  1. I liked the tag brawl while it lasted, but there was no way it was ever going to finish. Like every other match we saw on this show. More brawling and it's all good, but I agree on overkill. Were MSC numbers down or something where they felt like they really needed to bring the fans in this week?
  2. My one quibble with that incredible brawl is the announced decision. We saw the ref get hit 3 times, all by Embry and Pritchard. But we get a no decision? Beyond that, damn that looked wild and great! Robert cuts a great promo and i continue to be impressed by him as both a promo and a brawler. The brawl after the tag match is interrupted is great but I have to ask if babyfaces in Memphis understand what "timely save" actually means. Embry is great though, using everything around the studio to beat up on Fuller.
  3. I thought this went way too far. Lawler demolishing the car was just way too much. Also, who expected that guitar to survive the show once Lawler brought it out? I'm pretty sure there are single celled organisms somewhere that called that one as soon as he started talking about it. I did like Lawler's actual marking out for being able to meet all of these people though. It seemed very genuine and a peek into the real life Jerry Lawler..
  4. At the very least nobody takes a massive shit all over the World Title while Flair is talking. Not that it has much cred left, but it's something. And it's definitely a great Flair promo. I'm dreading seeing where any of this goes though, it's just been such a massive amount of killing Flair before he even has a chance to defend himself that I don't think he can possibly overcome it.
  5. This was another awesome Foley performance with support from Abby. Foley is on a tear with this crazy/silly/what-the-fuck-is-wrong-with-him stuff.
  6. Big match for your first live TV! Ontario got two good title matches, but I'll take the King Tonga match over the rest.
  7. My guess is because World of Sport is the most easily recognizable format of British wrestling it's what things get lumped under. European wrestling as a whole is not really covered well. And in case the size of the original obscured this point, I'll repeat it. The things I mentioned are what popped into my head for projects. If you have a different project idea either that you really want to try or you think doesn't get enough attention, pitch it and see if people like it. Finally, these kids of things need the experts and as Matt D mentioned, most people here are specialists. If you are really strong in one of those places that doesn't get enough attention, would you be willing to run a few of us through it?
  8. I enjoyed the early part of the match with Cutie hitting the powerbomb and that put her in the driver's seat. Scorpion tried to counter out of stuff, but didn't have the oomph behind it after that powerbomb. Once Scorpion hits the missile dropkick it turns around and Suzuki is the one who can't make things stick. I like Suzuki's bump to the floor off of the suplex to the ropes. The moonsault off the top to the outside by Scorpion was nutty as Hell with the way Suzuki was laying. I'd argue that this middle section of the match was where things felt a little scatterbrained. Then they pulled it together for a good finishing run. I did like that they took some time to slow things down, but not a ton. Pretty good match even if it lacked in parts.
  9. I liked the torturing of Kawada's midsection early on. Ogawa being involved as heavily as he was in that mad me think he'd get some kind of payback. Kawada, in one of his few instances of showing much fire here, goes with a Jumbo sequence to get his revenge on Ogawa. Jumbo's reaction is as awesome as I expected. Misawa using his lucha-based offense on Ogawa is always a fun thing to watch. I really dug seeing the Ogawa-Kikuchi matchup heavily featured in this and how often both were in the match. I think part of the reason this isn't as strong of a match is Kawada, but I also think that knowledge of his later self is creeping in there a little bit. He's not quite there yet all the time. He's going to have lapses as he grows into it and one just happened to fall on a match that was meant to feature him vs. Jumbo. That first tiger driver was such an incredible nearfall, had me believing Taue was down.
  10. I enjoyed the Top 5, very clever. Jake was absolutely incredible and fantastic and every bit of hyperbole you can stack on top of that here. I really love how to top all of that off, Jake warns Gene that it's a bad idea to talk in a way he doesn't like. Then when Gene ignores this warning, Jake immediately lets us know that he means business. Fucking great!
  11. I liked Piper's promo on Flair a lot. He is really focused and brings up all the awful things he has done over the years. Good way to go for sure. Once Hogan is mentioned it kind of loses a little focus, then the whole Nasty Boys thing and it's back to ranting and raving for no reason Piper. But the first part of the promo before the break is grrreat!
  12. I really liked the main. The team of Morales and Backlund is a nice counter to the iconic MACW team. Bolsheviks getting a win right after their big loss is a good tactic.
  13. I would say the principals would have to figure out a matches/segments per week kind of a deal and how long they wanted it to go. Whatever the most busy person in the group could handle I imagine. And I'd say that there would be no real restriction to it. If a person had time for 2 or 3 and that many were going, why not? Part of my plan on this was that it is a very, very open process. If you can get 4 people or more on a topic, organize it and go. And if something comes up you like that you're not a part of, follow along. The idea is very much centered on making things more accessible that don't at first glance seem that way.
