I will say that Dave seems to think Bryan being pushed in a semi-main spot at Extreme Rules is an indicator that WWE sees him as a Chris Benoit-like champ. I don't agree with that takeaway at all. Bryan is more over than Benoit was at any point in his career, to a point where I feel like his match will usually be perceived as the main event by most fans, even if it's not in that spot. I wish they had something better for him than another Kane match, but I also don't think it's the end of the world.

Bryan is also the centerpiece of Extreme Rules promotion and the "There's no WWE without you" campaign, and they did too much to put him over to just say he's getting his moment but they aren't going to build around him.

He's also sort of proven at this point that whether WWE wants to or not, they pretty much have to push him strong because if they don't, fans will wreck whatever other plans they have.

That's Dave being Dave. He's been trying to set expectations as low as possible when it comes to D-Bry for the longest.

He was downplaying Punk's status in the company when he got his big title reign too. But only when Bryan was getting his main event run last year, Meltzer started talking about Punk's status in the company (since 2011) as a big deal.

There are superficial similarities between Bryan and Benoit, but there are some fundamental differences. There wasn't a groundswell of fan support that forced WWE to put Benoit in the main event. He was given the belt because HHH had run through everyone on Raw and they needed someone to keep the belt warm until Orton and Batista were ready.

The funny thing is that Punk's status in the company really WASN'T a big deal, or at least not in the sense it could have and should have been.

On Bryan as a Benoit type, I don't think the WWE sees him that way, but I also think the way his time as champ has been booked so far has been less than ideal.

You mean his whole run in the main event (since Summerslam last year) or this last couple of weeks. I mean, we can't judge what they've done with him since Mania yet, it's only been 1 show.

It's weird seeing Batista work random matches on Smackdown. When he first came back it looked like he'd be a special attraction and get a title run. Now they're just keeping him busy with Orton where no one can complain. Maybe the Evolution reunion will revitalize him for a face turn later. This run has definitely resembled Jericho's comebacks more than a Rock/Brock scenario.

He's full-time, and that was reported when it first came out that he was coming back. That's why he was on the house shows right away, too.

I think Bryan's wedding/honeymoon was the worst possible timing as well. I hope it doesn't take away from his momentum but you never know.

We're talking one week away for a guy who's been incredibly over for more than a year. I hope people aren't that fickle.

Normally it wouldn't be a big deal and I think he will be big next week anyway but with the ADD society we are in these days....out of sight out of mind has become bigger than ever

copy of the last night's RAW script has leaked online. The Stephanie/Kane segment ended up being totally different when aired. In the script Steph is the one who glares at the mask and enourages Kane to put it on. The segment was written by "Kevin M" and produced by "Phil" and "Tom" (Dr.?)

also AJ is listed under the "miscellaneous/injured" category with Punk which I guess means last week's job might have been a way to write her off (or she's legit injured/on hiatus)

If he didn't get over by accident and the long-term planning was more clear, I suspect he and Brie would have married when he was out for two weeks selling injuries before Mania.

adds more fuel to the fire that the whole thing wasn't the plan from the start. Don't know why he would schedule the wedding for the Friday after Mania if he knew he was getting such a huge title push

back to the script

man they actually write stage directions in the promos. For instance Lana is specifically told to smile before cutting her promo.

the "how to write a promo" checklist is something I probably learned in a creative writing class when I was a freshman in college. Just basic stuff that even if you weren't in show business you should at least be aware of (except the camera stuff I guess)

can't say "belt" or "feud" in a promo and in one I've never heard before you're not allowed to mentioned the city you're in (like to hear Vince's rational for this one)

write dialogue where the performers step on each others lines to make it seem more real? When has this ever been used????

I can remember years ago someone who worked in show business saw a WWE script online and remarked how amateurish it looked compared to normal Hollywood standards. I don't think anything has really changed

From the looks of Smackdown, Vordell Walker got a try out in the dark match (to which the spoiler recapper called him Cordell Walker) and from what I've seen of him on the indies, recommended in Dylan's posts on here, he'd be a really smart pick-up.

Unless there's a dude called Cordell Walker who has completely passed me by.

Are they giving him a Texas Ranger gimmick?

On the Bryan Network special, Brie (I think) mentioned it was because post-Mania is the only period they have "time off."
