  1. Don't forget Hogan pearl-harboring Sheik in the beginning of the match. I don't know how much of that aspect to the character was in the AWA, but it's pretty consistent through his big run.
  2. I never understood why they went for the Sports Arena (who actually played there? other than wrestling all I hear about that place are concerts, specifically for being the first show of The Wall Pink Floyd played) when they could have booked the Great Western Forum.
  3. That's not all, as Bret almost had a punch-up with Shane sometime during the weekend of that show.
  4. Jesus Christ, his wife's name is Judy? They wanted people to see Hogan before they went to bed. It's not that too far away from what SNL has always done, which the show was a replacement for. Put the high spots up front and prioritize the rest.
  5. Realistically I don't think WWE would want the TNA library. Considering that the Network is slow going on putting up much archival content as it is, I don't see what the point would be. Plus I would guess the next move by Dixie and company is to milk all they can out of merchandise.
  6. Jake wanted Pat Patterson's vacated spot in creative, and when they didn't give it to him he held him up for a release, not more money. This is almost verbatim from Jake's DVD "Pick Your Poison".
  7. I'm not totally clear on all of this, I thought Russo left. How did he kill this when he's supposedly not even employed by them anymore?
  8. I'm surprised that this is their take on all this. I remember a period where they went crazy taking down stuff on YouTube. But it makes a little sense considering there is WWE stuff still being put on Netflix Instant too.
  9. Not for nothing , but American Pie was great and South Park was and still is brilliant. You're right about the late 90's vibe in pop culture. Yeah, my comment wasn't meant to lump the first two with the latter in terms of quality, it's just that more raunchy material was cool and WWE attached itself to it for the sake of piggy-backing that vibe to beat WCW in the ratings. And it worked.
  10. It worked itself out, and he did the smart thing by playing it up from the get-go. If he never comes back, the blue trunks and the wave goodbye was a perfect send-off.
  11. The concept exists best as a "what-if". Partly because there's no competing company that can lure him away, and mostly because creatively and financially it's a bad idea. Also, and as much as people will hate to hear it, there's no going back to the Attitude Era, a time when such a heel turn was possible because that was the norm at the time of turning faces to heels. That was lightning in a bottle, a time when they could produce something that matched up with the pop culture that produced American Pie, South Park and crappy rock bands that used F-bombs in nearly every verse or chorus and still got radio play. It was playing to the lowest-common denominator, at a time when everything else was. They still do, but it just looks desperate now.
  12. The Dynamic Dudes were definitely rip-offs of The Rockers, who themselves can be seen as 2nd-generation Rock & Roll Express.
  13. In retrospect it worked but at the time and on this night I felt it was a really bad attempt to make people look away from the whole Bret debacle. WCW did it better by burying him.
  14. Jack Nicholson's IMDB bio says he's a fan but I think that could be bullshit.
  15. Would you have fixed Randy and Liz's marriage too?
  16. And Smash didn't start suddenly talk in a fake Russian accent.

  18. 32, that's right.
  19. How many episode of Legends of Wrestling are there exactly? They just put up another one and it looks like there's 36 altogether on there right now.
  20. Hogan is not the example to use here, Bob Backlund is. It's one thing to just carry the company like those two did, but Cena arguably has put more work and dedication into it. He's already made headlines for his work with the Make-A-Wish foundation. And nobody is a better spokesman for the company like he is. Making him a heel now while he's still fairly young and strong would be a mistake for those reasons. Do it when he's almost out to pasture and forgotten about when so many others will eventually pass him by like Reigns is being designed to do now.
  21. Today is JR's last official day as a WWE employee.
  22. How many matches besides the 8-man and the coal miner's glove match did Jake Roberts have in WCW?
  23. I'd ask him about the finish to his match with Orndorff at SuperBrawl '93.
  24. The WWE Network description of the first episode of The Main Event says it was the most watched wrestling program in American TV history. I'm curious, what kind of ratings did it pull that night and how did it hold up against the other networks?