  14. I recently had an idea for a series of projects (not all necessarily involving me) for the board. After talking to a few people about them it seems like there might be a section of people around who would be willing to do this kind of thing, so I'm just going to put it out there. We take the areas of wrestling that may not be that popular or understood: - World of Sport - Lucha Libre - Joshi - Shootstyle - Puerto Rico - lucharesu that isn't MPro If you can think of something else to add, great. We add it to the list of projects. And have a theme to the whole project, a goal in mind. My first thought was taking lucha libre and comparing and contrasting aspects of it with American wrestling. Something to give some perspective on the nuts and bolts and how it all goes together. Also I thought more abstract concepts involving wrestling would work: - My biggest idea here is look at 1988-1992 and how some careers, namely Sting, Pillman and Luger really got killed before they could truly start. Yet both Foley and Austin came out of the same place. Take a deeper look at how each was booked during all of the regime changes and what effect it had on them in the eyes of the fans. If you can come up with more names to add to that list or different projects in the same vein, again, throw the idea out there. Get one person who is extremely well-versed in the subject matter. Have three others at least dedicated to watching a certain amount of themed matches, etc. each week. These three people can have any level of experience on the subject. Post the reactions and discussions on the board and leave it open for anyone to throw in if they like. But with the caveat that you do not attack opinions or posters, you simply disagree and state your reasons why. Honestly having somebody who is a novice or not a huge fan of the subject matter makes a lot of sense. To me these projects are usually very good for intermediate and above on that promotion/style or whatever to follow along. But it can be very difficult for somebody relatively new to, for the sake of this argument, let's say WoS or lucha to really get into it. There are parts of it so different and it can be an uphill battle trying to process them while also trying to derive enjoyment from the matches. So with this idea, you have at least one person who is on that level involved and is struggling with it. It takes away that nagging thought that you don't want to be the stupid guy disagreeing with this person who clearly knows his stuff. And it gives you an idea on what you might like once you get used to how people react to matches. If a couple of people you know you generally agree with like a match, you are probably more likely to watch it. As I said above, my first thought was lucha libre. I personally struggle with trios matches that don't involve somebody I really like. The big matches between great workers like Santo, Casas, Satanico, etc. I'm all for. So maybe get some folks together and we go through a week of trios matches, then a week of title matches, then a week of apuestas matches. Follow that up with a couple of weeks on the development of feuds and then go into deeper stuff. I've talked to CapitalT a little about somehow integrating parts of this with GME and would welcome any thoughts on that as well. I've also been in contact with Boricua on getting one started on Puerto Rico. I'm open to any idea that we can start this thing and getting it rolling with. I think it would be a good way to first, have a good way of making some of the less known wrestling styles easier to get into. And second, have good discussions and get to know one another's tastes in wrestling a little better. So if you have ideas I didn't mention or liked something I put above, by all means call it out. Like I mentioned above, I don't think experience level with a promotion/style should hold a person back on this either. So there is absolutely no need to be shy.
  15. So Eddie Gilbert is there, Owen Hart makes his return and you had that awesome 6 man tag as the main? That is a great, great show and I'm sure anyone attending went home happy. Despite Jacques losing...
  16. Capital gave me this match: Superb lucha brawl between two guys who seem to know what they are doing. My review is here. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/37907-el-satanico-vs-sangre-chicana-emll-052689/
  17. I loved how they actually pretended like they were going to wrestle at first. Then Sangre headbutts Satanico after being backed into a corner. I liked it coming from the guy in the corner, esp. when you think Satanico is going to be the one to start it. Second caida starts awesome with Satanico begging Sangre to punch him and then acting like the punch damn near knocked him out. Have I mentioned the punches they throw in this are off the charts great? And yeah, Satanico's selling is top notch. Sangre good at selling the damage, but he can't compare to Satanico. I've read several times that selling is what makes a great brawl and this match should be front and center in that conversation. I also loved how Satanico had to work to get his comeback. You think he's got it once, but Sangre comes roaring back with more great punches. Third caida sees both wanting to box it out on the outside and the ref is kind enough to not count them out. Satanico's attack on the eyes is just awesome. I really liked the pace they kept up. It wasn't super slow, but slow enough to where when they both got inside and started throwing and things sped up it felt like a high spot. The ref has about enough when Dangre won't let Satanico up in the crowd and starts talking about a countout. Once he starts counting the fans get a little restless and start throwing things as Sanger and Satanico brawl around ringside. I formed this idea that these two had a big match this match was building to that had blood involved. Because I would pay to watch that match. If this was actually supposed to be a blowoff, yeah it didn't work.
  18. I see it as an equality thing. Who am I to say that lucha and joshi, despite not really being that into them, are somehow lesser forms of pro wrestling and that the wrestlers who excel at them are somehow inferior to the people who do well at the styles I like? Even worse I could not include them at all and act like they don't exist. This is just my own criteria, not something I would apply to others. But for me I would have to treat all wrestling as "wrestling" and try to judge somebody like Santo or Breaks or Aja Kong on the same level I was judging their peers within their style. Otherwise I would be putting a very heavy bias towards the wrestling I watched into my list.
  19. I like that you went from two wild brawls into the British dudes who will stiff the fuck out of you then the Bock match. Something for everyone.
  20. I don't think that discussion ever got that far. But that is another of the more Japanese elements of the promotion.
  21. I liked this more than the Flair match as well. Tito looked really scrappy against the clearly physically dominant Undertaker in front of a hot crowd. Could just be the Tito Santana fan in me talking too. But I also thought they stuck to a pretty good structure, minus the oddity of the Undertaker trying to put Tito in a bodybag. Shine, heat, comeback is there because it works. And this crowd definitely ate it up.
  22. That Halloween Havoc logo makes me think they have the Warrior as a surprise guest....yeah, that's about how much I care about the matches I didn't already know.
  23. Really fun few minutes, and a great guitar shot again from BJT. Hell, Embry's celebration was all kinds of awesome too. But I need more out of this after so long.
  24. I enjoyed this a ton. I will note that this was included with the 10/5 USWA footage. You don't see a lot of these kinds of endings to feuds and they don't always work. But Davis and Dundee did well with it, like they did with the earlier segments leading up to it.
  25. Yeah I don't think anybody thought that Lawler and Gilbert were going to stay polite and well-mannered through that whole thing. The whole unified title spiel is old news at this point and I tend to just ignore it. Line of the segment was lawler asking, "If I put on some tights with flames on them and started calling myself "Hot Stuff would I be copying you?" Great stuff there.
