MoS
I posted in the Meltzer thread about so many fans saying that Debra deserved getting beaten by Austin, and that Austin should have "walked her dry" after "stomping a mudhole in her". Now, according to news reports, a 20-year old fan killed his girlfriend's 18-month baby by doing the Last ride on him, and according to him, "missing the bed". A lot of us play-act and have done so since we were kids, but I do not think an 19-month old has the ability to give informed consent to getting powerbombed. Not to mention, it would have taken extraordinary negligence to miss the bed while performing a powerbomb. What other incidents are there where a few fans of our favourite sport embarrass the sport they profess to love? I want to say claiming that Benoit is innocent, but that might be more of innocent desperation and not despicable behaviour?

DMJ
The "Benoit is innocent" stuff is conspiracy malarkey. I find that kind of willful ignorance, in this specifc case, to be harmless. Like people who believe what they read in Weekly World News. Lionel Tate immediately came to mind. And, sadly, also myself. Drunkenly (I was 18, but able to secure some beers thanks to a fake ID), I said some pretty nasty things while heckling a female valet at a Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling show (or maybe it was a Pro Wrestling Ohio show) back in 2005 or 06'. I remember loudly, enough for the audience (where children were) calling the valet a "slut" and telling her to suck my genitalia. It was crass and embarassing, so much so that one of the guys in the ring "broke," turned to my direction, stared me in the eyes and said, "C'mon, dude!" I've since learned to hold my Miller Light better and not spout off every disgustingly sexist thing that might pop into my head in the heat of inebriation and wanting to "rag on the heels." Also, just so people are aware, I wasn't the only most-likely-sexually-frustrated asshole saying dirty things - Cleveland indies can be brutal with hecklers, much worse then than now (and even worse in the late 90s) - but it still makes my skin crawl thinking about what I said and how unnecessary and "stereotypical wrestling moron" it was. sek69
"She's a whore" chants in ECW were always cringeworthy. Also, Mike Lano photographing Louie Spicolli's corpse Jesus Christ, I never heard about that one. Not sure if that's worse than GLF trying to turn Candido's funeral into a meet and greet. Mad Dog
Green Lantern Fan booing that guy doing a tribute to his dead friend at a Chikara show. The Chris Candido funeral was also pretty disgusting.

