  1. Holy fast title changes Batman!
  2. I liked the York Foundation work form the apron. Did Dustin have his awesome right uppercut from day one?!? Tony saying that Zenk was a guy who could win the World Championship made me very sad. Very, very sad. Zenk's FIP work wasn't actively bad so I'll not comment too much. Finish makes me wonder if Big Josh is Rick Steiner levels of stupid as a character. Matt Borne is so wasted on this gimmick.
  3. If you want to embed the link you just paste it in and don't use the "link" feature.
  4. I thought this was the best SWS match so far. Hara may be old and immobile, but he can deliver a lariat, headbutt and punch as well as ever. And Tenryu is great at selling everything. I do agree that Tenryu gives away too much as the "ace" of SWS. I also think his match structure leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe if it looked like his opponent cared about winning the match in the closing stretches instead of just trying to beat Tenryu to death it would look better. As it is, I may have issues with the structure, but the execution was really good (save the second powerbomb) on most everything. And everything was ridiculous amounts of stiff, which I fully expected from these two.
  5. I like the big show to bring in the new format. Fantastics vs. Charland & Tonga sounds awesome.
  6. I liked Luger being condescending, he pulled it off pretty well. Steiner was way over the top as a simpleton to the point where you wonder how that guy could have gotten past tying his shoe if it didn't work the first time. Steiner going over in the ring is a nice way to set up a challenger when you truly don't have a good one in line. I would agree that Luger is starting to become Flair-lite.
  7. Really good studio match, probably one of the better actual wrestling matches with a real finish to come out of the Memphis TV studio. I liked Pritchard as the psuedo-babyface a lot. I can hope something like Embry/Lawler comes out of this even if the heat for it is all but gone.
  8. Nice to see Lawler back in good form after the last few weeks. He is still talking about BJT and Jeff Gaylord though.
  9. I think you need to get your refs some glasses.
  10. Seemed fairly random, but I guess it goes somewhere. The hug afterwards was nice. I'm curious to see if Enos and Bloom look out of place in the WWF. They seem like a more WCW style of team.
  11. I thought that leglock sequence early was just a massive waste of time. Takada only throwing a few token kicks and not bothering to try use his striking advantage more seemed off. I'll agree that things picked up, but too late to reel me back in.
  12. I don't care for shootstyle tag either. That said, they did work this in an interesting way. Tamura didn't seem to know what to do with Boss, so he tended to give him to Miyato, who had much better luck. Anjo vs. Tamura was for sure the highlight. I liked Tamura getting pissed after the two knockdowns and coming after Anjo with a vengeance. Only for Anjo to roll out of the ring, charge back in and immediately cower into the corner when it was clear Tamura was coming right back at him. At the end they used the tags well to keep a guy in who was not as close to being submitted. That being said I will echo some of the above posters. I want the Anjo vs. Tamura match, not this tag stuff.
  13. So you had an AWA and a NWA title match on one card? I'd say the fans got their money worth with those 2 alone.
  14. Benoit and Matt Borne from the Portland days would be a great, great tag team. Benoit and Matt Borne the clown would just be bizarre. Not sure how the half-clown borne fits into this. Armand getting a NWA title shot is a big deal.
  15. I actually thought Scott Norton brought something very necessary to this match. He gave the natives offense when it made sense to do so. I agree that Rick comes across as an asshole bully, but at the same time he was bleeding into Doc/Gordy territory when it came to guzzling his opponents. Neither Steiner ever got the idea that you have to give your opponent meaningful offense to create the idea they are a threat. The story of the match makes sense, what doesn't is that Steiner goes down after essentially taking zero offense before that sequence so quickly. And I will agree that Norton is not ever going to set the world on fire, but I'll take him over either Steiner brother. He's smarter than both combined as a worker.
  16. One thing about both of these guys is everything does feel big. The fact they had the crowd at all after that opening is due to that. Once Hash went through his big moves and Riki took over i expected another hash comeback, but literally all I got was lariats. Hash looks like a super tough dude despite losing, so I guess mission accomplished. But I can think of better ways of accomplishing it.
  17. I liked this match. Even with the odd babyface team of Zenk, Borne the Logger and Dustin. Dustin does a pretty good FIP. Ricky Morton continues to be a much better heel than one would ever expect. Makes you wonder if he couldn't have gone better places if this had happened let's say 5 years earlier. I really enjoyed the finish as well, seeing the heels get their come-uppance like that always puts a smile on my face.
  18. Standard fare from Hulk, which is to say I didn't care for it. I'm not thrilled at the feud overlap, but it seems like they did that with Warrior for a while too. Teddy also had some of that going on as well.
  19. It's crazy to me that this ever aired. But awesome in a purely humorous way as well.
  20. I liked this match quite a bit. It had some issues that almost took me out of it, but they kept going back to the overarching themes enough to hook me back in. Shinobu was really, really good at selling the arm injury and changing his offense as the match went on. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/21900-kengo-mashimo-madoka-vs-mens-teoh-shinobu-bjpw-052308/
  21. I'm not familiar with anyone but Teioh. Madoka is the only guy in the match with natural colored hair, but I still get the feeling he is one of the heels. Teioh and Mashimo seem to be an issue, as do Madoka and Shinobu. I liked the early exchange between Teioh and Mashimo a lot. Teioh was using veteran/technical tricks to get out of Mashimo's offense designed to overpower him and it really worked for me. madoka and Shinobu seem like pretty standard juniors of the time period on offense. Shinobu has a nice dropkick. I really liked how they went to the injured shoulder of Shinobu and he sold it pretty well up until the very, very end where he reeled off a few things that he could have sold after but didn't. For the most part he does a great job changing his offense and selling though. The not-really hot tag to Teioh was fun with Teioh again tricking his younger opponents and throwing great punches to boot. Going back to Shinobu's shoulder for a second, shorter heat was a nice touch too. I loved the Teioh stuff with the octopus hold too. The run of nearfalls was hot, but I thought they got away from the bulk of the match somewhat to do it. Finish goes back to the rest of the match, which does make me happy. I thought this was a good tag with some flaws but a lot of good work. Mashimo is good as the "big" junior and wrestles with the appropriate attitude. He also has pretty good heel mannerisms. Madoka I can take or leave because I'm pretty sure there were about 200 of him in Japan at the time. Shinobu showed me a lot with his selling. Teioh really knows how to play his role well and I dig him as a wrestler even past his prime.
  22. I liked this for the same reasons as soup. Flynn had the clear advantage at range with his kicks and longer reach. So he uses that to keep Wilkins at bay for a bit. Wilkins is able to weather the storm and get inside where he has the advantage and get some offense in on Flynn. Flynn gets tired and Wilkins has an easier time getting in. Once Flynn gets his second wind it's desperation time for Wilkins as he's been knocked down 4 times and he's just barely avoiding it. Just as you think he might find a way to get inside and make it count he eats the right combo from Flynn to put him away. It really does work from both a story standpoint and a fighting standpoint.
  23. This is all we get from a week of Memphis? Lawler is hyping a match with...oh yeah Jeff Gaylord. If Gaylord really wanted to beat Lawler he'd challenge him to a pushup contest or something. Otherwise he'd know better despite being a complete musclehead. This must have been one Hell of a waste of a Saturday morning.
  24. Not sure why you would go from Hogan talking about flair to Undertaker talking about his match with Hogan, but that's the only thing wrong with this. Really well carried off for a guy as young as 'Taker was here.
