at it. I'm still waiting to pull the trigger on my nominations. Quote
WingedEagle Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Yeah, this may result in "guy who had a couple or handful of very good matches" getting nominated, but hopefully it doesn't mean anyone who had a few solid nights places in a GOAT poll. Quote
Timbo Slice Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Everyone has different tastes. It's not like we're looking for a united Top 100 from everyone and we all turn in the same ballot. There's a reason people get nominated. No sense in complaining about it. Quote
JerryvonKramer Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Right that's it. Irwin R. Shyster Dory Funk Jr Tommy Rogers Bob Orton Jr Ernie Ladd (80s project threads), Titans of Wrestling The Original Sheik (see Dory thread) Abdullah the Butcher (as above) Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner Bobby Heenan Dennis Condrey Quote
El Boricua Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Bobby Heenan's an inspired nominee Parv. I like all of your selections. And I would like to see threads for (I can't paste the links to the reviews on the device I'm on at the moment but I'll do so later when I'm able to): Ron Garvin http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/13984-heavenly-bodies-jim-cornette-vs-rock-roll-express-ron-garvin-smw-tv-112192/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/17176-ron-garvin-vs-greg-valentine-wwf-royal-rumble-012190/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/18606-ron-garvin-vs-invader-i-wwc-anniversario-070691/ Adrian Adonis Pat Patterson Tom Prichard http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/12390-rock-roll-express-bob-scott-steve-armstrong-vs-heavenly-bodies-bruise-brothers-jim-cornette-smw-fire-on-the-mountain-081493-rage-in-the-cage/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/18515-jeff-jarrett-vs-tom-pritchard-uswa-dallas-sportatorium-052491-cage-match/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/15352-skip-rad-radford-tom-pritchard-1-2-3-kid-vs-marty-jannetty-hakushi-barry-horowitz-bob-holly-wwf-survivor-series-111995/ Hiroshi Tanahashi http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/21290-hiroshi-tanahashi/ Dick Slater http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/18739-dick-slater-dick-murdoch-vs-the-enforcers-wcw-main-event-090891/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/17864-jerry-lawler-vs-dick-slater-uswa-world-title-tournament-100890/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/14837-harlem-heat-vs-bunkhouse-buck-dick-slater-wcw-fall-brawl-091795/ Karl Gotch Mascarita Dorada/El Torito http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/26557-wwe-payback-live-as-it-happens/?hl=torito http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/26271-extreme-rules/?hl=torito http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/26215-hornswaggle-vs-el-torito-wwe-smackdown-041814/?hl=torito Quote

soup23 Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Ha, while I don't think any voter that did their true due diligence would vote for either, I do want all candidates that could be named in other corners of the internet to get a fair shake here. I don't want anyone to think that we overlooked those two guys or that we are just being "PWO" goofy by naming random luchadors and territory stars for this list. That being said, Angle is a guy I can perfectly enjoy in some settings but I feel I portray his weaknesses in the Edge matches pretty well that plagued most of his career. He was a guy that could have some great spurts of athleticism and charisma but not enough "glue" to hold most of the matches together. HHH is even more frustrating as their are times like in the Kane match and the Taboo Tuesday 2004 match where he is really good and he can sell a body part when motivated. Of course, we know he has some dreadful performances as I have highlighted in my reviews of the Steiner series where I think Steiner is clearly better. Quote

This is pretty much my thinking with regard to the nomination process. For this project's credibility, any and all prominent names that meet the nomination requirements should be given the due process of consideration even if they would be a tough sell to make anyone's final list. And to back up that thought... Bruiser Brody http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/18167-bruiser-brody/ I'll get to adding the missing references in my previous post Grimmas. Quote
El Boricua Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Karl Gotch Mascarita Dorada/El Torito References for these two. I've added the El Torito references in the original post, but it looks like I've conflated some Gotch reviews I've read elsewhere with this board. My apologies for that, it looks like Gotch will have to be held off as a nominee. in the case of Adonis he has the reviews on the 80's sets but I can't find the specific reviews at this moment. Patterson has quite a few scattered about (including Titans of Wrestling), but I can't find them at the moment. I'll see if I can add them later today. Quote

JerryvonKramer Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 I recall some very lively debate around the time we were calling Patterson MVP for 1979, but can't for the life of me find it. Quote
