Re: Arn and Eaton in ECW:

Finally Arn Anderson came in and cleaned house, to set up a 5/14 show with Sabu & Eaton vs. Funk & Anderson. The story behind this is WCW wanted to work with ECW in the Northeast to aid in promoting Slamboree in Philadelphia, plus as a revenge against the WWF for aiding SMW for cards in Marietta, GA. Gary Juster, who has become Bischoff's right-hand man in many aspects, offered Gordon any wrestler and in return proposed a deal which included WCW getting four weeks of one ad per show for Slamboree on the ECW show, and an interview with Funk plugging his match with Tully Blanchard at Slamboree on the show. WCW offered to put some ECW wrestlers on its TBS shows for a few weeks to build up an ECW feud, but that proposal was turned down. Dangerously, who still has a lot of bad blood with the WCW hierarchy, in particular Bill Shaw and Bob Dhue because of how his dismissal and post-dismissal legal action was handled, initially didn't want to make the deal, but asked for Steve Austin and Brian Pillman first, with Pillman to be Sabu's mystery opponent on the show. WCW turned down the request not wanting either to be injured for Spring Stampede the next day, but did send Anderson and Eaton to the show to do an angle and several weeks worth of interviews leading to the 5/14 show. Gordon is also interested in booking Ric Flair and/or Cactus Jack for future dates, although apparently nobody else has even been asked about.

Lawler/Memphis show:

A few weeks ago, PWInsider.com noted that there was a big Memphis Wrestling reunion style show being presented on at the Resorts Casino in Tunica, MS, the same Casino that now houses the Jerry Lawler Museum. Originally, the main event was to be Lawler vs. Austin Idol in Idol's first match in many, many years. Idol is off the show, for reasons not yet exactly clear, as over the weekend, it was announced that Lawler would instead face Jeff Jarrett, who would be managed by Karen Jarrett, in the main event. I can't remember the last time these two would have had a singles match, but we are talking at least 13-15 years. Brian Christopher is putting the show together, which also features Jimmy Valiant, Rikishi, Doug Gilbert, Koko B. Ware, The Spellbinder, Bill Dundee, The Rock N' Roll Express, Reggie B. Fine and more. It's quite the Memphis reunion.

My first reaction to that is that there's no way it's been that long since the last Lawler/Jarrett match, but then when I thought about it, realized it's been about 14 years since Jarrett was in WWE (and even then, it's not like Lawler was wrestling very frequently there) and Jarrett's relative lack of involvement with all of the modern-day Memphis promotions, I realized it's probably been more like 16-17 years since they wrestled. Hope this winds up making the internet somehow.

What was Paul's big hard-on with WCW about?

Is anyone else watching TCW on Pursuit Channel? Its pretty good. It's got a nice Southern feel, and the production values are pretty great. Vordell Walker is there, and I just saw a backstage bit with Matt Hardy and Trevor Murdoch.

I watch it every week online. Production is really great for an indie, but aside from Vordell they don't really use any guys I like anymore.

Heyman was massively fucked over during the Watts era. He'd been signed to a pretty lucrative contract, more than a lot of the wrestlers were making, and when Watts came in he was basically looking for any angle possible to break what he thought were bad contracts. He tried to talk Heyman into signing for less money, and Heyman was like, "fuck you, this is a guaranteed contract" and then Watts started burying him. Broke up the Dangerous Alliance, took him off TV for a while, took him off of commentary. Eventually WCW claimed he had lied on his expense reports as a way to break their deal.....Heyman swears up and down he didn't ever do that and it was just WCW railroading him.....I think it's plausible that Heyman did that.....but they were totally just railroading him and looking for any excuse to make him go away. He sued them after that and IIRC got a decent settlement, probably whatever was left on his guaranteed contract

In the Brian Christopher shoot, RF asks him about his brother cutting shoot promos in ECW, and Brian didn't know anything about it. Does anyone here have any idea what he's talking about. The only time I can ever recall seeing Kevin Christian, was during the whole Rich/Gilbert funeral angle on Power Pro, that led to the famous Doug Gilbert promo.

I'm sitting here watching Brick's WWF 1979-83 set, and holy shit. If you want to see just how freaky strong Backlund was find him vs. Patterson from 07-30-79. His bodyslams on Pat are insane. He scoops him up, carries him around, and then fucking tosses Patterson like a sack of potatoes. It's wild.

I remember somewhere reading about Backlund picking Hogan up over his head in a match they had with Hogan's dad in the crowd, who couldn't believe it. I wish that was on tape somewhere.
