  1. Flair is more cool and collected here than he was before the title match. Sherri has got one of her old robe she wore with Savage, and it fits like a glove visually. But I see what you mean by Sherri not really getting along Flair as a character though.
  2. Austin is already a very good promo. Great slap from Steamboat.
  3. July 1994. A historical date on WCW TV. No, not Hulk Hogan winning the belt. No. Bigger than this. The debut of what would become the most over finisher of the 90's this side of teh Stone Cold Stunner : the Diamond Cutter. Of course it didn't get a big reaction, it wasn't even named yet. Still, quite fun to see. On a side note, the more I watch DDP, the more I appreciate him. Doesn't matter if he was a personnal friend of Bischoff, this guy obviously put a ton of efforts, thoughts and work into everything he did, the way he wrestled, his character, his ring attires, and although it wasn't always very good (the infamous Scum or 2 times promos), at least you could always feel this guy cared a lot. Probably one of the biggest overachiever I can think of. He was already 38 at that point, that's pretty impressive that he had so much drive to improve. Deserved everything he got in my book.
  4. The Night of Legend TV show was good thanks to a cool little legend match between Slater/Orton and Stomper/Garvin, an insane promo from New Jack and the memorable Jericho bloodbath. Hearing the Edgar Winter Band again warmed my HB fan heart. The angle on Fire on the Mountain with neither Ricky Morton nor Sunny losing their hair came off as cheap though. Way to kill a stip, I don't care if Candido got his hair shaved. That was not the deal promised, and it feels like a cheap cop out like when The Bullet had another mask underneath when he should have unmasked.
  5. I only had seen this as a handheld before, it's obviously much better on TV. MAn. Jericho tried a dumbass flashy move in training prior to the match (shooting star press I believe), and he fucked up his arm. You can picture the reaction of Cornette. Being right handed, cutting his forehead with his left hand (not to mention it was probably his first bladejob ever) result is the biggest bladejob fuck-up this side of Wally Yamaguchi slicing Akira Hokuto's forehead. Seriously, this is 10 and a half on the Muta scale. He painted the ring, his opponents and the referee's shirt bright red. Strong work from the bodies, mediocre work from Lance (surprise surprise) and a shitty finish which I really don't care for. I never liked that kind of finish anyway, and here it was really badly done, but I guess Jericho legit had trouble standing up after losing so much blood. Still a very good match, of course, and quite memorable. Agree it made Jericho look like someone special.
  6. Hey, haven't seen JR since he was fired from WCW. Nice addition to the company. New Jack's promo is awesome again. The lines about the NAACP are jaw dropping. Holy shit.
  7. I enjoy SMW Gangstas a thousand more times than ECW Gangstas. I think the issue is that Heyman got the Gangstas to replace Public Enemy (ironically enough), and had them work like the Public Enemy. Took them down a lot. New Jack was always a terrific promo, but he was much better in *this* hell of a setting.
  8. Starck contrast between Terry and Dory Jr., as always.
  9. Yep, I loved Brother Love too. So slimmy.
  10. After leaving WCW to go on rehab, Jake Roberts no-shows SMW and fucks up a great (in promo) feud. Sad. Terry Gordy cuts a brain-dead promo like it's IWA Japan. Sad too. No, really it wasn't that bad, but it was not the old Gordy anymore at this point, and he was never much of a promo anyway. Did DWB talk about Chris Walker ? I remember this guy showing up in the WWF in 1991 or so, looked like a Warrior clone.
  11. So, hip-hop in wrestling had been represented by the pathetic PN News, the equally pathetic M.O.M. tag team, and the better but still white-boys parody of PJ13. And there Jim Cornette, in his 80's looking promotion gets more relevant than anyone else by intriducing the Gangstas. I must say it's kinda surreal to see New Jack work a regular match (I've already seen Mustapha as a jobber on WCW tv). Great intro. And then the infamous promo. I knew about it coming in, but still, jaw drops. Holy shit. I barely could watch anything New Jack related in ECW because he quickly turned into a complete self-parody, but I have a feeling I'm gonna really enjoy theme in this very, very particular setting.