MoS
A lot of ECW fans were quite terrible. I don't care if it was a joke; bringing a sign that said "Cane Dewey" was pretty disgusting. Dewey was a toddler who probably did not even know what his father's profession was is stupid. Foley claims he was outraged, but my impression of him and his "Aw shucks, I am such a nice guy!" gimmick has gone down so low, that I think he was actually delighted, because he knew there could come a time when it would make for good promo material. I realise that is harsh, and I can also be accused of being on a high horse, but I honestly believe it.
sek69
GLF dominating this thread warms my heart I go back and forth in my mind wondering if he's on the spectrum or not. I know it's cliche to call people autistic on the internet, but in this case you kind of hope he is because the alternative is that he's a complete psychopath. MoS
Saying "what" during the national anthem always makes me cringe This kind of cultural differences always interests me. Here in India, this behaviour would be unacceptable beyond the level of "douchebag wrestling fans trying to be the centre of attention". Such behaviour is illegal here and would be punishable by law. I am opposed to it and I think that a law like this is jingoistic, hypersensitive ridiculous and a clear violation of freedom of speech, but I am in a miniscule minority; most people here would fully support punishment for such behaviour. tim
I might be remembering wrong but wasn't Nigel's heel turn in 2007 precipitated by fans booing him for not working while seriously injured -- short months after Benoit killed him family which was blamed largely on the toll his body and mind suffered working a hard style with accumulated injuries? fakeplastictrees
This probably isn't at the top of any real list (as seriously we are talking about the sleazy world of pro wrestling), but during the Warrior/Goldust match at IYH 96, Goldust goes to the outside for some reason and the entire arena begins chanting the "F" word while Warrior 'conducts' the crowd. The recent "You Suck [insert wrestler Diva is dating/engaged to/married to ] !" Was silly and immature. I am not one of these DIVAS = SERIOUZZ WRESTLING~! guys, but Fucking Krishna! Really!? To go with the homophobia...The crowd's reaction during the Billing And Chuck wedding. From the "Just Say No" chants, the constant boos, and finally one of the biggest pops of the night when Billy announced him and Chuck are not actually gay. DMJ
Here's another story from my past, this would be around 97'-99', I was between 13-15. My middle school/high school friends and I are big wrestling fans, it is the Attitude Era, and we think we discovered the lost city of Atlantis when we came upon Lords of Pain and start reading news and rumors (and Tito's Phat Daily Column). We learn that RAW is coming to Cleveland and we are pumped! We also learn, via the internet, that Road Dogg will be making his return to WWE after a brief stint in rehab on that night. And so I bring a sign that reads "Road Dogg Fears Sobriety" (in the tradition of the "Sabu Fears Taz" and "_____ Fears ____" signage that was popular at the time). We also happen to be sitting along the TV side of the entrance ramp. Road Dogg comes out to a huge response, goes into his "Oh You Didn't Know?" speech and, very audibly, on TV, says "What's that sign say?," a clear reference to my sign, which me and my idiot tweenage friends were holding. Dick move by me if he really was just coming out of rehab. My bad, Road Dogg! If you don't believe me, this is documented. I'm not sure what RAW it is, but it would be sometime between 97' and 99', at Cleveland's Gund Arena (now Quicken Loans). There were at least 3-4 that happened during that time, but I do know it was *not* the one pre-WM14 and it was *not* the one the night after KOTR 98'. You can clearly see me and my buddy absolutely lose it as Road Dogg walks by and references our sign (we're the pimple-faced losers marking out along the entrance ramp). People popping for the Dudleys putting women through tables (while THEY were supposed to be heels) kinda summarize everything I hated about the Attitude era. It depends on the presentation, I would say. If women in WWE were considered and portrayed as normal human beings; if they were shown to be people with personalities, with quirks, with strengths and weaknesses, with good traits and bad traits; if they were depicted as talented athletes with normal human characteristics; and the Dudleys were shown to be complete psychopaths who did not care whom they put through tables, and liberally attacked both men and women, then I guess the audience would be justified in cheering them as cool heels who did not give a fuck, similar to how Austin started getting cheered. However, WWE has never been good at considering women anything above mere playthings, and Russo was so shockingly offensive in his portrayal of women that he makes Vince McMahon appear like a radical feminist. Women in WWE were and are portrayed as sex objects; their utility is measured in the size of their breasts; and their worth is limited to how Vince McMahon perceives their physical attractiveness. They are essentialised to their bodies, and any personality traits that make you empathise with someone and get attracted to them beyond a superficial level are nonexistent. So, in this regard, the Dudleys putting women and solely women through tables was definitely misogynistic; the only way these women were annoying them was, as James Potter said about Severus Snape, through existing. To keep this on topic, it also reflects the misogyny of so many fans of the Attitude Era, and why catering to them can be problematic. It makes you look utterly lowbrow. MoS
Also, El-P, haha, the French anthem is also sort of annoying, even through a musical lens - no offense intended. I have a friend who knows 37 languages, and French is one of them, and he often sings a multitude of national anthems, and the French and the American ones are two of the worst, in my opinion. (I much prefer "America the Beautiful in the case of the U.S.)

Bix
For me, at least live, nothing live tops the guy I saw incessantly chant "SHOW YOUR TITS!" at April Hunter at an indie show. I know what you're thinking, it was an ECW bullshit chant, what makes this guy stand out? Well: 1. He was the only person chanting. 2. Later, he was telling everyone within earshot that he was disappointed others didn't join in. He calmly explained that he figured that since she had posed for Playboy, if enough fans chanted "SHOW YOUR TITS," she would comply. Meanwhile... Is the thing with autograph seekers buying wheelchairs to cut in line limited to wrestling or something that happens with everyone in that world? grapplin' apple
I went to an AWA house show in 1988 in Iowa where a bunch of guys yelled racist epithets at Wahoo McDaniel. It was pretty nice to see him go out of the ring, grab one by his goatee, and chop him. At Great American Bash 1997 in Iowa, there were skinheads near the front row yelling that they had Sonny Ono's Mom in their car's trunk. For me, that takes the cake as far as live events go.
