Grimmas Posted May 27, 2015 Author Report Posted May 27, 2015 Worst candidate yet? He is highly charismatic and can be real fun to watch. My favourite match would be against Sabu at House Party '98, but I'd only go 4 stars on that.
soup23 Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Don't see this one at all. Essentially the NAO of ECW with a longer stretch run. The angles and entrance is debatable on the entertainment and overness, the matches are not and I can honestly say I have probably been more impressed with more Ultimate Warrior in ring performances than Sandman.
Matt D Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 A better wrestler when drunk than RVD when high. Neither of them are as good as Mad Dog Vachon with a prosthetic leg, however.
GSR Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 I remember thinking his matches with Cactus from 1995 held up when I revisited that year of ECW, and there was the Spring Stampede match in WCW that he had against Bigelow but that'd be about it.
Dylan Waco Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Worst candidate yet? He is highly charismatic and can be real fun to watch. My favourite match would be against Sabu at House Party '98, but I'd only go 4 stars on that. At work now, but I bet I could find 25 nominees who I think are clearly worse.
El-P Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 A better wrestler when drunk than RVD when high Well said. I like the Sandman a lot. The NOA comparison is totally off for most of his, well, peak. Yes, at the end of ECW, Sandman was basically only a prolongued intro, but it was not the case in 95/97. Tons of worse people have been nominated.

I forgot about Davey Richards and some others that are nominated. 25 might be a stretch, but there is an amount for sure.
goodhelmet Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Garbage candidate. No chance of even being considered for the ballot.
North South Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 I never saw any real talent in The Sandman as a wrestler or at really anything else for that matter. But with the likes of other ECW performers such as Tommy Dreamer and New Jack getting nominated, i decided why not him? From what i've saw, his best years as a worker are 1995 and his 1999 WCW run as Hak. The two ECW matches of his that i like would be the '95 ladder match with Mikey Whipwreck and the '98 PPV match with Sabu. I actually don't think his WCW '99 matches with Kendell Windham (Nitro - 4/5/99) and Bam Bam Bigelow (Spring Stampede - 4/11/99) themselves were any bad. Wouldn't be anywhere near my list, but one person did vote for him a vote in the 2006 poll. Take that for what you will.
Dylan Waco Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 I actually liked Sandman and thought he was an underrated worker in a lot of ways. He would make my personal top five hundred. So there is that.
Timbo Slice Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Actually a pretty compelling character and probably one of Heyman's Top 5 mirages as far as credible guys who were shit in the ring. I did like that when he got in shape for WWECW that he still had a boiler on him. No chance for this list, though.
shoe Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Garbage candidate. No chance of even being considered for the ballot. Seconded
JerryvonKramer Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 25 really? Was just looking and got to "Jacque Rogeau" and still haven't found one. Joe Malenko maybe. Who nominated Sandman?
TravJ1979 Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Garbage candidate. No chance of even being considered for the ballot. I agree. The nominations are getting ridiculous.
highflyflow Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 Anyone considering Sandman this time around? I'm not nearly familiar enough with ECW to make a case for him, but I do enjoy Sandman and think he's probably better than he was given credit for in this thread.
HeadCheese Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 I am not considering him but, he is a fun wrestler. His match with Goldberg at WCW Spring Break 1999 is super cool, the One Night Stand 2005 entrance is one of the best entrances ever.
