strobogo
Looks like Raw weekly to Netflix everywhere, US content stays on Peacock, internationally everything also moves to Netflix.

Coffey
Is RAW still going to be live? I didn't know Netflix had live shows. Are there still going to be commercials? I pay for Netflix for commercial free viewing. Is RAW going to go back to 2-hours? Since it will be on Netflix, I assume the advertising is different & they don't have to appease USA anymore, what does this mean for the maturity level of the content? So many questions & we just get a Twitter post from Netflix. Guess I'm waiting for an article with the details. Huge news though. Nick Khan has to be one of the biggest WWE hires ever, right? Who knows what the media landscape will be in 5 years. Does that mean AEW will try to sell themselves to Amazon Prime or something ? This certainly is super intriguing in term of the evolution of the business, on many aspects.
Jmare007
Huge move. I guess initially the plan will be for Smackdown to sell tickets for U.S shows and Netflix subscriptions. While Netflix just gives them a shitload of money and helps them become a juggernaut internationally. I guess they are gonna start getting even more offers from overseas to do big stadium shows and possibly long tours without much expenses for WWE? MoS
Who would have thought in 1997-99, when Shawn and Hunter were actively trying to bury Rock, or in 2002, when HHH seemed to have the keys of the kingdom, that Rock would end up as their boss, almost 3 decades later
KawadaSmile
Netflix has done live shows before. The Brazilian version of the Love is Blind Special was one of them. It ran smoothly. As for ads, maybe they'll have ad placements instead of ad breaks. Â Nick Khan is absolutely their biggest hire outside of the ring. No one comes even close. Timbo Slice
WWE does all their own production so Netflix isn’t needing to do much of anything here. Strictly for rights and maybe some tech input, if any.  And that also being announced with Rocky joining the board on the same day is a funny flex.

El-P
Ok, so 5 years. Netflix is basically Cancelmania. 20 years ? That's Bret Hart in 96 contract ludicrous right there. Things go way too fucking fast to be engaged for 20 years anywhere.

If it's commercial free that'd be great for the matches since they'd no longer need to be structured around commercial breaks. Also no more of Dunn's crappy camera cuts. 2025 RAW is gonna be hype. Timbo Slice
Okada seems WWE bound simply because of how he’s exiting NJPW, but then folks talk themselves into him being with AEW because of the history and how Ospreay is exiting in a similar way. Meltz is also reporting how he thought AEW was going to offer more money, but Okada is probably using them like Ohtani used non-Dodger teams. Go get the biggest possible offer, ask WWE to match, WWE matches, and that’s the ballgame. And signing with Netflix? Okada can ask for a lot more.

I was thinking more than the other way around. Things don't stay hot forever. Usually it's a matter of a few years. Cyclical and all. 3 years ago, WWE was not hot, as the Hulkster would have said. They better be hot in 2030, because if they aren't, Netflix is gonna cancel their ass like nobody's business. And then, yeah, what you said too.

It's a smart choice because by 2030 the media landscape will probably be changing again. We've been saying media rights can't keep going up for the past 7 years I feel like so who knows if by 2030 the bubble has finally burst or if Netflix gets a "cheap" deal out of opting in for another 5 years. And if streaming goes to shit, then dropping WWE wont hurt them as much.

Seriously though, Mauro calling Smackdown in general, and Okada in particular, is the stuff wrestling dreams are made of. I still don't understand how Tony never offered Mauro the bag to call Collision in the brief time that show actually mattered.  Update: Just saw this on Facebook. I know you love him, but you have to admit that there is a very vocal subset of fans who dislike him with an equal amount of passion. I can tell you that if he showed up as the announcer on Collision I would not watch it anymore. I literally can’t stand the sound of his voice and I am hardly the only person who feels that way. Tony Khan caters to the hardcore fan, and he understands that there is a significant number of hardcore fans who just don’t like Mauro Ranallo. "Hardcore" fans and a "subset" of fans are the two groups I would worry the least about pleasing if I'm Tony Khan. For every Thread Killer who will kill the thread and stop watching, there are a dozen more who aren't going anywhere. Ever. No matter what. Mauro is the best pro wrestler commentator of his generation, has legitimate sports credentials (something that's supposedly important to AEW, depending on the hour of the day), his passionate delivery would instantly make everything in AEW feel like a much bigger deal, and his outside gigs would give AEW much-needed exposure if he promotes them (but even if he doesn't, boxing or MMA fans following him on social media for those sports would also see his AEW posts and might be curious enough to check it out). It's not happening though. TK has hired a million and one commentators since the first Dynamite, and none of them have been the pride and joy of British Columbia. That's probably for the best, honestly. With Mauro's mental health issues, the unchecked immaturity that exists in AEW probably wouldn't be good for him. Even without mental health issues, AEW's utterly infantile environment has been disastrous for several wrestlers already.