  12. Agreed it took too long before he made his first champs, and the tournaments weren't very well booked. Lee was made to look weak, but he was never any good as a babyface champ anyway, he only gets fun when he turns heel. With Night of the Legends approaching, SMW becomes a bit better than in the previous weeks. Tons of awesome promos from Cornette and Armstrong, the Bodies showing up, Candido winning the TV belt again, no more Kendo, no more Well Dunn, tons of cool Night of the Legend updates. And the infamous debut of the Gangstas. So, I'll finally get to see if New Jack could indeed be considered better then HHH or not.
  13. The Seekers are just entertainly bad at this point, although Lance would never get much better or charismatic on the stick. Jericho looks indeed naked and it's disturbing. This promo looks to be shot in some trailer's kitchen. The video being shot by a fan filming her kids getting an autograph with Mark Curtis is such a nice touch when you think about those upcoming years of "invisible camera". Cornette cuts an promo, and I'm glad the Bodies are back, as SMW suffered a lot from their absence.
  14. Excellent segment. This is how you promote a main event, get over the stips and a mystery partner. Great promos by Cornette, Armstrong, Wright. The Starrcade footage is still brutal to watch, worst catch ever by Bubba.
  15. They couldn't think of something better than cutting a few locks ? Cornette's booking is really getting lazy.
  16. Between ECW, WCW and SMW, Terry Funk is on fire.
  17. The weekly great Jake promo. I also kinda dig the shaved head look. Taking shots at Grizzly Smith never gets old.
  18. Goofy angle, but Tammy was excellent selling it.
  19. I don't care about the Armstrong feud anymore, but Terry is killing me with his insults. Between these and the ones about the Rhodes in WCW, he sure was shitting all over the old-school wrestling families, which is great.
  20. Promo wise, this is hands down the best feud of the year. Caudle looks genuinely disgusted and outraged when Jake takes about the Devil. Ah, those good ol' Bible Belt's announcers. The fake Kendo was too goofy for me though after those ultra-serious and evil promos.
  21. Thrillseekers vs Well Dunn in a "penalty box" match. Seriously Cornette. WAY too much gimmick matches and stipulations, all the time. Russo's "on-the-pole" fixation is actually not that far. Ok, that's harsch, but Cornette's booking, despite its strong points (making sense), relies on stuff like this way too much to keep things fresh and interesting. On the other hand, Bambi-in-the-box was goofy but pretty fun thanks to the way Tammy sold it. SMW is all about Tammy and her team at this point, as nothing else of interest happens. Yeah, Jake & DWB cut great promos on each others, but the feud doesn't deliver at all in the ring. Bruiser Bedlam, Well Dunn, Kendo the samurai are shit. And I'm really getting tired of Cornette vs Arsmtrong, this feud has overstayed its welcome by a few months now.
  22. Tammy said multiple times that she loved the Phineas Godwinn angle (which is indeed one of her best promo ever), and getting slopped as a receit. I guess she has a thing for getting slimy stuff all over her...
  23. Two great pormos indeed, but this feud really doesn't deliver at all in the ring, so it only work has isolated work-of-art promos instead of buidling matches that I actually want to watch.
  24. Gotta love the self-defense line. Good promo from Tammy.
  25. Yes, but so what after all ? She was dumped in the most humiliating way for no reason. I also remember Ross complaining about the way Terri was dressing, because "she was a mother". Wait, what ? Wasn't Sable a mother too ? Oh man, this whole AFKAG was beyond words. I forgot about the vasectomy ! This was even worse than I remembered it to be ! Which leads me to answer to this : Actually I do. I know, it's been nearly 15 years, and I never rewatched any of this stuff except maybe the two PPV matches in the mid 00's. Yeah, I know, I know... Probably because I always was a huge fan of Goldust & Terri, and although I wasn't crazy about the Val character, I enjoyed his work. So the nonsensical booking of this feud really made a terrible impression on me.
